[Audio] Strange Talk’s ‘Eskimo Boy’ reMixed by Polar Sun

Strange Talk

Australian Indie-ElectroPoppers Strange Talk’s Eskimo Boy is pretty old now (by the super fast Internet based music industry standards of the 2010’s, which is an awful thing, but that’s a rant for a Friday), having been released in 2011. It; been given a fresh coat of synths and a new lease of life by Belgian duo Polar Sun who reMixed the tune to fit into their DJ sets, the result is a synthetic Disco wonder.

Polar Sun’s reMix has a nice raw analog feel to it. The lead synths are sharp and crisp, the basses are warm an rumbling and the drums are suitably Spartan. the guys weave a rich and undulating seven minutes of screaming arpeggios and nostalgic chords, keeping the energy levels up but delivering a friendly, chilled, Nu-Disco groove. The prefect accompaniment for the original’s Indie anthem vocals. We imagine this went down in their sets particularly well.

[Audio] I Am Noxious’ ‘Watch My Ship Go Down’

I Am Noxious

It’s been absolutely ages since we heard anything from Danish artist I Am Noxious. We honestly didn’t;t know is he was still in the business or not. His deeply introspective brand of Bedroom Pop has been with us almost since out inception, beck when Bedroom Pop was a recognized ‘thing’. So, it was a surprise to us when he delivered a brand new tune into our inbox, Watch My Ship Go Down. A tune with proves he’s lost none of his reflective flair, but adds a little bombast to the mix.

Listening to Watch My Ship Go Down you can quite easily slip back into the I Am Noxious groove. That comfortable, personal vibe given off by his music is still present in these new recordings. It’s a pensive track, resting on a combination of toytown beats and gently piano supported by swirls of vintage sounding synths. T’s vocals convey an intimate quality, as with the best Bedroom Pop, but Watch My Ship Go Down also has a surprisingly euphoric chorus up it’s sleeve. A great Monday morning track.

[Audio] David Bowie’s ‘Love Is Lost’ reMixed by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy

david-bowie

Earlier this year David Bowie stunned and excited fans by releasing his first studio album in ten years. The Next Day dropped with no warning to immediate critical acclaim and Bowie fans worldwide going a little weak at the knees. Next month sees the release of The Next Day Extra, a three disc special edition of the album loaded with unreleased tracks and fresh reMixes. Included amongst the reMixes is this ten minute epic from DFA and LCD Soundsystem head honcho James Murphy.

Phased layers handclaps create the backing rhythm for this impressive musical journey. Very much a DFA track, yet still retaining a quintessential Bowie-ness, this reMix reminds us of how amazing Bowie songs can be when he is paired with something more electronic and experimental musically. Given it;s length, it;s no sunrise that that tune has room to breather, taking it’s time building it’s Cosmic, New York Disco, vibe. even taking time to side-line into Ashes To Ashes briefly.

[Audio] Reset! reMixes Ladytron’s ‘Ritual’

Ladytron

ElectroPop legends (yup, I’m pretty sure we can call them that now) Ladytron are working toward a very special Black Friday Record Store Day release this year. November’s celebration of physical media (the second this year) will see the band release a reMix version of their latest album, Gravity The Seducer. Between now and then the band are dropping a couple of reMixes to buy. This version of Ritual from Italian outfit Reset! follows Gosteffects’ Ambulances reMix.

Gravity The Seducer wasn’t Ladytron’s finest moment, and Ritual not one of the album’s standout track either, but Reset! do admirably, turning the Proggy epic into a fairly groovy Disco-House track. The track works best when it deviates from the original significantly, throwing everything from big-room leads to ChipTune chaos into the mix. The end result is an almost French Electro power tune with occasional bouts of swirling guitar breakdowns. We’re definitely looking forward to finding out who else was called up to produce a track for the album, we’ve heard some rumors we’ve got our fingers crossed for.

Ladytron’s Gravity The Seducer reMixed is due out in 29th November, Black Friday Record Store Day.

[Audio] MegaDrive’s ‘The Gate’

MegaDrive

It a bit early for our usual influx of Halloween inspired tunes, no doubt nearer the 31st we’ll be going into blood soaked mode again, but ahead of all that spookiness we have Dallas based SynthWaver MegaDrive’s contribution to this years festivities. A staple of the retro synth scene for the past year or so, MegaDrive has come to be known as a name delivering quality electronic epics.

MegaDrive’s Halloween offering is titled The Gate, this is horror SynthWave at it’s finest. With the obligatory 80s horror movie sample (in this case from the trailer for 1987’s titular The Gate), growling arpeggios and knife sharp leads, MegaDrive instils this slice of movie nostalgia with an air of tension, building the track with swirling leads, ominous tones and even a little harpsichord to keep the vibe going, until it reaches it’s finale and multi layered horrorshow synth climax. Excellent work from MegaDrive, put this on the back burner until the end of the month.

[Audio] Ben Mono’s ‘No Lights’

Ben Mono

Dance music renaissance man Ben Mono is never one to sty away from mixing up styles and flipping from one genre to another. We’ve seen him churn out Electro-House, Nu-Disco, Boogie, 90s House, at times mashing up one or more flavours. His latest single, No Lights, does exactly that. Bringing together a little Deep House and a little UK Garage he’s delivered another floorfiller.

Riding the wave of shuffling Garage-esque beats, this rumbling House track lays down everything you need to work up a sweat. the bassline alone is worth the admission price, a hollow sine affair that is both robotic and soulful. Add to this a rolling vocal sample and lush, rising, synths and you got a tune that transcends genres and lives on the dancefloor.

[Audio] Pyramid reMixes Goldn Retriever’s ‘I Feel Great Now’

Goldn Retriever

The latest slice of majestic French analog SynthWave from the amazing Pyramid comes in the form of this reMix for Goldn Retriever. No, not the dog (notice the lack of an ‘e’ in ‘Golden’), but the London based producer who recently released his album The Dawn Within, from which this track, I Feel Great Now is taken.

Pyramid taken the smooth, soulful Electronics of the original and morphs it into an edge Sci-fi epic with that piercing quality that only he can pull off. A menacing machine beat pounds away in the background, peppered with vintage purcussion, to provide a robotic march for incoming waves of icy, dystopian synths. Amidst all this android funk there is a real human quality to Pyramid’s music that feeds into the original’s vocals. Another quality futuristic soundtrack from Pyramid.

[Audio] Keljet & AVAN LAVA’s ‘Together’

keljet

The new single from Dutch duo Keljet, still riding high on the waves of their Love Of A Life single, sees the Disco dons teaming up with Brooklyn band AVAN LAVA for some seriously epic big room vibes. Released at the end of the month on Can You Feel It? Records, Together looks set to become a club anthem alongside reMixes from Oliver Nelson and René Amesz.

This one is all about the prefect harmony of Keljet’s big, thumping, beats and AVAN LAVA’s rousing vocals. Definitely bringing a hands-in-the-air quality to the track, the vocals are pure sing-a-long, fist pumping, fodder while Keljet’s slightly Cosmic main room Disco sound is as huge as ever. A quality combination of both acts going large and doing what they do best.

[Audio] Du Tonc’s ‘Island’

du-tonc

It’s been just over half a year since MiGHty mOUse and Matt Van Schie got together to form the unstoppable Du Tonc. The duo have achieved shit loads in that short time, world touring, acclaimed singles, it’s been am impressive rise to prominence to witness, and well deserve too, their work is a killer combination of heartfelt Indie and head nodding Disco, just the right mix of emotion and funk.

Their latest tune, Island, leans a little more toward the Indie side of things than their previous outings, but have no fear, the undulating Disco groove persists. Awash with Tropical guitars and beckoning rhythms, Island is a pretty fitting title for the track. There’s also a little bit of a 90s feel to the tune with what is almost a breakbeat repurposed into a dreamy Pop song amongst an infectious bassline. It’s not as immediate a track as Darkness or Rise, but really gets under your skin.
