[MP3] M83 reMixed by Freak You

M83

Brining some old school Bronx beats to your ears right now is French producer and On The Fruit Records godfather Freak You with his officially sanctioned reMix of French Electro-Indie superstar M83’s single Steve McQueen.

Kicking off like an early 80s right on the New York subway, Freak You drops guitar stabs amidst B-boy beats and swirling vocals, easing you into the groove with Sci-Fi synths and rapid clap rolls. Bringing to mind the best experimental period of Electro’s history, Freak Yuo works the Breakin; vibe until he;s ready to get all Juan Aitinks on out asses with a solid House beat and Chicago bassline. This hybrid of Chicago House and New York Electro is exactly the same kind of thing Aitkins was doing with Cybotron, and creating Techno. Freak You brings a similar vibe whilst keeping it soulful.

[Video] Avec Sans’ ‘Hold On’

Avec Sans Hold On YouTube

Earlier last week we introduced you to the new single, Hold On, from one of our favourite acts at the moment, London ElectroPop duo Avec Sans. A big, proper, rush of a Pop song.

Here’s the video that was released the same day, but we didn’t get round to posting it because last week was hell. Directed by Sing J Lee the clip is a nice mixture of stark colours and geometric shapes, showing the band performing, but retaining a little of their mystery.

Avec Sans’ Hold On is our now featuring reMixes from Avec Sans and VS//YOUTHCLUB.

[MP3] Ride The Universe edit-up Analog People In A Digital World

Ride The Universe

Heartbreakers, beat makers and Funky superstars Ride The Universe are dipping into their personal supply of Disco battle weapons to deliver you something special for a limited time only. It’s their edit of the DJ Sneak Mix of Analog People In A Digital World’s 2009 floorfiller Walking In Harlem, in all it’s Acid Jazz, rough House glory.

Playing up both the horn riff and the Acidic burbling, Ride The Universe keep it dancefloor tight. There’s something a little gruffer, a little tougher, and little darkly groovier in Ride The Universe’s edit over the kinda’ flim-flam original. I can imagine these guys dropping this one’s big beats and hypnotic 303 twisting in the middle of a mix set’s the place on fire. Fingers crossed more of their crate will show up soon.

[MP3] Rogue Vogue reMix Follow Me

follow-me_thumb

The week before last we introduced you to the new single from Brooklyn’s Follow Me, Somethin’ ‘Bout You. The track has been reMixed by one of our favourite Chicago House (both a Chicago House producer and a House producer from Chicago) Rogue Vogue. Prepare for some organ jackin’ sounds.

Rogue Vogue has got quite a few few top tunes under his belt with reMixes for the likes of Moon Boots, French Horn Rebellion and Radio INK all doing big things. This new track solidifies his reputation as one of the House producers to watch, perfectly capturing the sound of his city’s past. Working the soulful vocals around a woody bassline and blissful organ riff this one really goes off. One for the white gloves and warehouses.

[Video] Robyn’s ‘U Should Know Better’

Robyn U Should Know Better ft. Snoop Dogg YouTube

Robyn’s U Should Know Better is getting on for three years old now, it was one of the highlights of her 2010 Body Talk Pt. 2 album. It seems pretty tardy releasing the Snoop Dogg (or Lion?) featuring video in 32013, but we’re not going to complain.

It’s a doppelganger fuelled clip that’s funny, smart and put together by Robyn and long tine chorographic collaborator Decida.

Robyn’s Body Talk Pt. 2 is out now.

[Audio] 2CV’s début single

2CV

France’s On The Fruit Records have snapped up the début release from ‘not French’ Paris residents 2CV. Spun out of the club they ran of the same name Guido le Saint & Jus de Veau easily shifted their focus to producing what the like to call “living room Disco”, which we guess means intimate and funky electronic music. Let’s take a look.

The release is a double A-Side single, Bacon and Afrique are both sample heave examples of innovative Nu-Disco. Not tired old 70s grooves and over side-changing here, there’s something a little more interesting going on. Bacon takes it’s inspiration from a rugged guitar sample and builds a Electro Disco framework around that out of warm synth bass, and bright, springy leads. All these elements coalesce to form a floorfiller with a unique enough sound to stand out from the crowd. It’s flipside, well, you might want to be sitting down for this…it’s flipside samples one of the greatest songs of all time, Toto’s Africa. We always say, when you;re tired of Africa, you’re tired of life. Afrique doesn’t go crazy with the Toto sampling, just takeing the bares of hook and using it to underpin a Cosmic track that flirts with the suggestion of old school Rave and Acid House amongst a Spacey, sometimes gritty, but ultimately comfortable dance track that really is designed for a peak-time-lost-in-dance situation.

Pet Shop Boys Vocal YouTube

Pet Shop Boys’ new single and ode to vocal dance music, Vocal, has got itself a nostalgic music video.

Loaded with clips of late 80s raves, this clip is like a document of 1988’s Summer Of Love.

[MP3] Avec Sans’ ‘Hold On’

Avec Sans

Secretly bubbling away in the background, London’s Avec Sans are our next big ElectroPop hope. We’ve been following them with great interest over the past year and really feel that it;s time for them to hit the big time. Perhaps their new single, Hold On, not our 24 hours and already gaining critical acclaim, will be the track to do it.

Rubbing a little ChipTune vibe into their mixture, Avec Sans in equal measures grime up and smooth out their sound. The bitcrushed sounds add a little roughness to their Icy ElectroPop while the song itself, belted out in a passionate performance from Alice, is the cleanest Pop tune the duo have released to date. This combination of gritty electronics and shiny Pop is what’s going to make keeping an eye, or ear, on Avec Sans so exciting. Hold On delivers compelling beats, a swirl of biting synths and a chorus that’ll stick in your head all day. What more could you want?

NIGHT DRIVE DRONES Official Music Video on Vimeo

As previously mentioned, band name aside, new SynthWave duo Night Drive’s ‘Drones’ single is a thing of awesomeness. An energetic slice of Indie tinged retro Pop that has us expecting great things from these two,

Here’s the brand new video for the track, which features an intense array of visuals. Simplistic, but very effective.
