[MP3] Walter Sobcek’s ‘Milkshake D’Amour’

Walter Sobcek

I think by now we can pretty much assume the Walter Sobcek duo have got a thing for milkshakes, of the romantic kind. The pan-Atlantic duo have been a bit quite in recent months in regard to new tunes, but have released a string of awesome mixtapes, including the Milkshake De Love tape back in February. Which is stunningly similar to the title of their new single, Milkshake D’Amour.

Walter Sobcek have never given up the Dreamwave dream, and this new single just cements their reputation as Dreamwave staples. Floating along on an infectious Italo bassline and wicked Disco licks, the tune weaves an audio tapestry of electric piano, siren synths and breezy beach tones. Add some hushed, passionate and typically Sobcek vocals into the mix and you’ve got a poolside funk tune to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with anything from LA.

[Audio] Kavinsky reMixed by Surkin

kavinsky_thumb

It’s the second reMix to Kavinsky’s forthcoming Odd Look single. We introduced you to A-Trak’s reMix last week and next on the bill it’s fellow Frenchman Surkin. Surkin lends his deep French Electro sound to the originals haunting SynthWave resulting in a pounding slice of robotic emotion.

The chord progression of the original tune is one that is evocative and cinematic, and that plays nicely into Surkin’s hands as he delivers a bassy Electro-House floorfiller with enough raw beats to keep the kids happy and enough humanity to lift their spirits. We can see this one going down a treat at certain gatherings over the summer months. The EP is out soon, along with Kavinsky’s Dead Cruiser mobile game.

[MP3] Cassette Club reMix Cassette Kids

Cassette Kids

Remember Cassette KidsSpin? Australian Indie-ElectroPoppers Cassette Kids were the talk of the town as we entered our second year in existence and Spin, their fifth single rocked 2010. You’ll see in our original piece on the track that we mention a reMix from London’s DiscoPop kings Cassette Club, but the single, when released came with just the Russ Chimes mix. The Cassette Club mix never surfaced. Until now.

Ban and Tom have reached into the vault and pulled out this storming tune that makes us nostalgic for the summer of ‘10 (if it’s actually possible to be nostalgic for three years ago?). This is classic Cassette Club, literally and contains all the sounds that were rocking us back then, and, to be honest, haven’t stopped rocking us. A bouncy ElectroPop/Disco crossover bassline, big lush synths, summery sweeps and that kind of feel-good shoulder-shaking groove that sums up the late 2000’s. Good times, we’re so grateful the guys decided to unleash this gem.

[Audio] Soft Metals’ ‘In The Air’

Soft Metals

Here’s the second single from Portland Minimal Synth Robo-Pop duo Soft Metals’ forthcoming sophomore album, Lenses. We had a taste of what’s to come back in May with the first release, Tell Me, now this new track, In The Air, has us even more eagerly awaiting the new record.

With Glaswegian Electro master JD Twitch providing hypnotic warehouse drum programming ion this one, In The Air nicely mixes up ethereal DreamPop with a gritty Acid House groove. With futuristic pulsating Acid bass and retro, clap laden, House beats In the Air has a dark, strobe lit, quality to it that is tempered only by Patricia’s haunting siren song. Lenses is definitely shaping up to be one of the albums of the year.

[Audio] Garth Knight’s new EP

Cover

One of the top names in the new SynthWave scene is Glaswegian producer Garth Knight, has just released his new EP. Titled, Mandroid, the new record follows on from his slick Goliath album released earlier this year and sees Knight take his rough, cinematic, electronics to ever darker places.

The pulsating, synthesizer soundtrack to some long-forgotten Sci-Fi Horror flick, Mandroid oozes electronic menace as it ploughs though it’s  five tracks. Kicking off with Construction, you can already feel an old school EBM influence infecting Garth Knight’s work as it lays down it’s rapid fire arpeggios and machine beats amidst a sea of haunting and abrasive tones. Escape works a little mid-80s Depeche Mode flavour into the EP with heavy synth bass and ringing chimes that builds up to a droning and evocative finale. The EP’s high energy centrepiece, On The Run once again shows of the EBM styling of the EP, right down to the Industrial purcussion, this is pure Front 242 territory, albeit updated for the SynthWave scene with lush cinematic chords. After the climactic onslaught of On The Run, the rest of the EP delivers a little respite with Sanctuary, a gentle and evocative synth piece where layers of melody wrap themselves around each other, and the EP’s outro, Shut Down a rousing, but ultimately final, cascade of deep synths. All in all, Mandroid is another settling body of work from Garth Knight and at a pay-what-you-like price, can;t really be beat.

[Video] AlunaGeorge’s ‘You Know You Like It’ (take 2)

AlunaGeorge You Know You Like It YouTube

It’s a brand new video for AlunaGeorge’s You Know You Like It. Back in 2011 the You Know You Like It single sported AlunaGeorge’s first proper slick video. Now the single’s got a brand new clip to promote the duo’s forthcoming album Body Work.

The is probably the first basic Pop video the twosome have released, they’re are normally a bit more high-brow than this. This one right here is full-on 90s Pop swing.

AlunaGeorge’s Body Work album is out 29th July.

[MP3] The Penelopes reMix Back Back Forward Punch

Back Back Forward Punch

London based French duo The Penelopes are fast becoming one of the more prolific acts in ElectroPop. You’d have thought after the release of their Never Live Another Yesterday album last summer they would have taken a break, but no. With a constant schedule of touring, monthly mixtapes and a stream of top quality reMixes these guys have just kept the pressure up. Check out their latest offering, it;s a reMix fro Australian DiscoPop duo Back Back Forward Punch, an act we’ve been hearing some good things from in the past few months, and their new single Don’t Stop Now.

The Penelopes bring a bright and airy Disco groove to the track. Something that is both body moving and a heady castle-in-the-air of a track, utilising severely punchy bass and hazy synths to create a dancefloor dreamscape to loose yourself in. But the starlight synths and the half heard swirling sax belie what is a pretty hard hitting floorfiller. The Penelopes have delivered a multi-layered crate essential.
