[Download] Birdee reMixes Reset!’s ‘Shake The Party’

It’s looks like it’s Reset! part time over at Mofo Hi-Fi/Heavy Disco HQ these days. First we were treated to DiscoSocks’ rendition of Reset!’s I Need You and now we’ve got London producer Birdee’s storming version of the Erick Sermon (That’s E-Double, from EPMD, to the grown-ups) featuring Shake The Party. This one deserves to be played loud.

What Birdee has done here, is looked at Gesaffelstein’s recent EBM-in-disguise singles and gone ‘yeah, they sound good, but they’re not much fun are they?’ and imagined a world where Gesaffelstein liked to get down on the dancefloor with the ladies, rather than marching across a post-apocalyptic wasteland with robots of a dubious political persuasion. OK, so Birdee might not have done that, but the end result is the same. Tough arpeggios, noisy synths and distorted blips and zaps all present and correct. But wait, there’s more, Birdee also brings a truck load of funk to the table making those machine riffs submit to the power of the groove. This is powerhouse Disco at it’s most compelling.

[Audio] Todd Terje’s ‘Spiral’/’Q’

The Cosmic Disco champion who only thinks big, Todd Terje, is back with two brand new tunes on his new single. We knew a new epic release was due this week, we weren’t prepared for just how SynthWave the single’s lead track, Spiral is though. It’s pretty amazing, alongside it’s B-side, Q, it represents over twenty minutes of blissful retro synth Disco that it’s hard not to loose yourself in. The man’s working on his début full length record, due next year, and these two tracks have us more excited than ever for it’s release.

Spiral is really, really, SynthWave. Surprisingly so for someone so knows for quirky, Scandinavian Cosmic Disco. But Spiral is an 80s soundtrack masterpiece. With a pumping bassline and starlight arpeggios, Spiral builds up a tension, adding vintage synth stabs to the mix until the track pauses briefly for a big drop, then slams on the accelerator with a massive synth riff a thick chords. It’s B-side, Q, is a little more traditionally Terje. Cowbells and quirky, reedy, synth hooks create that tundra sound we are so used to from him. Hypnotic and fun, Q proves Norwegian Cosmic Disco can’t be beat.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse & Monarchy’s ‘In Front Of Our Friends’

Here’s one tune we’ve been eagerly awaiting for a while now. London’s Disco don MiGHty mOUse and Awesome faceless SynthPop duo Monarchy together on one track. Somewhat of a spiritual follow up to the mOUse’s reMix of Monarchy’s Disintegration, this tune delivers on the price of infectious Cosmic Disco and soaring Pop vocals at the same time as presenting one of the catchiest tracks either of them have released to date.

With a head nodding bass groove courtesy of MiGHty mOUse’s Du Tonc partner in crime, Matt Van Shie, the mOUse style Disco is infused with a brass section whose hook will literally be stuck in your head all day and all manner of sweeping synths. The perfect vintage dancefloor accompaniment for some heartfelt vocals. All-in-all, In Front Of Our Friends is really nice. Lyrically, musically, vocally, just nice. People don’t write enough nice music these days.

[Audio] Lazyboy’s ‘Pica Disco’

The duo Lazyboy are far far from lazy, and to be honest, pretty far from being boys too. This team-up consists of our summer festival overlord, DJ and Sunday Best head honcho Rob Da Bank and London-based producer Dan Carey, a man who credits CSS, Lily Allen and Kylie Minogue amongst his musical conquests. Their new single, their first for years and years, Pica Disco, is set to inject a little Balearic sunshine into your winter (unless you live in Australia, in which case just chuck this in your hot weather jams pile, as you might chuck another shrimp on the you-know-what).

An artful mashup of Krautrock, Guitar funk and live dance beats, Pica Disco is a hypnotic groover which leans toward the Scandinavian end of Cosmic Disco, although slightly more Indified. Personally, we could have done with a little less guitar and some synths, but you know us, we’re picky as hell. Regardless, what you’ve got here is an infectious, rolling four minutes of good-time live Disco.

[Download] Perseus’ ‘Shadow Of The Beast’

It’s been quite a while sine we last heard from French Express main man Perseus. Over a year in fact since his last rash of releases, the acclaimed Seychelles and Love In Zanzibar. From out of nowhere, this week saw the man dropping a brand new track, and possible his best to-date. We can’t stop listening to this one!

With a title like Shadow Of The Beast, and the eerie intro, you’d be forgiven for expecting some dark, a bit experimental, atmospheric piece. But no, Shadow Of The Beast almost instantly becomes on of the most infectious slices of Boogie you’ll hear this year. Given it’s first airing on Perseus’ Boiler Room set earlier int he month, Shadow Of The Beast rolls together a little Ashanti vocals, an rubbery bassline and a whip-crack snare with some lush 80s synths to create a Disco tinged, House leaning, R&B fuelled, retro dancefloor mover. That chime melody’ll send shivers up your spine.

[Audio] Villa’s ‘If I’

Some neat analog Disco for you right now in the form of the forthcoming new single from Belgian duo Villa. Released later this month with reMixes from the likes of MiGHty mOUse, The Shoes and Borussia, If I, is the follow up to their single Mint of earlier this year and nicely coincides with the release of their reMix of Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør’s Running To The Sea.

If typical recent Villa fashion, If I displays an undulating waling bassline and some raw sounding drums. The sparse track slowly builds itself along it’s three and a half minute length, each section of the song adding a new synth line of Disco lick, until the track is a vintage synth workout and you can;t help but like. The slightly cautious vocal does it’s job, but never matches the infectious Disco insanity of the music, still it serves as a nice compliment to the track though.

[Download] Keljet reMixes Ayer’s ‘Circle Down’

A couple of weeks ago we featured the début rack from new Brooklyn based ElectroPop duo Ayer. Circle Down immediately highlighted Ayer as one to keep an eye on, and now it gets even better. Dutch Disco masters Keljet have got their hands on the track and given it an almighty workout. Those passionate vocals really lend themselves well to a tune gliding across the dancefloor.

Keljet soup-up the track with punchy bass and a a nice line in lush retro synths. The originals breezy vocal style slots right in as Keljet work up a nice groove with a couple of sweet, emotive, piano breakdowns. The bassline here is so hypnotic, you just can’t help but nod your head to it, it gets under your skin. Keljet and Ayer are planning a proper collaboration soon, so this reMix is a nice little hint of what to expect in the future. And we expect great things.

[Audio] DiscoSocks reMixes Reset!’s ‘I Need You’

Reset!’s I Need You was one of the big songs of the summer, big grinding Electro-House with a Disco soul. It occasionally veered a little too far of the Turbofunk path into American ‘EDM’ territory, but on the whole was a slamming tune. So, a few months later here’s London bass jockey DiscoSocks to smooth over the tracks rough edges and reel it back into a dancefloor fun arena. It’s part of the official reMix package that was released this weekend. Get on-board.

DiscoSocks morphs the aggressive growl of the original into a Chromeo-esque slice of slick Disco. Leaning heavily, of course, of the Sock’s awesome bass playing, the track revels in the irresistible bassline running throughout. Layering that with slick Disco licks and heavyweight vintage synths DiscoSocks makes everything, from the hook to the vocals, just that little bit groovier. We just can’t imagine a situation that would prevent you for moving to this one, not even if your dead. If you can’t dance to this one then it may be time to reassess what you’re doing with your life. DiscoSocks really is rising to the top of the London Disco scene.

[Download] MiGHty mOUse edits Caro Emerald’s ‘Stuck’

Get ready for some space-age bootleg Disco action as the mighty MiGHty mOUse takes a little break from working his arse off with Du Tonc and touring the world like a boss to deliver this cheeky little bootleg edit of Dutch singer Caro Emerald’s 2010 hit Stuck. A mainstay if his recent DJ sets, the mOUse must have decided that this one was too much fun to keep to himself. We agree.

MiGHty mOUse goes crazy with the smokey vocals and old time Jazz sound. Remember in the mid-90s when Dance acts sampling old Jazz records was a thing? Well, imagine a more Discofied version of that. MM gifts the track some storming beats and big galactic synths, making the tune a bit of a contradiction, but an amazingly funky one. You can see why he put this one together for his sets, this is a real DJ weapon. The track is available, as all bootleg edits should be, for free.

[Audio] Justin Faust’s ‘Elevator’

German Disco don Justin Faust is taking a break from his usual Discotexas releases to deliver something new on acclaimed New York dance label Nervous Records. This week he released a three track EP titled Disco Cuts. You can check out the first of the three cuts right here with the big, sweeping, Elevator. Elevator music this ain’t.

Also heard on this week’s new Goldroom mixtape, Elevator is a filtered Disco juggernaut. Guaranteed to please both the Nu-Disco crowd and the French Touch lot, this tune brings to the table everything you need for a dancefloor destroyer. Hypnotic Disco hooks, pumping beats, a cheeky bassline, and a ton of filtering, bringing the track it’s highs and lows. We can definitely see this being a go-to track in a lot of DJ’s crates for some time.
