[Audio] New Arcades’ ‘Dreamers’

New Arcades

Dreamers is the latest addition to New Arcades soon to be released début EP. we’ve heard four tracks so far from this London based duo, the EP will apparently contain six tracks. That means there’s two more surprises coming, which we’ll be excited to hear. These guys are really carving out a name for themselves when it comes to big, emotional, SynthPop.

The new track, Dreamers, is an instrumental piece, but the absence of New Arcades passionate vocals doesn’t make it any less resonant. This duo really work their instruments to draw out every ounce of felling in their music. Pulsating Italo bass builds the tracks core leaving tons of headroom from sparkling melodies and promise filled drones to weave an uplifting, nostalgic, mood. Things are looking very good for this pairs forthoming release.

[Audio] Strangers reMix Jess Roberts & The Silver Rays

Jess Roberts & The Silver Rays

Here’s a brand new reMix from London’s SynthPop rising stars Strangers. they have taken on fellow local band Jess Roberts & The Silver Rays to deliver a rousing synthetic take on their track Money (I Like You Better). Strangers are due to producer some (long awaited) new material very soon, but until them, this storming reMix should keep you satisfied.

The song, Money (I Like You Better), provides a glorious, deep, soulful vocal for Strangers to work with. using that moody vibe as a jumping off point, Strangers put together a coarse, but full of feeling, track full of shifting moods. The drums swing from jump-up military to straight-up dancefloor while the guys lay down ominous bass tones against bright, shimmering, piercing melodies. all this makes for a rich electronic experience and one we hope to hear more from soon.

Griefjoy

There’s a new Yuksek reMix in town! The French Indie-Dance master has been brought on-board to deliver a version of fellow French quartet Griefjoy forthcoming single, Touch Ground, and he does so in style.  As you would expect, Yuksek takes this smooth Continental Indie and turns it into a big dancefloor smash. the combination of heartfelt French songwriting and powerful Parisian electro is an anthem in the making.

Yuksek turns everything up to eleven here. Each element of his mix is punchy and on-point. An exceedingly funky digital bassline powers this reMix along like an unstoppable Disco juggernaut, it’s a bass hook that just sticks in your head. There’s loads of synth touches to keep you happy, and that biting, raw, Electro feel that accompanies so much of Yuksek’s work. [Audio] College reissues classic début album

College

Sometime in the last year the world went Drive crazy. The PR email that landed in our Index for the new release from Valerie head honcho College uses the word ‘Drive’ six times. Which is milking it a bit too much, it’s getting embarrassing. The man known to you an me as the founder of the Valerie collective and one of the originators of the SynthWave scene, and now apparently known to the rest of the world as “Drive star College” (I didn’t know College was Ryan Gosling!), is rereleasing his classic début album Secret Diary alongside the Teenage Color EP .

Both releases will get a vinyl and CD reissue courtesy of Invada Records, the label of the legendary Portishead’s Geoff Barlow. There’s not much point me telling you what it sounds like, I expect everyone who reads this site has probably already got both releases, but of vinyl junkies out there this is a pretty cool opportunity to pick up these tunes on record. Well, worth picking up, ‘cos don;t get us wrong, David Grellier is an amazing artists, one of our favourite producers, we just think it’s time for everyone shut up about a movie released two years ago and get on with some new music. That would be amazing!

[Audio] Fabian’s back!

Fabian

We were just wondering the other day when LA finest Electro-House producer Fabian was going to drop something new on us. One of the top dogs in the Binary crew, Fabian has such a varied repertoire, you never know what his next track is going to be like, except that you know it’ll be funky.

A Million To One is his latest cut begins with a shuffling beat, building a 909 snare anticipation before it, unexpectedly, drops a big vocal hook on you. this is a track that’s built around a catchy lyric and a big Electro-House hook. Popping percussion give it a little retro edge, whist the majority of the track is straight-up banger. The uplifting vocal, combined with some Cosmic synths, give A Million To One a soaring quality that’s bound to have the kids reaching for the lasers all summer.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse’s ‘Love Is Gonna Lift You Up’ reMixes

mighty-mouse_thumb

We heard the Sunrise Mix of London Disco juggernaut MiGHty mOUse’s new single Love Is Gonna Lift You Up, last week. Now with the release imminent we get to have a sneaky preview of the remaining version of the track. The mOUse’s ode to Bobby Womack’s Love Is Gonna Lift You Up, from his recent The Bravest Man In The Universe album, the reMixes add a new vocal and take the song is groovy new directions.

Whereas the Sunrise Mix is shiny, shuffling Disco with bright House overtones, the Sunset Mix takes a deeper, funkier synth Disco approach. Dare we say it, a more MiGHty mOUse approach? The moody, but infectious, burbling bassline that  rolls through the track is this mix’s heart. Sounding a little Acidic at times, the bassline has the prefect amount balance Funk and Cosmic for some Sci-Fi Disco, letting the tracks optimistic percussion, swelling strings and the vocal flow, over it like water. Add in a somewhat Tropical breakdown and you’re looking at the releases highlight. If you’re not so keen on the vocal, there’s a dub version of this galactic oddessy too. Deep Cosmic Disco not deep enough for you? The Church Mix delivers a Spartan Deep House vibe mixed with a swinging Disco beat and a big organ riff that landed the reMixing it’s name. The Church Mix may have just invented Sci-Fi-Gospel Disco-House with it’s Southern US mood and Chicago groove. All-in-all, a stunning new single from MiGHty mOUse, but we expected no less.

[Audio] Garth Knight’s ‘Goliath’

Garth Knight

Of all the recent crop of new SynthWave artists to break in the last twelve months, Glaswegian artist Garth Knight has stood out from the pack both in terms of composition and production. This has marked his début album as one of the more eagerly anticipated SynthWave releases of 2013. The album saw the light of days earlier this month via Lunar Boogie, and having given it repeated spins in the last week or so we can definitely say it doesn’t disappoint.

The albums title continues Garth’s obsession with the dark side of Knight Rider. Named Goliath after Michael and K.I.T.T.’s evil counterparts Garth and K.A.R.R.’s own semi-truck in the show the record drops lots of Knight Rider references, but musically and lyrically, which nicely sets the tone of the album. Made up of the best of garth’s releases over the past twelve months sprinkled with new tracks, Goliath kicks off with the epic six minute Mainframe which lays out Garth’s particular brand of dirty basslined SynthWave perfectly, giving you a fair amount of time to acclimatise to this world of action packed anthems. Autotron keeps the grimy synth bass vibe going, setting it against haunting pads and if followed by Turbo Boost, the albums first sit-up-and-take-notice track. A rolling Italo jam, Turbo Boost comprises a vintage beat and a spikey FM melody that provide backing for a ridiculously simple, but catchy vocoded vocal. Skipping over Break Point, the album’s aberrant off-track (it’s a bit of an embarrassment compared to the rest of the release), you find Headstart, a frantic, arpeggio fuelled, race track that lift the energy of the album back up and delivers a synthetic rush before the second half of the Goliath. Silent Strike is another standout, drawing dangerously close to ElectroPop in it’s Poppy hooks and euphoric vibe. Silicon Dawn and Transcoding follow, both injecting the collection with a darker tone, before giving way to the retro synth Funk of Solidstate. Solidstate is driven along by a deep, groovy bassline that’s layered with Cosmic synths and an ethereal melody. The album eases you out of it;s world with the Jarre-esque Time The Healer, a beautiful slice of melodic 80s synth work. Goliath is a solid release, and fans of the genre should already have this record in their collection.

[Audio] Miss Kittin reMixed by Mock & Toof

Miss Kittin

House champion and the voice of ElectroClash Miss Kittin’s Bassline/Come Into My House single was released earlier this month with a reMix package due to drop in March. Amongst the reMix collection is this hypnotically Acidic version from UK duo Mock & Toof.

For almost all of the tracks seven minutes we were having ‘white gloves’ moments. The track is loaded with melodic, arpeggiated, synth percussion and 303 burbling which, when coupled with a deep bass grove, makes for a perfect warehouse flashback experience. Miss Kittens smokey vocal just adds an extra layer of entrancement. Prepare to get lost in music.

[Audio] Keep Shelly In Athens’ new single

KEEP-SHELLY-IN-ATHENS-575x593

Acclaimed left-field ElectroPop outfit Keep Shelly In Athens have announced their signing to Cascine for the release of the début full-length record. To celebrate the occasion they have unleashed the first single from the album onto an unsuspecting world.

Madmen Love is four minutes of brutal beauty. Deep, ominous bass synths and fidgety, industrial percussion. It’s a track that has a lot in common with much Minimal Synth, dark synthetic pulsating, kling-klang beats and tormented vocals that are pretty relentless, giving way only briefly the the dreamiest of breakdowns, just to build toward a cacophonous climax. Taking in influenced as varied as  UK bass the more avant-garde Goth, Madmen Love is modern Post-Punk done right.

[Audio] Viceroy and Chela reMixed by Alfa

viceroy-dream-of-bombay-feat-chela_thumb

I know you’re full, but surely there’s room for one more morsel of  Viceroy and Chela’s frankly amazing Dream Of Bombay? Of course there is! Especially when it comes from Binary O.G. and moustache aficionado Alfa. There’s always time for Alfa!

Taking a different route with the track than the other mixes, from Bit Funk, Wax Motif and Bufi, Alfa creates on a head on collision between classic Daft Punk and Moog Funk. Pulsating, relentless synth bass and vocals transformed into groove laden melodies dominate the track. Big, sweeping synths take the track to the next level, giving the funky little licks a Cosmic vibe. It;s probably the most rough ‘n’ ready version of Dream of Bombay, and one that eschews the originals song structure, but it’s also a guaranteed floor filler. This’ll keep ‘em dancing!
