the-magician1

The Magician – Magic Tape Twenty = Where would we be without our monthly infusion of Disco, House and ElectroPop from Mr. Fasano? A Lot worse off that’s where…and probably Dead. Good thing he keeps the awesome tunes coming then.

Alpha Boy’s new EP

alpha boy

One of our favourite German producers Alpha Boy releases his brand new EP today titled ‘Follow Me’.

The lead track on the EP ‘It Was All A Dream’ is more of the Alpha Boy we know and love. It’s that blend of SynthWave and ChipTune that Alpha Boy does so well. With an awesome selection of sounds, a beautiful,  almost oriental, lead sound playing off against his bitcrushed electronics, and intertwining melodies, Alpha Boy has chosen a track of dreamlike brilliance to jump listeners into his new EP. reMix duties are performed by the always rad Swiss duo Flashworx, who play up the slight oriental feel and work it into their Moroder groove and rousing chords.

Lancelot’s ‘We Can Dance’

lancelot

Yesterday saw the release of Binary’s newest family member, Lancelot,’s début EP, ‘We Can Dance’. It may only be February, but one listen to this EP and you’ll have the shades and shorts on in no time, it’s summer Disco gold.

We’ve already covered the first track on the EP, ‘Spoken Word’, a slick Disco-House tune with some amazing melodies and flourishes that still make it a stand out track. The EP’s lead tune is the titular ‘We Can Dance’, is more retro synth Funk led Disco but with a nice vocal twist. The twist being that is has vocals. The vocal element almost turn this track into a Nu-Disco anthem, if such a thing is possible. It;s definitely a good choice to lead the EP with, this track could have people singing all summer. Remixes of ‘We Can Dance’ are supplied by, amongst others, Binary boys, Fabian and Goldroom, two of our favourite producers around. Goldroom’s mix is deep and slick. A visceral groove with a Tropical sheen and an infectious lead line. Fabian takes things to a more robotic Disco place, his mastery of multi-layered Electro and eclectic influences shining through. that’s not all that’s on the EP, there’s more originals and more reMixes, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Mausi’s ‘Sol.’ video

Mausi seem to be having a good time! Well, you would if your début single was about to be released wouldn’t you?

Ladyhawke reMixed by Nile Delta

ladyhawke

Here’s another reMix of Ladyhawke’s first single from her forthcoming sophomore album ‘Anxiety’, ‘Black, White And Blue’. This time it’s Nile Delta stepping up to the plate to drop a deep electronic Acid Disco groove.

There’s a real old school Chicago feel to Nile Delta’s version. 909 rimshots and burbling Acid lines are the order of the day here, which work surprisingly (and I do mean surprisingly) well with Pips vocals. The whole thing sounds slightly more detached than before, but in a dark, strobe fuelled, club kinda’ way. Both alienating and involving. It’s my favourite mix of this track so far.

Malibu B’s new single

Malibu B

We recently featured Hungarian producer Malibu B and his début EP, and loved it. the guy must be a workaholic ‘cos a matter of weeks later he’s back with a storming new single, ‘Endgame’.

‘Endgame’ drops the 808 cowbells and B-Boy beats to great effect, sitting at the nice meeting point between Old School Electro-Funk and SynthWave. The lead line particularly is of that post-Yazoo’s ‘Situation’ kinds that blurred the lines between SynthPop and Poppin’ & Lockin’. Breakin’ beats aside the track is a beautiful, swelling, synthesizer journey who’s chords instil a sense of calm amongst the retro groove. The B-Side, ‘Loss’, is a deep Jan Hammer-esque peice that, in the imaginary movie it’s soundtracking, sees out hero in a quiet moment of contemplation before the big action set-piece finale.

Kensy Krackshow

Kensy Krackshow

It seems it’s that time of the month to see what shit-hot things the Russians are up to. This time the wearerussians.com label are dropping a free single from Kensy Krackshow.

The single ‘The End’ and it’s B-Side, ‘Malkovich’ are two slabs of powerful, driving, Electro. Dark and gritty with the big, retro leads of SynthWave, the distorted chaos of French Electro-House, and an extra helping of twisted Acid mayhem. There’s some serious competition for the likes of Danger and Kavinsky here! Kensy also recently dropped a free album, ‘Power Of Illusions’, which you can pick up here.

Coloureds reMix Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’

coloureds

Sometimes a track comes along that just makes your face hurt from smiling. Out friends Coloureds have delivered the goods again, in the form of their take on Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’.

The Yellow and Blue noise terrorists give Gabriel what can only be described as a “right sonic seeing to in a back alley” as the layer their trademark chainsaw synths over ‘Sledgehammer’s Pop-Funk vibe. Coloureds are maturing so fast in their sound, shown by how intact they keeps the original song structure, and how much of the underlying groove they retain whist still blowing your ears with their aural assault. No longer a choice between dirty, distorted, confusing in-your-face Electro and dancefloor working Disco. Coloureds have mastered both.

Justin Faust & Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver

justin-faust

Justin Faust has been a long time staple here at electronic rumors, while Finnish Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver have been featured a few time but are relatively new favourites of ours. Put them together and you have one hell of a Discotexas dream team.

Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver’s reMix of Justin Faust’s ‘High Hopes’ was released today for free in celebration of both parties recent, very well received, EPs. JL & JO’s mix of Mr. Faust’s ‘High Hopes’, originally featured on his ‘Girl Talk’ EP of last year, is a shockingly good exercise in fresh Nu-Disco built on retro sounds. It’s got a massive lead line, a serious Disco bassline, popping electro Toms and a wicked little guitar riff to keep things on the up. Pure gold. As we mentioned a couple of days ago, Discotexas are one of the few labels that so consistently release awesome material that you can always bank on the name to deliver the goods.

TEEEL & Sumuo

teeel

What better way to ease yourself into the week than this new collaboration that sees TEEEL teaming up with Sumuo for some cosmic space-Funk.

The result of this meeting of minds is ‘Cosmic Collision’, in more than just title. It’s a glorious synthesizer workout loaded with soaring, stratospheric lead lines. the whole track is underpinned with some nice bass, reminiscent of New Order or Ned’s Atomic Dustbin which provides a rolling melodic groove for some seriously space-age electronic noodling. Chilled and futuristic, perfect Monday morning fodder.
