The Penelopes reMixed by The Flight (& Edwin Van Cleef)

The Penelopes

Quirky French ElectroPop duo The Penelopes release their new single at the beginning of next month. ‘Sally In The Galaxy’ is an uplifting, catchy track with a package that comes loaded with ace reMixes.

Producers of the original version, The Flight, who apparently have zero web-presence, drop their ‘Galactic’ reMix and it’s a fittingly title slab of Cosmic Disco. Weighing in heavy with their vocoders and sweet soaring synths The Flight, who still apparently have zero web-presence, strip the gangly Indie side of the track out, layer on their own Sci-Fi funk and what remains is a smooth beach Disco track fit for chilling on the Shores of Orion. It’s a nice contrast to the original’s fuzzy French Indie/Disco soundclash Pop sound. Both are equally infectious.

Ladyhawke & Treasure Fingers

Ladyhawke

Ladyhawke being reMixed by Treasure Fingers? Oh, it’s just like the good old days, or at least 2008, when Pip ruled all and TF reMixed everyone!

So this nostalgic team up actually delivers the goods. Leaning very much in a ‘90’s House direction, Treasure Fingers drops beats, breaks and House Piano liberally only keeping the chorus and the tiniest bit of synth from Ladyhawke’s original. Although much more retro House than he used to be you can still tell a Treasure Fingers production, just like you can always tell Pip’s vocals. Ahh, the memories…

Simian Mobile Disco’s new single

Simian Mobile Disco

I still have Simian Mobile Disco to thank for one of the best night out I have had in the last ten years and while their last album didn’t grab me as much as their début I still follow their career with interest.

‘Seraphim’ is the first single from the duo’s forthcoming album ‘Unpatterns’ and is an interesting peice of electronic music after my own heart. It’s a deep track that although strictly a House track contains a lot of Trip-House and Bristol Beat DNA, especially in it’s vocals and it’s dubby use of spacious, buzzing synths.  Even the Acid line just adds to the multi-layered texture of the track. A promising start!

Ronika Vs. Lovers & Gamblers

ronika

Are Lovers & Gamblers still Little Boots’ personal DJ army? Or have they evolved beyond that (not that there is anything wrong with being Little Boots’ personal DJ army, I’d sign up!). Well, whether they are or not they still turn out a mean edit, and this is the second time they’ve reMixed a track called ‘Automatic’ this one, the better one, being the new single from Madonna Of The Midlands™ Ronika.

L&G strip the track down a bit, turning it into a slightly more minimal Piano led House track. Upping the tempo and adding some shuffling percussion add a sense of urgency (for some reason I kept expecting the track to drop the Paid In Full beat?) but keeps the funky vibe of ‘Automatic’. It’s a nice, ‘90’s flavoured, House compliment to the Disco groove of the original.

Shit Hot SoundSystem’s new EP

Shit Hot SoundSystem

Nu-Disco producer Shit Hot SoundSystem has just dropped his new EP, ‘Music & Lights’, it’s four tracks of groove laden electronic goodness!

The EP kicks off with it’s lead track, ‘Gimp Disco’, a track that takes in both the Disco and the Cosmic in Cosmic Disco. Funky down to Earth riffs and hook trade blows with Sci-Fi synths. A hypnotic vibe keeps the masses in check while the track rolls out it’s undulating groove. ‘I Got Love is an old school ‘80’s Pop Moog Funk track that The Time would have been proud of with some lush synth bass and a huge vocal hook. Guaranteed to bring euphoria to the dancefloor. the EP rounds off with ‘Girls’ and ‘2getha’, two top notch Nu-Disco tunes with a summery beach style, ripe for being rocked at LA beach parties.

Softwar reMix Azari & III

Azari & III

This new reMix by Australian production duo Softwar of Azari & III’s ‘Into The Night’ is a deep, deep, deep, deep DiscoHousePop masterpiece.

Keeping in time with Azari & III’s ‘90’s vibe, Softwar apply the ethos to their synth Disco. Square ‘90’s House bass and keys dominate this mix, alongside some vintage 909 beats, for a moody and mysterious, late night groove. The prefect combination of nostalgic dance and a slightly edgy, enigmatic sound.

Clancy’s new tune

Clancy

Clancy’s releases are too few and far between. We presume that’s because he is crafting each tune to be as perfect or possible, that or he’s just really really busy. Either way it’s a shame as he’s easily one of the best Dreamwavey/Nu-Discoy producers around today.

His new tune, ‘Bringing You Joy’ is a like the sunset’s shimmering haze as it disappears over the horizon in musical form. Dreamlike and majestic, ‘Bringing You Joy’ washes over you with it’s huge, majestic, chords, Italo bassline and sparse beats. The big trick here, though, is the production, how the vocal samples blend into the track like waves rolling against a shore. A more chilled and introspective affair than we are used to from Clancy, and a less retro synth one too, but a welcome one nonetheless showing there is more than one string to Clancy’s bow.

She’s The Queen & Robots With Rayguns

She’s The Queen

I’m predicting big things for She’s The Queen. Still riding high on the euphoria of being featured on ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ the ElectroPop duo made the slightly confused decision to sign with a record label, that record label being the freshly formed electronic rumors, a decision they made under the advice of their manager, me, do you see where this is going? I’m not really their manager (they just bully me into doing that) I am, however, releasing their new single and some amazing reMixes, it’s gonna’ be huge, but more more on that in the coming months.

Right now check out our friend Lucas, A.K.A. Robots With Rayguns’, reMix of ‘Plead To The DJ’. He’s taken the track and crafted on of those tracks that leads a double life. On first glace it’s a big room, peak time dancefloor destroyer, complete with heavily cut-up and pitched vocals, real Ministry Of Sound stuff. But the track is actually deceptively laid back, the more you listed to it the more you realise it’s actually the prefect soundtrack to rollerblading on Venice Beach or [insert other summery activity here]. It’s that dreamy lead line that makes it, all lush synths played with flourish.

New Substatic tunes

Substatic

It’s Substatic update time! When last we left out heroes they were knocking around on ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ and playing a blinding set at the album launch party. That set showcased not only their new, leaner, line up but also a plethora of new material and, dare I say it, a new ‘sound’, one with a tad more Funk.

Here’s two new tracks to get your aural juices flowing. ‘iMake Noise’ is a bass fuelled steamroller of a track, the don’t-call-it-Dubstep bassline slowly grinding against your brain makes for the perfect accompaniment to Colleen’s sultry, dangerous, vocals. It’s a track with a sense of urgency, a nervous energy that threatens to break at any moment amidst the chiming lead lines. There’s definitely something cinematic about ‘iMake Noise’. ‘Arcadia’ is an instrumental track and, I presume, a tribute to the giant, travelling robo-stage of the same name. Last year at Bestival I was camped literally right next to Arcadia and whilst this track doesn’t quite capture the 5:30am ground shaking, can’t sleep, bass, what it does instead is make you wanna’ jump up with it’s shuffling beats and dirty, funk fuelled synth grind. Capturing the best of those times you can loose yourself on the dancefloor, ‘Arcadia’ should be played at peak time in a field with 30,000 other nutters!
