[Audio] Ayer’s ‘Black Diamond’

ayer

Brooklyn based Ayer, a collaboration between singer Danny Schmittler and Noosa album producer Mickey Valen, have unleashed a brand new single on the world. We loved their début tune, Circle Down and it’s follow up, Young; and this new track, Black Diamond, certainly continues in his trend of Erasure-meets-Brooklyn sound.

Kicking off with low key synth warbles and Danny’s dramatic vocals, Black Diamond soon builds into a full-on SynthPop epic. Majestic and sweeping; Ayer’s new single is catchy as hell in a smooth way. With a slight not to classic 80s SynthPop, in fact, not even SynthPop, just 80s Pop, in it’s unbridled theatricality this tune is a welcome addition to Ayer’s repertoire.

A couple of weeks ago we featured the début rack from new Brooklyn based ElectroPop duo Ayer. Circle Down immediately highlighted Ayer as one to keep an eye on, and now it gets even better. Dutch Disco masters Keljet have got their hands on the track and given it an almighty workout. Those passionate vocals really lend themselves well to a tune gliding across the dancefloor.

Keljet soup-up the track with punchy bass and a a nice line in lush retro synths. The originals breezy vocal style slots right in as Keljet work up a nice groove with a couple of sweet, emotive, piano breakdowns. The bassline here is so hypnotic, you just can’t help but nod your head to it, it gets under your skin. Keljet and Ayer are planning a proper collaboration soon, so this reMix is a nice little hint of what to expect in the future. And we expect great things.

AYER

Well, here’s a fresh slice of bliss to drop in out Inbox. Ayer is the collaboration between Brooklyn based singer Danny Schmittler and Noosa album producer Mickey Valen. They’ve only got one song to their name so far, but that one song makes a hell of an impression and gives us a taste of what to expect on their début EP, due for release this winter. Which is fitting, as their songs seems to have a winter vibe to them, check out Circle Down.

Taking it’s cues from vintage synth sounds but implementing them in a most definitely contemporary way, Ayer deliver a particularly New York brand of ElectroPop. Both the vocals and music come across as heartfelt and honest. Waves of crisp synths and a beat with a Disco swing compliment a dramatic piano line with a light Funk. Ayer’s vocals have a unique tone and the ability to deliver both passion and groove. An impressive début from these guys, we’ll be on the lookout for more.
