[MP3] Selebrities reMix Keep Shelly In Athens’ ‘Recollection’

Keep Shelly In Athens

It’s part two of the  Keep Shelly In Athens and Selebrities reMix exchange program. After Keep Shelly In Athens reMixed Selebrities’ Temporary Touch, the Selebs are returning the favour for their Cascine labelmates by whipping up their recent single Recollection into a poppin’ vintage synth fest. Why don’t they just get a room!

From the offset, Selebrities drop an infectious B-boy beat, layering it with vintage synths in a way that brings early New Order to mind. Creating a truly beautiful vintage mood, Selebrities manage to keep this surprisingly funky amidst the washy-washy, reverb soaked, nostalgia. Sarah P’s vocals swim through clam waters of electronic sound and effortlessly meld with the five minutes of upbeat, optimistic, 80s glory.

[Audio] Ditt Inre’s ‘Formulär 1A’ & ‘Tystnaden’

Ditt Inre

Here is a couple of track from Stockholm spacy groovers Ditt Inre. These guys will be releasing their début full length record on the awesome Cascine next month but if you want a hint of what you can look forward two, here’s two track from the post-Chillwavers’ funky shoegazy repertoire.

Formulär 1A lead off in ethereal style, and just for a moment (well, a few minutes) you are cajoled into settling into an atmospheric, haunting, audio experience, before the bounciest of Electro beats kicks in to flip the track on it’s head. The combination of swirling synth tones and dreamlike, hazy vocals with a tight dancefloor friendly beat makes for an interesting contrast, and one that works really well in this case. Tystnaden, on the other hand, leads with an irresistible synth bassline before descending, and taking you with it, into a whirlpool of cascading tones and whispered vocals. We’re very interested to hear the rest of the album.

Here’s the video for Prana by Suffolk noisemakers The Soft. A woozy electronic dream made up of ecclectic synth work and watery vocals.

The clip, directed by by William Glass, is a kaleidoscopic colourful, lava lamp of a performance video. It even runs with the 90s CGI theme. Proper happy daze business.

The Soft’s Prana is out now, their début EP is released 24th September.

[MP3] Keep Shelly In Athens reMix Selebrities’ ‘Temporary Touch’

Keep Shelly In Athens

You may think it’s Shark Week…but you’re wrong. It appears to be Keep Shelly In Athens week. Hot on the heels of Oostende, their ode to all things double ‘o’, come this wonderful, and a little scary, reMix of fellow Cascine labelmates SelebritiesTemporary Touch.

Eschewing the Post-Punk Shoegazeyness of the original for something a little more ambient and atmospheric, Keep Shelly In Athens take a tiny snatch of the vocals and repeats it through the length of the reMix until it becomes an unsettling mantra. Set against a backdrop of growling tones and ice chords, the vocal chant rides the machine beats and created a totally involving experience.

[Audio] digitalfoxglove reMixes The Knocks & St. Lucia’s ‘Modern Hearts’

the knocks

digitalfoxglove tunes. Like busses, if you’ll excuse the cliché. You wait for ages for one then two come along at once. Pulling up to the rear of yesterday’s Daytona comes DFG’s ReDub of The Knocks and St. Lucia’s awesome recent single Modern Hearts. Take your Disco hat off though, this one is going to get deep.

Italo Dub, if you will (and we do!), this reMix get under your skin with a relentless hypnotic groove. Quite Techno in places, the synthetic arpeggios and machine drums pounding out a mid-paced rhythm create an unwavering core for the track. Heavily modulated snatches of the original’s vocal float in and out of the track alongside Dub-like effects bringing a slightly unsettling vibe to the track. It’s no-less compellingly funky though.

[Audio] Mild Peril’s ‘Unknown Zones’ Vol’s 1 & 2

mild peril

July had been a busy week for London based Italo synthesist Chris Flatline A.K.A. Mild Peril. With two releases, on different formats, in the space of a week, Mild Peril in on the approach vector to deliver the culmination of this particular phase of his Cosmic Italo journey. One limited edition, on Vivod Records, and one digital release should whet people appetites for of this lush, evocative, electronic soundtrack.

Firstly, there is the limited edition 12” release of Alpha Zone and Gamma Zone. Both to be found in their original form on the Unknown Zones, First Survey EP, here slightly reworked but no less fantastical. These two tracks are amongst Mild Peril’s best, robotic yet emotional, mysterious yet comforting, utilising machine beats, razor sharp lead lines and heady swirls of synthesizer sounds to create moods for your head and your feet. Owning these two tunes on vinyl is a pretty interesting prospect for the discerning Italo DJ. The second release, Unknown Zones Vol. 2, contains two new tunes, Outer Zone/Sigma Zone and Crisis In Gamma Zone, both built upon existing themes but honed through the last couple of years of releases and live shows into two epic electronic narratives. At around quarter of an hour each, there is much scope here for ushering the listener through a variety of moods that weave together to tell the tale of the whole. Haunting chimes and cascades of electronic warmth will give way to pulsating arpeggios and pulsating FM bass, and back again, as the voyage though Italo, Cosmic Disco and late 70s soundtrack vibes progresses. A definite recommendation for any lover of synthesizer music that should be seeing a physical release later in the year.

[Audio] Coloureds’ new single

Coloureds

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin. This week Oxford based Disco terrorists and convicted synth abusers (seriously, they’re on the register) Coloureds release their new single, Pop Forlorn. It;s been a while since we heard anything from these guys and in the past few months the have spawned a new Coloured. Green now joins Blue and Yellow in their brutal Electro-House oddessy.

Pop Forlorn is at once relentless and funky. Terminator basses ride roughshod over a cacophony of synths that belies a solid groove in what is possibly Coloured’s tightest, and more dancefloor friendly, track to date. Cut-up samples battle it out with pulsating digital sounds to see who can make you move more, just give in to it. The B-side, Automate, is where things start to get really Coloureds-esque, as they bring out their trademark chainsaw synths and set about carving up Disco and putting it back together to create some kind of compelling, groovy Frankensteinian best. The release come backed with reMixes from Sshh! The Deaf Have AIDS, Kenji Run and Tiger Mendoza, of which Kenji Run;s is the standout. Pick this shit up and kick off your weekend in style.
