Goldroom’s ‘Pacific’

Goldroom’s latest tune, Pacific, comes from a free EP released by Scion Audio/Visual, Sharkwaves Vol. 2, you can download it here, then own for yourself what we consider on of the highlights of Josh’s career. After the runaway success of the insanely infectious Fifteen Josh bring is back down a notch with Pacific, giving anyone who just really digs synth sounds a glorious five minutes.

The track revolves around these massive Vangelis-esque chords, simple yet beautiful, and keeps itself quite low key. Simple beats, roomy production and a laid back vibe all let the track breathe. This freedom the tune seems to poses in turn allows you to be drawn into it’s many layers. It allows you to sit amongst the little melodies that fly left and right and be carried away with the song as new refrains get drawn to the surface. Haunting and involving, it’s testament to the tracks absorbing qualities that I’m supposed to be sitting here writing about it, yet, I have just listened to it six times whist staring off into space. Just get into it.

Mjolnir reMixes Nidji

The best thing to come out of Indonesian since nutmeg, Mjolnir, are back with a fresh reMix. This time getting busy with Party Kids from Nidji, apparently one of Jakarta’s biggest acts. Nidji recently finished an album for international release and asked Mjolnir to reMix this track. Well, you would, wouldn’t you? If you’re one of Indonesia’s biggest Pop bands and have one of the slickest reMixing teams around on your doorstep, you use them. This was actually released in January, but went largely unnoticed, we presume, outside Indonesia. So thanks to Mjolnir for drawing out attention to it.

First off, ignore the terrible lyrics, English isn’t Nidji’s first language, they are forgiven. The lyrics to Party Kids are pretty poor though (not sure that’s going to help with the whole ‘international album’ thing), but the track is excellent. We’ve not heard the original, so there’s no comparison, but Mjolnir’s reMix is the flotiest of floaty Dreamwave. Lush analog synth work fills out the track with big retro chords and a bassline you can revel in. The subtlest of House piano brings the energy up, keeping this nostalgia party going. The lyrics may be cringe worthy, but the vocals themselves are pretty epic, and soar over Mjolnir’s bouncy backing. A true retro party starter, Mjolnir keep getting better and better.

Arc Neon’s début EP

We wrote about new Synth wave crafter Arc Neon a while back. Rising from the ashes of Indie-Electro outfit Wolf And Yeti this London based producer has a knack for blending vintage synth sounds and samples from ‘80’s TV. News reports, adverts, you name it, Arc Neon will make a track out of it.

The man has just released a new EP, Wet Dreams, his début complete release. And an impressive début it is too. Kicking of with is standout track, Spring Break (Lisa’s Theme), a complex and intricate five minute epic . Whilst the track’s rich electronic tapestry and sense of dark drama never really mesh with teenage rabble rousing of the Spring Break news report samples, this doesn’t detract from what is a driving and emotionally resonant synth tune. There’s some insanely good riffs in this tune and a multi layered Italo style production that gets pitch perfect at times. On Riot the music and sampled subject matter gel a lot better. The report of prison riots plays well with the arpeggiated, almost old school EBM, bassline and switchblade lead lines. Also house within this package are the previously posted Beyond Our Control and synthetic sleaze-fest Looking For A Goddess. Arc Neon has laid down his manifesto here, and it’s one that will no doubt see him shoot to the top of the SynthWave scene.

New tune from Bon Accord

Bon Accord, London based producer Michael Wright, featured on electronic rumors last year with his instrumental DreamPop EP True Delusion. He’s been a bit quiet since but this week stopped by the ol’ inbox to drop of his latest creation, more blissful electronics in the form of Pleasure.

It’s a track that lives up to it’s name, bouncy and diverting but with a warm mood of fantasy. Still working with a sound that lives at the intersection of BedroomPop and Chillwave, Bon Accord adds a slight Disco groove to his rich pallet of vintage synth sounds, letting his sparking melodies and buzzing pads fill our minds while the rhythm section moves our feet.

Goldroom ‘Fifteen’ video

Goldroom’s summer anthem Fifteen now has a nice visual element in the form of this new official video.

Directed by Jacob Gibson, the video is very Goldroom, in the sense that it’s very Dreamwave, almost a spiritual successor to Josh’s NightWaves Sweet Carrie video, slightly more grown up, slightly more adventures, no less full of wonder.

F3’s new single

Silhouette Music are fast becoming one of the Dreamwave/Nu-Disco labels to watch. All of their recent released have been right on the money. Not only that but they have been giving support to some top up and coming artists. In the case of their next single it’s relative newcomer F3, two producers from Tel Aviv, Israel, who gets the labels support.

The single, Congo Bongo, is (despite the title) a slick, and pretty complex, Nu-Disco tune with enough Electro Boogie overtones to give it that slight edge. There’s a really nice way the stomping, percussion fuelled, rhythm plays against the floaty vocal samples, the hard and soft of the track adding to the comfortable party groove. There’s a bunch of reMixes on the single, covering a few different styles, but we have to give a shout out to our boy Silenx, who completely flips the script on the track, morphing it into a deep, atmospheric Synthwave instrumental peice. A majestic dark future soundtrack which slowly builds to a melodic and optimistic finale, both to the track and the single as a whole. Every single or EP should end like that.

Future Unlimited’s new track

Future Unlimited are a Nashville based Indie-Electro, verging in ElectroPop, with a Chillwave outlook, duo who we’ve written about a few times in these inches. Their EP, EP, released earlier this year was a masterclass in floaty retro Dreampop and now the twosome is back with a new tune, Lightweight Eyes, that further cements their reputation as purveyors of vintage emotional dance greatness.

Lightweight Eyes is probably up their with their best track to date, Golden, a multi-layered, swirling track. A Dreamwavey retro ElectroPop track washed with Chillwave’s reverb sounds more contemporary that you’d think. This tune shines, everything about it is shimmering and bright, but in soft focus. The hazy synths blend and evolve together like a nostalgic dream, instantly confortable but somehow distant, while the vocals dance around, weaving in and out of the song. There’s an almost shoegaze quality to this track, except it’s far too dancefloor friendly to be truly ‘gazey. This, more Electro direction, definitely has us eager for more from Future Unlimited.

Pat Lok’s new single

Today Canadian Nu-Disco guy Pat Lok releases his new single, Remember, on Frances excellent On The Fruit Records. We caught a listen to the original version back in March, it’s a floaty, spacey slice of electronic Disco with a dreamlike quality that wraps you in it’s funk warmth. Now the track has a full release with some pretty awesome reMixes.

reMixes come correct from fellow Canadians Sp00nfed and British production duo of Glyn Cosford from ICOMPUTE and Tronik Youth’s Neil Parnell, otherwise known as Wayving. Sp00nfed do a good job of keeping the dreamy vibe but Housing things up a little, morphing the laid back Disco into Laid Back beach House. Laying a little piano riff and some piercing synths Sp00nfed get right inside your head with this one. Pure funky dancefloor bliss. Wayving’s take on Remember is a rich, full, Disco experience, don’t let the toytown synth riff fool you, this is big tune. Riffing off ‘90’s House, Wayving lay down a solid groove guaranteed to move you.

Rüfüs’ ‘This Summer’/’Selena’ reMixes

Australian Indie-Electro trio Rüfüs’ This Summer has been out for a while now in single form, being on e of the Anthems of this year. Enter London’s ElectroPop don Jerry Bouthier and his Continental Records imprint to bring the track, once again, to the forefront with a reMix package of This Summer and Selena.

With a track this epic, it would be hard to do any wrong, but this collection of reMixes exceeds expectations. Mr. Bouthier’s own JBAG head up the EP with an amazing DiscoPop reMix that is just everything you’d want from a fun summer tune. A bouncy bassline and thick retro chords makeup a huge, all encompassing sound that truly does the song justice and, more. Perfect drum fills and an insanely catchy hook are the icing on the cake. This track is going to get caned. Rüfüs themselves contribute a deep Techy take on This Summer, full of Techno intricacies and moody chords this is one for late night in Berlin, with the added bonus of a big Dreamwavey lead. Nu-Disco newcomer Lancelot has really impressed us this year, and to this package he contributes another quite deep mix, this time with more of a synthetic Disco feel as he takes Selena and works it into almost a Disco Dub. The single also contains work from, with a droning Techno mix, Parachute Youth with a chaotic Dreamwave mix and slick ‘90’s House take on Selena from Frames.

Sohight’s ‘Get It Right’

Keiz Beats are once again releasing the new record from the Russia team up of Sohight and Cheevy. Sohight has been killing it with every release me drops recently, especially when teamed up with Cheevy’s vocals and this new tune, Get It Right, is no exception.

Following on from their last couple of releases, Get it Right certainly gets synthesizer funk right. It’s a flashy mirrorball tune, packed with emotion and heartfelt passion. Occasionally veering into ElectroPop territory, Get It Right brings twisting Moog Funk, slick Disco, SynthWave chords and a catchy as hell vocal to the mix and spits out a Sohight’s best tune to date. reMixes come in the form of Xtrafunk’s laid back beach party Disco sounds, complete with fantastic synth soloing. Follow Me who turn up the SynthWave for a full on ‘80’s Italo fest and La Zebra piano driven ‘90’s House/Disco hybrid alongside work from Patchwork and Stubbs. The Get It Right single package is full of floorfillers and party starters, you should get involved.
