John Dahlbäck reMixes letthemusicplay

letthemusicplay

Y’know, there’s only two good reasons we can think of for ‘mystery’ (*gag*) outfit letthemusicplay to keep their identities secret. Either they are really, really, ugly, or the *ahem* “famous producers” they are are really shit. It’s probably David Guetta and Will.I.Am, so embarrassed by their terrible back catalogues they are attempting to start afresh. So in letthemusicplay’s case we will wave our growing tedium with ‘mystery’ outfits and say it’s probably a good idea.

Because the music is really good, even if the marketing is nauseating. Both letthemusicplay’s recent collaborations with Cardiff’s Until The Ribbon Breaks have been impressive as hell, and this new reMix of Don’t Weigh Me Down by renowned Sweedish producer John Dahlbäck just adds to that pile. The track, which was recently aired by Annie Mac on her Radio 1 show, is a powerhouse tune that really rolls with the vibe of the original and layers it up with some big dancefloor moments. While not quite as deep and involving as the infectious original the biting chainsaw synths that lead into massive Electro-House riffs are sure to keep the dancefloor moving.

Gesaffelstein’s new single

Gesaffelstein

Incoming is the fourth release on Bromance is the latest double A-Side single from French deep  and dark groove merchant Gesaffelstein. Collectively they call the two tracks the Rise Of Depravity EP, but really, there’s noting ‘extended’ about two tracks, it’s a double A-side single to the rest of us.

The lead track is the dark rave juggernaut Depravity. Easing you in with woozy synths the track soon becomes a hammering dystopian Techno track, relentless in it’s sonic dancefloor assault. The highlight, though, is the flipside, ‘Belgium’. It’s a dark, heavy, Techno track that is completely without mercy. A tune that will make you dance and scare the shit out of you at the same time, with a build so intense that at one point you really don’t know if it’s going to end. I’d make sure there are no hard surfaces or sharp corners around when you stick this tune on.

Future Unlimited cover The Comsat Angels

future-unlimited

Nashville based Indie-ElectroPoppers Future Unlimited, released one of the surprise EPs of the year. The highlight of their EP, EP, being Golden, an uplifting ElectroPop anthem that got lots of play ‘round these parts. While we are waiting for a new release the guys have recorded a cover version of Sheffield Post-Punk band The Comsat Angels’ 1981 classic  Sleep No More.

Future Unlimited’s take on the tune is a breezy Dreamwave opus. Rich and spacious, Sleep No More retains a little of the Post-Punk feel to it, and a hint of darkness, but wraps it up in powerful and warm retro synth work. Only the occasional burst of jagged guitar betrays the songs roots while Future Unlimited make it their own.

Pharao Black Magic’s ‘Hermes’

Pharao Black Magic

Here’s another track from the awesome Kitsuné Soleil album. Swiss outfit Pharao Black Magic haven’t graced these pages for a fair few months, but this new track is about to be featured, alongside appearing on Soleil, on an upcoming DJs compilation from Future Classic as well as Future Classic releasing the track on an EP of it’s own.

The Ghostape featuring Hermes, eased us into the the Soleil album, being featured early on and it’s laid back, no worries, Disco groove and slight Indie sensibilities. The track rolls with a Tropical vibe layering tight guitar licks with laid back squelchy synths that all seems to blend into one another to create a comforting wave of boogie.

Casio searches for the UKs best synth player

Believe it or not, Casio have made some classic synths in their time. Both the CZ ranges (I had a 101 myself) and the VL-Tones (particularly the VL-1) were pretty uncool when released but over the years have achieved cult status. Samplers to, like most people my introduction to sampling was the circuit benders favourite the SK-1 and there was a time when the FZ-1 was in a race with the Akais to become industry standard.

Casio are returning to the world of synth with the forthcoming release of their new XW range, lead by the XW-P1. The synth was launched last week in London along with Casio’s search for the UK’s best synthesist. Submit your best work to the Casio UK Facebook page to be in with a chance of winning an XW-P1 and a slot performing as part of the G-Shock Sessions at the Relentless Boardmasters Festival 2012 in Newquay, Cornwall. Also, you can strut around telling your friends you are the UKs best synth player and have a peice of paper to prove it!

Gossip Culture reMixed by Tommy

Gossip Culture

Hey! It’s one of our favourite Chilly Indie-Electro types, Gossip Culture, reMixed by one of our favourite SynthWave producers Tommy! The Cleveland ElectroPopster is gearing up for a summer release for his new single Just Fine With You, along with a super secret reMix line up. One of those reMixers, however, we can identify as the cream of the French SynthWave scene.

The original track is a fun, rolling summery Indie-electro jam with a Chillwave edge. All floaty, catchy, vocals and washes of reverb. Driven along by a rolling bassline and retro synth stabs, Just Fine With You, captures and optimistic feel good vibe and an effortless Indie cool. And there’s sax, ‘nuff said. Tommy takes that vibe and runs with it, crafting a sweeping nostalgic sound with bright synths and an Italo groove. Slightly switching up the rhythm of the vocals, usually a disaster, works well here, pushing the track forward and making this, more dancefloor oriented version, more urgent feeling. Excellent work from both parties, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the single holds.
