Le Crayon & Oxford and Pyramid reMix Saint Lou Lou

saint-lou-lou

Australian girl duo Saint Lou Lou’s Maybe You, which we featured last month, is out today on Kitsuné Music. Amongst the pretty special collection of reMixes, which includes work from CFCF and Good Night Keaton, is this luscious Nu-Disco workout from the team-up of Le Crayon & Oxford and a spacey synth epic by Pyramid.

These two Frenchmen are amazing producers of summery beach party sounds in their own rights, but together they are unstoppable. Combining their funky, carefree Disco grooves and rousing retro synth chords together results in a pure floor filler. Hazy and loaded with twang synth sounds the reMix plays up the emotional power of the original’s vocals and works that into some big dancefloor moments. This is what retro dance is all about. Pyramid’s take on the track invites us into his world of deep, analog, cosmic synths. Working with the dreamy style of the original Pyramid layers rich, evocative, synth tones against sparse beats creating an atmospheric mood of music beauty and a touch of darkness.

Strangers reMixed by Superstringz

Strangers

Last week saw the quite long awaited proper release of London moody ElectroPop trio StrangersSafe/Pain single. The track is doing well and has been generating quite a bit of buzz over the last couple of months, especially after it’s surprise inclusion in the BBC Olympics coverage. To celebrate the release here’s a free reMix from Brazilian producer Superstringz.

The reMix isn’t featured on the single, but weirdly it’s actually better than the reMixes on the release. Superstringz manages to work a rich dance track that still adheres to Strangers general vibe. Loaded with ominous synths and Depeche Mode-esque percussion, the reMix channels Strangers euphoric melancholy into a big House track that still retains all the tracks depth. Go check out Safe/Pain right now, you won;t be disappointed.

Hemingway reMixes Gossip Culture

Gossip Culture

We featured the original version and a reMix from French SynthWave rocker Tommy, of American ElectroPop producer Gossip Culture ‘s new single, Just Fine With You, a couple of months ago. Now it;s looking like the track is getting it’s proper release soon it seems time to look at the remaining reMix on the single, from the excellent Toronto eclectic Disco producer Hemingway.

Hemingway whips up something a little different for this track. Driven by harsh drum machine beast that are very reminiscent on early Warp Records output. Those raw, shuffling House beats provide a unique backing for Hemmingway’s waves of lush synths. Ryan Sheridan’s hazy Chillwave vocal sits nicely with the reMixes cosmic synths and ‘90’s House touches. It’s a reMix that probably shouldn’t work on paper, with all these conflicting elements, but Hemingway makes everything come together in harmony, and makes it seem effortless.

Southern Shores’ new EP

Southern Shores

One again Cascine sends us the most beautiful music. Toronto’s Southern Shores are gearing up for the release of their new EP, New World. The first track from the EP to surface is New Love, a track that perfectly encompasses the breezy summer vibe of the EP.

From the EP opener Marazul, you are treated to some of the most blissful, engaging sounds this year. At times bordering on Ambient, but always enslaved to the undulating Balearic rhythms that run throughout. When it’s not being all chill-out atmospheric the EP shows off Southern Shores injection of early ‘90’s R&B into their music, tracks like Sankasa and Purple Sky let you easily slip into a Soul state of mind. New Love is actually one of the standouts of this sun-kissed collection, drawing in the influences of the rest of the EP into one neat package. Hazy tropical sounds and rolling Chill-Pop abound as reverb soaked samples and comfortable beats wash in and out of the track like waves.

Grimes’ ‘Genesis’ video

Here’s the new video for GrimesGenesis, one of the best tracks off her Visions album.

The internet seems to hate it, but I can’t figure out why. It’s actually pretty standard video fare these days. I wonder if the internet would like it better if we said Romain Gavras directed it rather than Claire Boucher herself?

Visions is out now.

Techniques

Techniques

Techniques is a new project hailing from Preston, in the UK, and rising from the ashes of acclaimed Indie band The KBC. With one foot in Manchester Indie and the other in Dance music Techniques is an infinitely more SynthPop based outfit than it’s jangly guitared predecessor, and that’s something we’re thankful for as Techniques could well be the next big thing.

The years of Indie song-writing experience have not gone to waste, as evidenced in the two tracks they have out right now, Switch and Heinous Love. Both tracks work that kind of raw emotionality, and slightly cinematic delivery, that so often comes from Northern Indie and combines that with some infectious electronic hooks. Switch is a slowly building ElectroPop crowd pleaser that gets under your skin even before the big riff kicks in. The rolling bass and vocal mantra hypnotising before the track lifts you right up with it’s big anthemic chorus. Stick around for the piano fuelled finale, it’s frantic euphoria. It’s partner in crime, Heinous Love, is a deeper, but no less catchy, affair. An 11 minute epic with more sweeping sing-a-long chorus that rides the House beat, Indie Bass and burbling synths. Around the five minute mark the track descends into one of the biggest drops and build we’ve heard in a while before launching into it’s uplifting synth wig-out climax. We expect to be hearing a lot more from Techniques in the coming months, definitely one to watch.

Aeroplane reMixes Erika Spring

Erika Spring

We’ve been diggin’ Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Spring’s solo work for the last couple of months now, but this is just the icing on the cake. Here next single for Cascine, Happy At Your Gate, reMixed by Mr. Vito Aeroplane. How’s that for a team-up?

Vito bring a touch of smooth to his electronic Disco with this reMix. it’s a slick combination of bouncy House bassline, Disco groove and vintage SynthPop lead lines. The mid-tempo pace of the track, and the steady, pulsing, dancefloor sound works perfectly with Erika’s hushed vocal. The drama in Erika’s performance is heightened as Aeroplane builds and builds toward the end of the track, increasing the tension, until it breaks for the finale. Additional production from Martin Dubka.

Happy At Your Gate is taken from Erika Spring’s self titled EP, out now on Cascine.

LexiconDon’s ‘Burn’

lexicondon

Dropping yesterday was the second new tune from LA Dreamwave capos LexiconDon’s forthcoming sophomore album. Burn sees the guys take a much more chilled, reflective road than their previous work, creating a sweeping, thoughtful peice. I know, right! LexiconDon…introspective…who knew?

Alex and Fabian cock up a rich mix of hazy synths, plucked strings and reverb washed vocals with Burn. Almost like LexiconDon’s take on Chillwave, the track casts a mood of dreamlike nostalgia and melodic pensiveness. Burn is a like a wall of soft noise, or a crashing wave of synths, that provide an intricate stage for Alex’s distant lament to ebb and low in and out of the tune. So far we’re really diggin’ LexiconDon’s new material. Roll on the album.
