[Audio] Lindstrøm reMixes Little Boots’ ‘Satellite’

Little Boots

Well this is pretty exciting. The queen of UK ElectroPop Little Boots and Norwegian Cosmic Disco master Lindstrøm! That’s a meeting of minds! Lindstrøm is serving up just one of the many reMixes to be featured on Boot’s new single Satellite, which is taken from her amazing second album Nocturnes. To coincide with the single’s release, Boots is also launching a reMix competition for the track, the prize for the most played entry being a Traktor Z1 controller, and one reMix will be picked by Victoria personally to appear on the single release. Get the low down here.

So, to Lindstrøm’s mix. It’s a glorious six minutes of driving tundra Disco, as ecclectic as ever, Hans-Peter rolls in a symphony of synth stabs, organic beats, and bubbling bass notes, and hit just that right note that only he and his Scandinavian peers can. Cosmic, but very down to earth too. Lindstrøm revels in Little Boot’s anthemic vocals and really makes the best of them, never overpowering the vocal melody with his own groove. It’s a good, complimentary, relationship. We can;t wait to see what’s on the rest of the single.

[Audio] Meloder’s ‘Affection’ EP

Meloder

Affection is the title of the new EP from London based House producer Meloder. Released this week on Pole Position Recordings, this is the second EP from this guy who’s making quite a name for himself on the London club scene. His roots in the deeper and darker side of House music sine though on this strangely compelling release.

Affection boasts seven tracks, which is pretty generous for an EP and verging on mini-album territory. Save for one self-reMix the are all original tunes that kick off in fine style with the bombastic Citadel. Citadel really draws you into the EP, at nearly eight minutes it’s an enigmatic, House oddessy, and so so deep, but with a deepness that never forgets the dancefloor with punchy bass and relentless beats. Get Tight drags you even deeper and even has some Hard Trance overtones to it. And so the EP continues, drawing you closer and closer to it’s dark heart, as the haunting and robotic title tracks woozy mood is broken by the uplifting respite of No Time, an amazing warehouse jam. The spacy SynthPop style of Night & Day follows before the EP plays out on the squelchy bassline of Feeling Me. IT;s an exciting release whether you’re into Deep House or just a love of synthesizer music. You should check it out.

Nine Lives

Manchester’s top Nu-Disco producer Nine Lives has delivered a new track that does exactly what it says on the tin. His forthcoming new single, Long Hot Nights sounds exactly as the soundtrack to long hot nights should sound like. Silky smooth with a totally irresistible groove. the track’s released later in August, let’s hope the weather holds up.

With a  hypnotic guitar hook, Long Hot Nights combines the disciplines of  Disco, House and Garage into on seven minute journey through sweaty, sexy dancefloors. Folding laid back lounge sounds into a shuffling Garage beat, Nine Lives creates a comfortable mood, but one that still compels you to dance. We wish all summer sounded like this.

[MP3] LBCK’s ‘Call My Name’

LBCK

Why not kick off your week, or at least the bit of the week that starts once you’ve truly gotten over the weekend, with this luxurious slow Disco jam from LA duo LBCK. It feels like forever since we’ve heard from these two, a year or two ago these guys we’re releasing some seriously good material, then all went a bit quite. Call My Name give us the hint that they’ve lost none of their flair for slick Nu-Disco grooves.

Call My Name is actually the first taste we get of LBCK’s forthcoming full length album. Titled The Goods the record is released later this month and if it’s all like Call My Name, we’re in for a treat. Verging on the Dubby, this is a laid back, sunshine Nu-Disco tune with the tempo reined in and the funk turned all the way up. Still displaying a warped synth sounds and hypnotic hooks of their speedier material, Call My Name uses the twisting sounds in a different way. Like a warm blanket of smooth tones, Call My Name is perfect late-night Disco.

[Audio] JD Samson & MEN’s ‘All The Way Thru’

JD Samson & MEN

Here’s the first single from the new record from JD Samson & MEN. It’s been a couple of years since the ex-Le Tigre Samson’s MEN’s last album, Talk About Body, and we weren’t even sure if a new album was coming, so we’re pretty pleased about this announcement and this first tune, All The Way Thru, promises good things.

Co-produced with Yuksek (he gets everywhere these days, doesn’t he?), All The Way Thru is a lot slicker that we’ve previously heard from MEN. A more polished affair, it’s a slick mixture of Deep House, Progressive House and ElectroPop, with a bit of an Indie-Electro edge to it. What all that means is woody basslines, big synth sweeps and some really nice, heartfelt vocals. The single comes equipped with a Pop mix (!) and three other reMixes.

[Audio] Crayon’s ‘Give You Up’

Crayon

The latest EP coming out of Yuksek’s Partyfine label comes from French producer Crayon, which is just confusing. So, we get that he appears to now have properly dropped the ‘Le’ from his name (as in, no longer ‘Le Crayon’), but I think they forgot to tell loads of people because this very new release is still listed in some stores (hello, Juno!) as being by. Le Crayon. If we were Crayons management we would have very much advised against the name change, it’s becoming a bit of a mess, but we guess he had his reasons and they are his own.

Anyway, on to the EP. So, we’ve got two luscious House tunes by the names of Downgraders and To The Moon, both decadently deep and both all too short along side the EP’s main even, Give You Up. Featuring Australian singer, Chookie Music’s awesome KLP lending a swoosh of 80s Electronic Soul vocal stylings, Give You Up is a blissful slice of Disco tinged retro Pop. With a rolling synth bassline and shimmering keys flowing onto, Give You Up, calls to mind the charts of ‘86/’87 and that breezy Pop R&B vibe (before R&B got into an abusive relationship with Hip Hop). Catchy as hell, there no way you can’t love this tune. The EP also crams in two fine reMixes from Yuksek himself, and reMixes from Blende and Darius, A flavour of Disco for every occasion.

[Audio] Ali Jamieson’s ‘Undisclosed’

ali-jamieson

Next week sees the new release from a man who is rapidly becoming one of the more prolific producers around right now. Ali Jamieson’s release schedule is becoming something to be admired, or decried, depending on your viewpoint, but let us assure you, quality control isn’t about to slip just yet as his latest release, for Noenized, will prove to you.

His new single is called Undisclosed, it’s a shuffling Italo beast that exchanges Jamieson’s usual left-field Funk for some good old-fashioned Boogie. But don’t worry, in amongst the whip-cracking digital bassline sits Ali’s ecclectic vintage Disco stylings as the track soon descends into an epic solo-fest with electric piano, synths and bass all vying for attention. The B-side, Pepper, is actually our favourite of the two tracks. A relaxed slice of Robo-Disco with elements of Moog Funk, Italo, Cosmic Disco and even a little Torpical all coming together with a philosophically mind-blowing vocoder line to create a slice of synthetic relaxation that’s right up our street. The single also comes correct with a reMix od Pepper from French Discomeister Moustache Machine.

Deep and emotional House genius Maya Jane Coles’ enigmatic House epic, Comfort, is easily one of our albums of the year, with Burning Bright, featuring Hercules And Love Affair’s Kim Ann Foxman, one of it’s highlights.

Here’s the video for the track, directed by Thomas Knights, which sees Foxman getting all ritualistic with a recently deceased Coles.

[Audio] Rogue Vogue’s ‘Say You Will (+ Dublin Aunts reMix)

Rogue Vogue

Chicago House music producer, and in our opinion one of the finest in the genre, Rogue Vogue is dropping a new single at the start of next month. Out on House of Disco Records, Say You Will is backed with the track More Than Enough and reMixes from such big names on the scene as LeSale, Sixth Avenue Express and Dublin Aunts is what sounds like one of the Chicago House releases of the year.

Say You Will is bombastic Chicago House that weaves it’s way around a classic sounding vocal sample. Popping with fresh elements, from the digital sax hook to the subtly piano line and the requisite 909 hats, Say You Will doesn’t leave you standing, serving up everything you need to get lost on the dancefloor. Lost in music, that is. More Than Enough is a slightly deeper affair. With more of a strobe lit warehouse vibe the track plays with subby bassed and ghostly organs amongst a compelling House beat. It;s another track that hard not to move to, featuring a punchy riff and just the tiniest hint of Luther Vandross. LaSale, Sixth Avenue Express and Dublin Aunts all apply their own brands of Disco and House to the track, but the most compelling for us was Dublin Aunts piano driven breakdown of the song. There’s just something about the combination of piano and synth bass, and the way these guys play with vocal samples that make their brand of slightly ecclectic House so interesting.
