Sébastien Tellier’s ‘Cochon Ville’ Video

I suppose I had better mention that Sébastien Tellier’s new video for the awesome ‘Cochon Ville’ is pretty NSFW. I don’t usually mention that as I figure we’re all adults here and the idea of getting people into trouble at work amuses me. I mention it now though, as I don;t really want to get anyone fired. So, basically, boobs and cock. You have been warned.

Alexandre Courtes, who recently did Justice’s ‘On ‘N’ On’ clip, directs this Tellier worshipping orgy of stuff, and orgying. With Tellier as blue god overseeing his Disco minions and whipping the up into a state of ecstasy, the video is sure to draw some attention. Come for the clip, stay for the ace tunes.

‘Cochon Ville’ is the first single taken from Sébastien Tellier‘s new album ‘My God Is Blue’ available today via Record Makers.

Nite Jewel & Dntel

Nite Jewel

OK, someone’s just massing with me now. It’s bad enough that track ten on Nite Jewel beautiful current album ‘One Second Of Love’ freaks me the hell out, it’s called ‘Clive’, which does my head in. But now they get Dntel to weird it up even further?

Dntel is, of course, Jimmy Tamborello who was one half of The Postal Service, who’s ‘Give Up’ was possible the best album of 2003 (whoa! was it that long ago?), so if they’re going to get anyone to twist up my namesake then I’m happy he’s the guy. The reMix is amazingly innovative, chopping up the vocals into new melodies to layer alongside his glitchy beats a wonderfully emotive synth sounds. Ramona Gonzalez take on a whole new beauty as an instrument, becoming part of the wall of dreamlike noise, kept in check with a steady dancefloor beat. And, yes, it does sound a little like the Postal Service.

Tommy’s new EP

tommy

Released this weekend was the new EP from French SynthWaver Tommy. Tommy has slowly been building up a strong reputation in SynthWave circles for pumping Italo influenced tracks with soaring solos and this new EP, titled ‘Tuned Into The Future’, is crammed full of space-age synthesizer heaven. Six tracks to lift your emotions and move your feet.

The whole of ‘Tuned Into The Future’ plays like a complete soundtrack, a full narrative, both thematically and musically. Each track seems to capture a section of a story unfolding and gently ease you into the next. From the intro track, ‘Highway Heat’, whose driven Electro beats and cosmic Vangelis-esque lead lines set you up for the coming EP experience to the gentle  synthesized ebb and flow of ‘Plage Bleue’, each peice is quite separate, yet feels part of a whole. this is an EP that should be experienced, on headphones, from start to finish. As the tone shifts from the contemplative ‘Endless Desolation’ to the energized soundtrack of ‘A Town In Chaos’ you, as the listener, just tend to go with it, allowing your emotional journey to be led by Tommy’s expressive playing. It’s difficult to single out individual tracks within the ‘Tuned Into The Future’ EP, suffice to say the EP ends on the title track, which is a majestic synth epic that really sees the collection off on a high.

Alphabeat’s new video

Denmark’s heavyweight champions of ElectroPop Alphabeat are back with a new video for the lead single off their forthcoming new album. It’s called ‘Vacation’ and it’s scary colourful.

Taking the ‘Vacation’ theme seriously the clip sees the band prove that waiting around in a airport doesn’t need to be dull, if fact it can be so much fun it’ll probably induce seizures. The colours are as bright as the melodies. Pure European Pop gold.

‘Vacation’  is out now.

Lenno & Martin Solveig

marrtin-solveig1

Hot on the heels of wunderkind Madeon’s reMix of Martin Solveig’s new single ‘The Night Out’ comes another of our favourite up-and-comers Lenno’s version of the track. Madeon’s an absolute genius, there some kind of freaky latent talent going on there that is so far beyond and normal human ability that it’s possible he’s a extra-terrestrial visitor sent here to study homo sapien reactions to Disco, but if, gun to our head, we had to pick between Madeon and Lenno, I think Lenno would just take the prize. His smooth but energetic French Touch gets us every time.

So, to his reMix. Solveig’s made some awesome reMix talent decisions (A-Trak also contributes a blinder) and in contrast to Madeon’s powerhouse track, Lenno drops something slightly more slick. The lead riff the Finnish producer has worked into the track is pure dancefloor jump-up energy and rides effortlessly over the kind of bassline that you could work into any set as it rolls along, unobtrusive, yet unconsciously building you to the big drop. As far as we’re concerned, this is the pick of the reMix package. I guess that makes us ‘Team Lenno’ then? Ah man, does that mean we have to change all out user icons?

Citizens! reMix Man Without Country

Man Without Country

London Indie-Electropoppers Citizens! are on a roll right now. A couple of amazing singles, some high profile compilation appearances, and now it seems innovative and damn funky reMixes, have propelled them into the tastemakers consciousnesses to the point where success is pretty much guaranteed. I’m happy for them, maybe now they can afford those decent haircuts they’ve been after for so long.

And those fashionable barnets would be well deserved, these guys have got a really raw, almost live, electronic sound that, when they lend it to a reMix, makes for a unique, and raucous take on ElectroPop. Being lent this garage synth vibe are Welsh Chillwavey electronic noodlers Man Without Country, whose track ‘Puppets’ becomes something akin to Moroder through a distortion pedal at the hands of this hipster quintet. Citizens! are doing an amazing job of bringing a rough, garage quality back into the world of SynthPop, as they do on this reMix, and as the will probably do when they launch their new single in London 18th April with Men Without Country in tow.

Friday Bridge & Nicolas Makelberge

Friday_Bridge

Friday Bridge are a Sweedish SynthPop duo that mix in a little Baroque in to their Pop, they’ve been around for about half a decade but I know them from their team-up with Johan Agebjörn on his ‘Casablanca Nights’ album. I can actually find very little information about them ,and even less about their newest collaborative partner Nicolas Makelberge. I can only assume it’s because they are actually deep cover government operatives with some hidden agenda who are only masquerading as makers of awesome ElectroPop.

So that their cover isn’t blown, lets just play along and hope no-one shoots/stabs/poisons us. This new single, ‘Dark Heart’ is a bright shiny slice of DiscoPop that Friday Bridge claimed in their email contains some “saucy “oh’s”” , they’re not wrong. The thing is chock full of saucy “oh’s” and smooth dancefloor friends basslines. It’s actually a pretty unique combination between sexy Disco grooves and that Scandinavian iciness you usually find in more experimental outfits like The Knife. Here, that slightly razors-edge feel is interestingly applied to more traditional, friendly, ElectroPop and the end result it something brand new. Disco grooves, Pop sheen and an edge of danger. We’re definitely now looking forward to hearing more from these guys new album. On an unrelated note, I might start producing a line of canned spaghetti hoops in tomato sauce called ‘saucy oh’s’.

Zimmer – April Mixtape ‘Desert Drive‘ = Zimmer must be knackered! It only seems like a couple of weeks ago he dropped his March tape, then he released the reMix EP of ‘Horizontal Disco’, now he;s straight back on the horse with this new mix. Rüfüs’ ‘This Summer’ video

Aussie Indie-Electro rising starts Rüfüs’ ‘This Summer’ finally has gone and got itself a video, not sure what it’s been doing with it’s time before this that was so important though?

Alexander George directs this collection of youths-loosing-themselves-in-good-times-and-getting-a-bit-rowdy-in-slow-motion clip which, whilst being a tad unoriginal, actually looks really nice and works perfectly with the track.

Rüfüs’ EP that contains ‘This Summer’ is out now on Gigpiglet/Inertia .
