The Presets are back!

Here on electronic rumors, like most reputable web music publication, don’t use teasers. We don’t use clips, we don’t use trailers and we don’t use excerpts. For obvious reasons. This is a pretty hard and fast rule, however there is probably about four artists in the world who could make us break that rule. The Presets are one of them. We love The Presets, it cannot be understated how much we love The Presets, the perfect combination of Pop, Electro-House and ElectroPunk and one of the best live bands in electronic music. For them, we break the rules.

So imagine our excitement when a cryptic email landed in the electronic rumors Inbox with nothing but a URL, youthintrouble.com and some flashing .gifs. The website loops a YouTube video that the Electro duo posted to their Facebook page mentioning they were working on album three. Get you ears around the pumping  electronic madness, all 40 seconds of it!

More details should be coming at the end of the month. Exciting times! Check out youthintrouble.com and keep an eye on the YouthInTrouble twitter account.

Touch Tone reMixed by Starcadian

touch-tone

I must be so predictable, hehe. Touch Tone dropped me an email introducing me to Brooklyn producer Starcadian who has just reMixed his new single ‘Home away From Home’, he said he thought Starcadian was right up my street, both musically and aesthetically, Sweet Raptor Jesus was he ever right.

I don’t want to to talk too much about Starcadian specifically right now, I’ve already decided he gets an article to himself later in the week, but let’s just easy you into the Starcadian groove with the aforementioned reMix.His reMix of ‘Home Away From Home’ is pretty much a melting pot of everything we think is awesome. It is, at it’s core, SynthWave, epic retro soundtrack stuff, but with more of a gritty vibe, a more (dare I say it, Brooklyn?) Lo-Fi productions style that accentuates the vintage sound and give the music warmth. It’s also got a bit more Funk than your average SynthWave with a dirty Moog tone to it. The end result is a danceable, dreamy electronic space-Disco odyssey. So, to recap; SynthWave, Lo-Fi grit, Moog Funk plus Touch Tone’s amazing, anthemic, song. I never stood a chance.

Touch Tone’s ‘Home Away From Home’ is out now on Binary. We’ll be featuring more from Starcadian later in the week.

Aaron Alexis’s ‘This Fire’

aaron-alexis

Brooklyn based ElectroChillPop merchant Aaron Alexis has dropped a brand new track, it’s a bit of a departure from the Aaron Alexis we all know and love. ‘This Fire’ is a collaboration with Drew from She’s The Queen and sees Aaron dipping his toes in the waters of something altogether more Poppy.

You know that this collaboration is going to be pretty amazing before even hitting play. It seems pretty redundant at this point to go on about how much we like Aaron’s songs and how much of a production genius Drew is, that what the search box to your right is for. So now that we’ve establish that two of New Yorks most talented are coming together for this track, what dos it hold? Well, it’s insanely catchy for one thing, catchy in a Kylie way, the bouncy SynthPop bassline and Aaron’s infectious vocal hook in the chorus have a lot of classic British Pop in their DNA. Admittedly, ‘This fire’ has a slight streak of darkness that I don’t think would suit Kylie, but Aaron’s husky drawl suits it perfectly. While this is going on Drew takes up channelling bits of Pet Shop Boys and New Order through his crystal clear production. The prefect track for a sunny day.

CHEW LiPS & Lieke

Chew Lips on Myrtle court

Here’s the first reMix of CHEW LiPS awesome ‘comeback’ single ‘Do You Chew?’ that we are really feeling. It comes from new Polish producer Lieke, who get’s all proggy on out asses.

His mix of ‘Do You Chew?’ is a deep House groove with ElectroPop sensibilities. Gone is the original’s raw energy and choppy beats to be replaced with a slick, classy groove. This gentle dance track, rather than neutering the original, merely changes it into something new. The sense of danger and chaos has been excised, this track isn’t about exciting Indie dancefloors, this is about smooth sunrise moments. Incorporating elements of ‘90’s House, Euphoric Trance and a whole lot of Prog, Lieke isn’t going to slay any dancefloors with this mix, but he will soundtrack quite a few more chilled moments. Job done.

Mirror Kisses

Mirror Kisses

American SynthPop duo Mirror Kisses stopped by the electronic rumors Inbox over the weekend to drop off their latest tune. This duo hail from Virginia and produce some pretty authentic sounding ‘80’s tracks and are currently previewing tunes from their forthcoming ‘Bad Dreams’ album.

Their latest track to get your sonic juices flowing is ‘Proud’, three minutes of sumptuous epic SynthPop. Catchy, with a melancholic edge the track mixes up a driving beat and sweet melodies with moody vocals and ominous chords to create a sound that could easily fit in the current, post-HURTS, wave of *ahem* Dark Pop (Sweet Raptor Jesus, I hate that term). It a rousing track that pushes it’s emotion to the forefront and manages to feel nostalgic without feeling like a pastiche. ‘Takeover’ is another track from their new LP,  it’s more of an upbeat number with an optimistic groove to it and instrumentation that leans toward classic ‘80’s movie soundtracks.  These two tracks hint at a album that’ll deliver a collection that is both rich in synthesizer warmth and cold as ice. Mirror Kisses are definitely an duo that we’ll be keeping an eye on in the coming months.

The Penelopes reMixed by Gigamesh & Style Of Eye

The Penelopes

No sooner had ElectroPoppers The Penelopes premiered their forthcoming new single ‘Summer Life’ than we are treated to this first reMixes of the track, from Dreamwave genius Gigamesh and Swedish bass master Style Of Eye.

Style Of Eye’s mix is a big droning bass monster, balancing the airy nature of the track and his own high-octane Rave but combining floaty arpeggios and storming hands-in-the-air synths he turns the ElectroPop track into a full-on party starter. Gigamesh, on the other hand, wows us with his slick Disco. Giving the track a little extra Funk, Gigamesh layers infectious bass with waves of shimmering synth work and truly makes a track for the summer. The use of the vocals, tailored to Gigamesh’s tune, switches the track around a little, whist the original was for lazy reminiscing, this mic is for dancing in the sunshine. We’re really looking forward to seeing what else the reMix package holds.
