Big C reMixes Alex Metric & Charli XCX

charlie_xcx2

Yes, we are still obsessed with Charli XCX’s new single, You’re The One. No, we don’t really need an excuse to post about her, but it doesn’t hurt that the man Big C has dropped a new reMix of XCX & Alex Metric‘s End Of The World. Careful now, it’s not what you’re expecting.

What we have here is probably the cream of Big C’s productions so far. What it is also is a big Dub tune. Coming from Bristol I have a massive soft spot for Dub, especially electronic Dub, it’s kinda’ in my blood, and Big C works it here to pretty stunning effect. Not only is the reMix innovative, it’s pretty slickly produced too. It’s a reMix that isn’t just going through the motions, it really understands the original and works with it in a completely organic way. In retrospect the original totally opens itself up to a Dub mix, but it’s taken Big C jumping on that to see it to it’s fullest potential.

Yelle reMixed by Gold Fields

yelle

Here’s an unexpected treat, French ElectroPop stars Yelle’s Chimie Physique given a thorough funky going over by Australian Indie-Electro posse Gold Fields. The result is far more Cosmic Disco that we would imagine from a meeting of these two outfits, but it was totally rocked out Friday.

Clocking in at a pretty epic seven minutes, Gold Fields reMix is a big sweeping electronic Disco odyssey. Catchy as hell, both vocally and via the multitude of warm boogie riffs going on in this track. Everything from analog Disco bass to big House piano to SynthPop lead lines, all rolled into a tune you can;t help moving to. At three and a half minutes most tracks have already peaked, but that when Golf Fields only just get going with a huge breakdown that kicks back in with full force. Enjoy.

Future Unlimited cover The Comsat Angels

future-unlimited

Nashville based Indie-ElectroPoppers Future Unlimited, released one of the surprise EPs of the year. The highlight of their EP, EP, being Golden, an uplifting ElectroPop anthem that got lots of play ‘round these parts. While we are waiting for a new release the guys have recorded a cover version of Sheffield Post-Punk band The Comsat Angels’ 1981 classic  Sleep No More.

Future Unlimited’s take on the tune is a breezy Dreamwave opus. Rich and spacious, Sleep No More retains a little of the Post-Punk feel to it, and a hint of darkness, but wraps it up in powerful and warm retro synth work. Only the occasional burst of jagged guitar betrays the songs roots while Future Unlimited make it their own.

Goin’ Old School: just the Pet Shop Boys

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Pet Shop Boys’ new single ‘Winner’ is out today, it’s awesome stuff that we will bring you one their label sort their lives out, but today we’ll dedicate Going’ Old School to Britain’s finest SynthPop duo, starting with 1986’s Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots Of Money).

The tail end of the ‘80’s with Domino Dancing from 1988.

And the utter classic from  1987, It’s A Sin.

Birkii’s ‘Holy War’ reMixes (with Pégase)

Birkii

Parisian ElectroPop chanteuse Birkii’s Holy War single was released this week. We took a look at the original and Reflex’s storming reMix last week, now the EP is out we can check out some of the accompanying mixes. It’s quite an eclectic line up of quirky ElectroPop reMixes that makes for an interesting package.

Pégase is up first with a wonderful mixture of ‘80’s sounds and a ‘50’s vibe, it’s really like nothing you’ve heard before but works really well, especially with a track like this. On the surface it’s quite typical of French ElectroPop, slightly left field with a Indie sensibility, but it;s got the almost Rockabilly swing to it that gives it a unique flavour. Pol Rax delivers a pulsating retro synth mix that folds in elements of Italo and SynthWave into it’s spikey ElectroPop, very ‘80’s synths on this one. Also brining a retro feel to their mix is Zemaria. This Brazilian producer turns in a tune with a sweet ‘80’s DiscoPop style. With a nice amount of groove and a big cosmic chorus Zemaria’s mix is kind enough to include some vocoding for us. Thanks.

Santigold’s ‘The Keepers’ video

Here’s the video for Santigold’s new single, The Keepers. A driving, politically and socially charged, ElectroPop track and one that is infectiously catchy with it’s message.

Santi White herself directed the clip, which I think manages to get across some of what she is saying in the song.

The Keepers is out now.

Avec Sans

Avec Sans

Got the heads up about this over on Breaking More Waves, on of the UKs best, and most passionate, music blogs. Robin at BMW predicts that London ElectroPop duo Avec Sans will soon have the music blogosphere’s tongues wagging, and he could very well be right. So let’s start the ball rolling.

Avec Sans are Alice Fox and Jack St James who, after a seriously classy cover of Bon Iver’s Perth, have dropped this début tune, the amazingly titled Heartbreak Hi. Amazingly titled ‘cos not only is it a reference to casually greeting heartbreak, but also sounds like an awesome Australian teen drama from the early ‘90’s. Now that’s wordplay! The track itself is glorious, rousing slice of razor sharp ElectroPop. With a very slight Industrial quality to it, that is tempered by Alice Fox’s impassioned vocals. It’s rare for a new ElectroPop act to come along and sound so polished and mature from the get-go. Avec Sans are going to do big things, mark my words.
