[Video] Du Tonc’s ‘Darkness’

Du Tonc Darkness OFFICIAL VIDEO YouTube

We expected there to be a video coming for Du Tonc’s Darkness. The duo of MiGHty mOUse and Van She bassist and ElectroPopper Matt Van Schie’s début single is seriously one of the more impressive first records we’ve heard in ages. With a sprinkling of Indie, 80s, ElectroPop, Tropical and Disco, Darkness has something for everybody.

Check the hedonistic, feel good video, directed by Simon Savory. A colourful thesis on just letting everybody be who they want to be and have a good time.

Du Tonc’s Darkness is out now.

[Audio] Ali Jaimeson’s ‘Pending’

Ali Jaimeson

Ali Jamieson is getting set to present his new EP to the world. Having been snapped up by Keenhouse’s Sunlinxx imprint, Jaimeson is soon to release his first offering for them, Pending is due out later this month and it;s left-field jazzy Disco is a good fit for the label. Ali’s kinda’ been a slow burning surprise to everyone, better known has Heavy disco label boss and La Bombe PR guru, he;s been quietly developing his sound as a producer, releasing EPs to little fanfare and subtly ended up one of the most interesting producers working today, this new single proves that.

The release’s lead track, Pending, is a luscious mix of gritty Disco and smooth Acid Jazz. Complimented by a heavy synthetic bassline, the track counterpoints dirty, distorted synths with a laid back, vintage, electric piano line. An ecclectic mix of shuffling machine beats and funk fuelled riffs, Pending is both pleasing to the ear and infectiously groovy. It’s B-Side, In Light Of, takes a more chilled approach. But don;t let that put you off, it’s Sci-Fi LA-Funk-from-the-future style chilled. With a touch of Chicago about it, if DâM-FunK made House records in space they would sound like this. As the track progresses it become more involved, as Ali plays with more levels of melody and intricacy while keeping it, at all times, smooth as hell. French Disco master Douze’ provides a reMix of Pending, bringing his brand of huge Nu-Disco to the track, while respecting the originals flow with a bass heavy groove and moody chords. This is an excellent release from Mr. Jaimeson which is gonna’ make a lot of people sit up and take notice.

[MP3] The Penelopes reMix David Bowie

davidbowie

As the world goes Nile Rodgers crazy and the man takes his long deserved rightful place as the lord and master of all music everywhere, London based French ElectroPoppers The Penelopes turn their attentions to one of Rodger’s most famous productions. Having completely defined the sound of the early 80s, Nile poured all that into David Bowie’s Let’s Dance album and it’s lead single.

The Penelopes do an amazing job of keeping the feel of the record, replacing Niles post-Disco licks with robotic boogie. Loaded up with warbling apreggios and stabbing, retro sounding, synths riding over the perfect funky rendition of the tracks bassline, deep and Moogy, this reMix is a brave endeavour (I mean, who reMixes Bowie well?) but actually pulls it off. The Penelopes rock up to stand shoulder to shoulder with both Bowie and Rodgers and hold their own. Excellent stuff.

[Audio] Grum’s ‘Everytime’

Grum

I swear people don’t get Grum, or at least choose to forget about everything he’s released since Can’t Shake This Feeling. Sure, he made some of the best Dreamwavey-Disco around, but if I hear another person talking about Grum being Disco my head is going to explode. Grum is a talented producer who has never needed to restrict himself to tight niches. For the last year or so he’s been a Euphoric Trance artist, with everyone seemingly to be trying to pretend he wasn’t, and now he’s turned his considerable skills to that rich point in the early 90s in the UK when House was morphing into Rave, in a post-Bleep House world, and captures that freshness, that excitement, in his new tune, Everytime.

So what we have here with Everytime, is a rolling British House beat and intoxicating proto-Rave synth lines. This is a 4am warehouse tune. In a way it’s a kind of UK response to the waves of late 80s/early 90s Chicago House-a-likes currently flooding the dance scene, and as you can hear from the radio rip, Annie Mac’s “really really feeling” it too. Whilst still pretty House oriented, Grum fans who refuse to move on might feel more at home with this new reMix the man has also dropped. It’s for Liverpudlian act Cahill’s Fell The Love. A big piano House monster that’s a bit more MTV than Everytime. Both new tracks are most welcome here, Grum’s been away far too long.
