[Audio] Fear Of Tigers reMixes A*M*E

A-M-E

There’s definitely something going on at camp Fear Of Tigers. First we get a new track last month, Golden Age, now an official reMix for hotly tipped songstress A*M*E’s new single Heartless. All this new activity gives us hopes for the long awaited release of Fear Of Tigers’ Hypnerotomachia Poliphiliout, the follow up to 2009’s Cossus Snufsigalonica.

This reMix is pure classic Fear Of Tigers too. Epic, emotional, nostalgic ElectroPop full of those big chords and intricate electronic flourishes that we love FoT for. Taking A*M*E’s R&B flavoured tune and turning it into a huge 80s Power Pop synth epic is no mean feat, but Fear Of Tigers pulls it off with style. This tune is big.

[Audio] Worship’s new EP

Worship

Out this week on ‘the ever-awesome Holographic People’ is the long awaited new EP from Swiss SynthWaver Worship. His first release since last September’s Horizon reMixes, this new EP represents a new batch of original tunes, which is what we want from Worship really. So expect a ton of cosmic, otherworldly, synth boogie journeys and Worship guides us through the whopping seven tracks of his new release.

The Close Encounter EP begins it’s mighty quest with the track of the same name, an arpeggio fuelled modern Italo tune that really launches the EP with a full-on energy vibe. Bright sounds and a groove that takes us back to the resurgence of melodic Electro a few years ago, Close Encounter really sets up the EP. Island Disco sounds infiltrate the EP on the following track, Alpha Centauri, working the rhythm alongside lush Tropical sounds. Orion Forever is a reworking of last years Forever Orion with added big buzzy synths and a tempo supercharge. Definitely one of the EPs highlights with a really infectious groove. First Light gives the EP a smooth, laid back SynthWave mid-point before launching into Last Words, a rich, melodic, excursion into fantastical synthetic places. A place where music for your mind, and music for your feet, meet and you get lost in the swirl of synths. The EP rounds out with the pretty standard Nu-Disco Odyssey and a Cosmic Disco workout of Orion Forever from Auxiliary Tha Masterfader. Close Encounter is a release loaded with space-age Disco sound, and one could do a lot worst than pick up.

[MP3] Giorgio Moroder’s ‘Racer’

Giorgio Moroder

Have you been watching the Google I/O Keynote speech? Unless you’re a big old nerd like us, probably not watching a live stream of a developer conference. But if you have, you’d have seen the demonstration of Racer, a cross platform Chrome experiment. A slot racing game with an interesting soundtrack, it’s scored by Italo Disco legend. Mr. Giorgio Moroder.

Racer, named after the game itself, is a pounding SynthWave stormer. Loaded with hard hitting basslines and warbling leads. A driving force that lives up to it’s title, Racer is a high octane collision of euphoric leads and growling bass accompanied by melodic vocoding. Written for a racing game, the track has all the energy and excitement to keep the mood going. (Also, yes we’re using out favourite Moroder picture again, ‘cos it’s amazing).

[Audio] Hemingway’s ‘Ace Neptune’

Hemingway

In Nu-Disco circles the début release from Toronto’s Hemingway could be considered quite long awaited. The guy’s built up quite a reputation for himself over the past year or so with a string of excellent reMixes. Now his première release is out, via Brilliantine, and having had it on rotation round electronic rumors HQ for the past couple of weeks we can definitely say it’s lived up to it’s promise.

Ace Neptune is the name of Hemingway’s single, and it’s a veritable Smörgåsbord of dreamy synthesizer Funk. There’s something interestingly proggy about Ace Neptune, there’s a definitely Cosmic vibe to it and you can imagine Hemingway surrounded by tiers of analog snyths, eyes tightly shut, generally having a synth freak out. The track takes elements from Nu-Disco, Dreamwave, SynthWave and Italo and constructs an epic built upon layer and layers of intertwining melodies and warping Galactic Funk basslines. Deceptively complex, this is a true synth Disco fan’s track. reMixes come correct from Jokers Of The Scene and this gem from Cyclist, who ups the Funk quota and leads the track from the space-station to an under-lit dancefloor to boogie the night away. Frantic Disco licks and slinky synths are the order of the day in this mix. Ace Neptune is a confident and impressive début, and one that should have Hemingway’s name on people lips.

[MP3] Wolf Saga reMixes Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea

Sometimes reMixes are all the same. A Nu-Disco producer reMixing a Nu-Disco producer, you can guess what the results are. But sometimes a cross genre reMix comes along when the reMixing producer completely makes the song their own and take it in directions that are miles away from where it started, yet sound like it was always meant to be. Catch a listen to Canadian Chillwaver Wolf Saga’s reMix of Iggy Azalea current single, Work, and see what we mean.

How this works we’re not sure, but it does, perfectly. Work now sounds like it was always supposed to be an epic 80s synth Power Ballad and Iggy’s flow doesn’t, in the slightest, feel lout of place there. Lyrically Work is quite a story, and Wolf Saga teases a real emotional resonance out of it with layers of cinematic synths and pulsating bass notes. We can’t understate how much this reMix surprisingly works, so well, you can;t help but be drawn into it.

[Audio] Tommy’s new EP

Tommy

French atmospheric SynthWave producer extraordinaire Tommy has signed on with that staple of retro synth music Girlfriend Records. We can’t think of a better match. GFR have long been on the front-line of SynthWave and have carved a name out for themselves that demands you pay attention to their releases, and Tommy, being one of the leading lights of the SynthWave scene, is a perfect addition to their stable.

The new release, High Fidelity, is five tracks of soaring synthetic goodness. The EP show a versatility to Tommy’s work, with tracks ranging from pure soundtrack Outrun Electro, to more groovy SynthWave, to luscious electronic ballads. The track on the release feel like a maturing of Tommy sound post-Outer Space Adventurer. There something a little more thoughtful, and a little more encompassing of a wider range of influences and emotional moods on this record. Amongst the EP’s flowing journey, highlights include the opener, Tommy’s Theme, which is a tour-de-force in melodic soloing. If you like your epic synth solos then this tune will make you very happy indeed. Set to a swirling synthetic mood, Tommy lets rip and teats us to an evolving electronic conversation. The EP’s title track, High Fidelity, is Tommy at his driving best. An arpeggio fuelled monster that lulls you into a false sense of Outrun security before launching a barrage of emotional chords and melodies at you. With a little Disco swing introduced at the mid-point, High Fidelity is the EPs energetic pinnacle, and Test Drive, a track that is such pure SynthWave as to set the bar for those that follow. With a Kavinsky flavour, Test Drive, growls it;s way though four minutes of asphalt churning, melodic madness. Tommy has really delivered the goods with his new EP, making him, more than ever, one to watch.

[Audio] Miami Nights 1984’s ‘Deep Blue’

Miami Nights 1984

Deep Blue is the new track from the panicle of SynthWave talent Miami Nights 1984. The first hint of what’s to come on his forthcoming album shows the Outrun king isn’t just a one trick pony, or even a two trick pony as MN84 gets out his synth brushes and paints a gloriously rich electronic masterpiece to take the listener away.

The opening track on the new record, Deep Blue is a chilled, evocative piece that is content to build the mood for a good half of it’s length, wrapping you in it’s layers of warn synths and an electronic nostalgia that feels utterly authentic as the soundtrack to a quieter moment in an 80s flick. Once it has you in it;s grasp, Deep Blue unleashes a choir of intertwining and emotional solos which really allow the track to soar out of the speakers. More please.

[MP3] The Other Tribe reMixed by Ryan Riot

The-Other-Tribe

Making us proud since last summer is Bristol’s The Other Tribe, who have had their recent free single We Should Be Dancing reMixed by one of Switzerland’s top Nu-Disco producers, Ryan Riot. Here he takes a lot tougher approach than we would expect from him with an almost EBM bassline and machine beats.

Really pumping up the originals bassline and washing it in militaristic synths, Ryan Riot brings a new aggressive groove to the track. It’s a track that compels you to the dancefloor, and you don;t want to think about the consequences if you don’t, which is fitting for the song’s content. Riot goes big with everything on this track, big bass, big beats and big sweeping synths. Rocking the originals purcussion to it’s fullest, this is one reMix for peak time when the crowd won’t know what hit them.

[Audio] Sferro’s new EP

sferrocover19

One of the many highlights of this musical week has been the release of the new EP from Girlfriend Records main man, Sferro. Not only has he released a beautiful five tracks of synth gold, but he’s also placed his fate in your hands with a pay-what-you-like price for the EP. I suppose, if you were a genuinely terrible person, that could mean you could pick it up for free, but we suggest slipping a few buck in the direction of someone pouring their digital heart out is the least you could do. No judgement. Or a lot of judgement. Whatever.

Wetware Computer is the name of the EP, which is all very William Gibson (there’s even a track called the tried and tested High Tech Low Life), a theme which carries over into the music. Four tacks (and a reMix) which deliver on the promise of soundtracking a dystopian, urban, dark future and a technological singularity. Autonomous Robot kicks off the EP, a steady and majestic introduction. An undulating synthetic chorus set to a machine beat that leads into the slightly more human Intelligent Systems. Intelligent Systems brings a little Boogie to this cold, cyborg collection, warming up proceedings with a laid back synth Funk bass and infectious hook. Wetware Computer follows, eschewing the dancefloor in favour of providing a haunting musical interlude. Sounding a little like 80s UK Sci-Fi TV themes (which is a compliment BTW) Wetware Computer layers, thick, rich and piercing sounds to create an intriguing, emotionally resonant, package of intertwining melodies. The aforementioned High tech Low Life comes next, and fittingly sounds a little like late 80s EBM, all steady pounding rhythms and buzzing synths. This is tempered with a hypnotic, shining melody that acts as a nice counterbalance. The EP rounds off with a reMix of Autonomous Robot by French SynthWaver Tommy, who turns in a galactic oddessy of a tune with some really interesting use of instrumentation and a full, encompassing, sound. We should make not of the fact that a few of the tracks on the EP are followed by reveres snippets of something or other. Honestly, we haven’t had the time to load them up in an audio editor and play them backward, but I’m sure they’ll turn out to be a ‘thing’. I guess we’ll have to wait an see, in the meantime go and check out this quality EP.
