[Audio] More from Miles Prower

Bristol based SynthWavers Miles Prower have unleashed two more tracks from their forthcoming Pneumatic EP, which makes five now, which is high time the EP was released if you ask us. These guys continue to make their decidedly British mark on the SynthWave scene with Italo influenced grooves and bright Saturday morning melodies.

This World Wont Let Me Down is a rich, emotionally resonant tune in a classic Dreamwave mould. With a tiny bit of a Tropical vibe this time around, Miles Prower deliver punchy basslines to carry the weight while layers of starlight melodies play out over the top.Starlight Burning up’s the tempo somewhat, maybe a little too much. When not descending a suspicious amount into Happy Hardcore territory, it’s actually a pretty uplifting, euphoric track with some epic vocals from Alice Maria Sparey, we’re just a bit concerned that putting a donk on anything is never a good idea. It’s a nice enough tune though, and sees Miles Prower set to turn-in a top EP.

[MP3] Anoraak reMixes Trésors

French Dreamwave pioneer Anoraak never fail to impress and excite with their releases, with are too few and far between, as they do with this latest offering. It’s a reMix of fellow Frenchmen, SynthPop outfit Trésors, who released their début album last November on Modular. Vocally, it’s the perfect song for Anoraak to reMix, sitting with his dreamy synths like it was always supposed to be there.

Eschewing the original brooding dark synth vibe for a more optimistic, nostalgic take on the song, Anoraak brings out his best bright sounds and a thumping Disco beat. Taking you back to the heyday of Dreamwave, all those many three-or-four years ago, this reMix captures all the best Italo influenced elements of the genre. The driving arpeggiated bassline, the warm-glow keys, the track slowly building toward a dancefloor frenzy finale, this ones got everything. Anoraak’s mix features alongside Holy Strays, Bestial Mouths, Steve Moore, Blackmail on the official single package out in April.

[Audio] Chvrches Vs. Curxes

Yes, we’re sure there are jokes to be made about how no one involved in this article (us included actually) can spell, but we’re going to skip that and get straight to the music. Brighton ElectroPop duo Curxes are having an awesome week it seems, not only did they release their new single yesterday, but Monday also saw the eagerly awaited release of Glaswegian SynthPop heroes Chvrches’ Recover, which features a Curxes reMix to boot.

Huge, that’s one way to describe Curxes reMix of Recover. Cavernous. The track is like a cathedral of electronic excellence. Machine gun snyths and one of the most unexpectedly funky Industrial beats we’ve heard in a while threaten to drown Lauren’s vocals, but a perfect balance is struck. The track actually got a lot on common with old New Beat tunes and the second wave of EBM, but with much more of an understanding of what makes infectious Pop. Curxes have taken a completely different route with this song that the original, and very much made it their own.

[Audio] Wolf Saga’s ‘Reign At Night’

Wolf Saga is a Canadian artist whos been hovering around out radar for a while now. Producing some seriously epic ElectroPop with a mix of SynthWave, Chillwave and Indie-Electro flavours, Wolf Saga really knows his way around a synth. He’s just released a new single, Reign At Night with all the vocoding and soaring solos you could want in a track.

Reign At Night drops you into a moody, storm filled, soundscape, punctuated by a raindrop arpeggio before delivering a rich SynthPop track loaded with 80s references without actually being an 80s pastiche. Heavy chords and brooding vocals soon give way to a vocoded refrain and a blissful, sweeping synth solo that. Reign At Night is a truly encompassing experience that sucks you in and ever have a little Disco groove in there too. The sound of the future.

[Audio] Say Lou Lou’s ‘Julian’

Constantly changing your name has got to play havoc with your SEO. Just ask Say Lou Lou, we’d just got used to not calling them Saint Lou Lou and sticking with SLL when they become Say Lou Lou, although to be fair, their previous label, Kitsuné Music have done a fair job of scrubbing the old name from existence. When we say the Australian/Swedish girls live a month or so ago they seemed confused themselves as to what they were called. At that show they played a track which we though would be perfect single material. that song was Julian, their new single. Pop points for us!

Julian is even better on record, than it is live, when you can hear the nuances of the track. Which is a good thing as Julian is pretty subtle, it’s a gorgeous, warm, slice of DreamPop, bathed in layers in intricate synths and the girls comforting vocals. Even more exciting is that the single package will come equipped with reMixes from Martin Dubka, Monsieur Adi. We can’t wait for those.

[MP3] Curxes’ ‘Further Still’

Brighton ElectroPop duo Curxes are spreading their wings even further with their new single, Further Still. Delivering something a little more ethereal this time, an antithesis to their last releases, the relentless Industrial pounding of Haunted Gold and the Post-Punk anthem Spectre. Further Still is a track that demands repeated listening, it’s a track to soak up.

Driven by Roberta’s haunting vocal, Further Still is a slow builder. Taking it’s time to make sure you have fully absorbed each passage before giving you something new. I can’t help but be reminded of Tori Amos in parts of Further Still (good Tori Amos that is, not I-can’t-be-bothered-anymore Tori Amos, when she still wrote interesting, challenging songs), Roberta doesn’t sound like her, but there is a certain inflection in her voice that takes a similar tone. Add to this some majestic, dramatic electronic music, juxtapositioning dreamlike chimes with grinding machine bass and you’ve got a tune that feels like being taken on a journey. The single is out now, with reMixes to follow, including one from the awesome Avec Sans.

[MP3] Eleven:Eleven’s ‘Escape’ (+ The Sanfernando Sound reMix)

Austin based ElectroPop duo Eleven:Eleven are back with their first single for new label Cliché Musique. The new release, Escape, drops in advance of their new album Through The Veil (bits of which we’ve already heard) which now looks set to receive a proper release in May.

Escape is a sweeping slice of ElectroPop that falls slightly toward the Modern SynthPop end of the spectrum, but don’t let that put you off, it’s an insanely infectious with a huge chorus. A rough ‘n’ ready bassline powers the track along like a modern take on early 80s minimal Pop, creating a machine dance until the chorus sweeps in, loaded with lush synths. Sicca sounds as good as ever, delivering the enchanting icing on the cake. Unfortunately, for such a sweet song, the reMix package is a bit of a let down, mostly filled with generic, uninspired takes on the track. Standing proud amidst the mediocrity is The Sanfernando Sound, whose reMix is the packages highlight. The man understands 80s music just as well as he understands dance music, and that’s just the combination you need with a track like this. Working some seriously period percussion against a bass heavy tracks TSS captures a particularly British SynthPop feel, but without sounding dated in the slightest.

[Audio] Musique Le Pop’s ‘Turn To Sand’

Turn To Sand is the second single from new Norwegian ElectroPop trio Musique Le Pop. Chris, Betty and Jon, have been friends for years, and regularly contributed to each others previous musical endeavours, but Musique Le Pop is the first time the three have worked together on, what is now, their main project. Following their acclaimed Time Changes single, Turn To Sand was released last week.

Turn To Sand definitely has one foot firmly planted in ScandiPop, with it’s clean production and shiny synth work, but the other appendage is flirting with classic British Pop, particularly in the DreamPop direction with a hint of Saint Etienne. Lovingly crafted from intertwining arpeggios and heart-warming pads it’s a assuaging ElectroPop track that hides it’s icy Norwegian roots well beneath comforting layers of thaw inducing tones. Betty’s passionate, slightly twee, vocal fits the track perfectly, making for gentle waves of personal SynthPop. Musique Le Pop look like one to keep an eye on.

[Audio] Ronika reMixed by The HICS

Whilst chatting about 90s R&B when we posted about Ronika’s forthcoming new single, Rough ‘N’ Soothe, we were this close to mentioning Mariah Carey. It seems we weren’t the only ones to get this vibe either, as London based Electronic Soul outfit The HICS inject the track with more than enough smooth 90s swing to tip it over the edge straight into Carey ballad territory.

Of course, the key is the chorus and the chimes, both of which are kept intact in the mix, but layered over a booming, laid back, kick & shaker beat and lazy keys. Stirring up a musical daydream, The HICS have delivered that rare of things, a reMix that completely differs from the original (not just a different take on the same thing), but one that sounds just as relevant to the song. It’s not all pastiché either, these guys litter the track with interesting synthetic touches to keep things fresh. We’re looking forward to what else the EP, out in April, holds.
