Model

Model are an American duo who brand of abrasive Glitchy Electro-House hides quite a funky groove at it’s core.

Check out their two recent tracks, ‘DanceWorkDanceSex’ and ‘Minuit’, both of which have strains of both Ed Banger electro and 2001 ElectroClash running through their DNA. Chainsaw synths, disenchanted vocals snatches, driving beats and cut up crazy synth work. Throwing everything into the melting pot is these guys style, even working some ChipTune in there, I expect these two will be destroying Electro-House dancefloors next summer.

Cyclist reMixes Gigamesh

gigamesh2

Vancouver based producer Cyclist has just dropped his contribution to the forthcoming collection of reMixes of Gigamesh’s recent self-titled EP.

Cyclist’s take on ‘People’, is a beautiful cacophony of squelchy, slappy, Moogy bass and hammered piano riffs. Cyclist’s solid funk drives the track along like a bass heavy juggernaut. i don’t know why he;s called Cyclist, he should name himself Funk Truck Driver!

♫ Gigamesh (Feat. Nicole Godiva) – People (Cyclist reMix)

The Gigamesh rEMix EP is out 6th December and features work from Moullinex, Fare Soldi, Alexander Holland and Goldroom.

Meridians’ new single

Meridians

Out this week is the brand new single from Meridians. A French duo who are putting their slightly quirky French Touch stamp on ElectroPop.

‘Desert Of Love’ is a sprawling, spacious, epic of a song that utilises so many different elements you wonder how they got it to sound so cohesive. But they did. Morphing effortlessly from Synthwave to Indie-Electro to Nu-Disco and back the track is full of unexpected instrumentation, but amongst all the eclecticness there’s a solid, summery, DiscoPop groove and a catchy tune. the flip side is ‘Cobra’, which is more of a full-on SynthWave/Electro-House soundclash that is both arresting and strangely emotive.

New track from Flashlights

FLASHLIGHTS

Flashlights, who released the awesome ‘Hidden Behind Trees’ EP on Binary earlier this year, have dropped a brand new track.

Taken from the GoldRush Festival artist’s compilation album, their follow up to the EP’s ‘New Hampshire’, ‘New Hampshire Part II’ is more traditional ElectroPop, upbeat and catchy, compared the the atmospheric Chillwave of the original. The track still retains a distant mysteriousness though, but contrasts that with bouncy synths and uplifting retro chords. Lush and swirling ElectroPop at it’s finest, ‘New Hampshire Part II’ is a track that slides into your brain and starts soundtracking your life.

Verona

Verona are an Indie-ElectroPop outfit from Melbourne, Australia. Of course they are. I’m sure some kind of monopolies commission should look into Melbourne’s grip on Indie-ElectroPop, there got to be some anti-trust law that applies!

Joking aside, Verona’s heartfelt take on ElectroPop puts them right up their with their contemporaries. Passionate vocals, kicking beats, driving synths and the slight prescience of Indie guitar all sit together perfectly on ‘Hero’, all the ingredients you need for top a quality Antipodean hit. I wouldn’t be surprised if you hears a lot more from Verona, mostly rocking your local indie dancefloor next summer.

Neonbirds’ ‘Substitutes’ video

Here’s the new video for Neonbirds’ track ‘Substitutes’.

The Parisian duo’s abrasive (yet amazingly catchy) ElectroPop is highlighted here by a suitably disorienting video.

‘Substitutes’  is taken from ‘Ignition’s Cold, Oxygen’s Pale’, out this week.

Rumor

rumor

Rumor is UK House producer Chris White who mainly drops tunes of the Progressive or Tech persuasion. Now, I’m not usually a massive fan of Prog or Tech (especially Tech) but Chris’ tracks have somehow wormed their way into my brain. And if two Englishmen can’t find common ground over the fact that they both spell ‘rumor’ like Americans, then the terrorists have won.

I’ve picked the two standout original tunes for me, ‘Glow’ and ‘Dirty Hands’. It’s all about the deep groove round Rumor’s way, hypnotic and beautiful, like an audio black hole, drawing you in, and possible destroying you at the same time. ‘Glow’ is a late night jam for darkened dancefloors with killer percussion and the deepest of Deep House hooks, while ‘Dirty Hands’ is like a smooth cyborg juggernaut, as soulful as it is menacing.

Happy Hunting

Happy Hunting

The mysterious and enigmatic Happy Hunting recently released their début EP, ‘Pitchblack, containing four tracks of interesting and involving art Pop.

This London based Duo manage to walk the thin line (if there is a thin line there?) between haunting and catchy. Although not quite Shoegaze-esque wall-of-sound, Happy Haunting’s eclectic and experimental strain of Indie-Electro is, at times, more soundscape than song, but a sweet and soulful vocal always seems to keep the tracks in line. The end result is a collection of songs that are both indicate, complex music labyrinths and infections Pop tunes. ‘Pitchblack’ is a pretty impressive début.
