[Audio] Cut Copy’s ‘Free Your Mind’

Following on from the last taste we had of Australian Indie-ElectroPoppers Cut Copy’s long awaited new album, Let Me Show You, Modular have announced the albums title and dropped the record’s lead track. The album is due out on November and will be titled, Free Your Mind. Here’s the title track.

What does Free Your Mind sound like? Well, pretty much late 80s/early 90s Indie-Dance, it’s almost pure House influenced Madchaster. Baggy jeaned, floppy haired and ‘avin it large. Frantic live drums, classic House piano, big diva backing vocals, Rave whoops, a Chicago influenced bassline, burbling Acid synths and uplifting Beatles-esque choruses. Any of this sounding familiar? It’s an excellently executed revival of the sound and one Cut Copy still injects their personality into. Exciting stuff.

[Video] Anoraak’s ‘Morning Light’

Here’s the new track from SynthWave pioneers Anoraak, adding more of an Indie-ElectroPop vibe to their tunes, Morning Light is a catchy Pop track that promises good things from their forthcoming new album, Chronotropic.

Directed by Ben Chadourne, the clip follows the antics of skater, Julien Bechet around Paris.

Anoraak’s Chronotropic album is released 21st October.

[Audio] Strangers’ ‘Don’t Lie To Me’

Last week we wrote a little something about London SynthPoppers Strangers’ cover of Arctic Monkeys’ Why’d You Only Call Me When Your High?, a free download that we mentioned was September’s instalment in Strangers’ free-track-every-month-until-X-mas effort. That was a massive lie, because here, three days later, is September’s actual free track, Don’t Lie To Me. What can we learn from this? Strangers never sleep, that’s what.

Don’t Lie To Me is Strangers hitting going gritty. It’s a dark, sleazy tune in the tradition of the best 80s SynthPop. Pounding Industrial beats, growling bass synths and screaming drones make up the soundtrack as David delivers his vocals with an undercurrent of Dave Gahan-esque aggression. In fact, this is the most Depeche Mode-like tune from Strangers to date, and that’s no bad thing, especially as with their contemporary influences and David’s unique voice the cam take the DM sound and really make it their own.

[MP3] Hey Champ’s ‘On Holiday’

Chicago’s greatest Electro-DiscoPop outfit Hey Champ have been steadily releasing some sweet tunes this year, which we’re hoping is a sign there might be a new album on the way. The latest track, On Holiday, is particularly poignant for us as this is electronic rumors last day posting for a week or so as we’re off on a holiday of our own.

Once again featuring the vocals of fellow Chicagoan songstress BeuKes, On Holiday is a breezy Tropical tune that speaks of good times. A big stabbing riff runs over some lush, sweeping synths and a pumping bassline while the purcussion goes into serious island mode. The vocals hazily beckon you to fun in the sun and lazy days by the pool making this one your new soundtrack to the next batch of warmer weather. Hey Champ are knocking it out of the park these days, can’t wait for more.

[Audio] Empire Of the Sun’s ‘DNA’ reMixed by Alex Metric

The next single from Australian ElectroPop characters Empire Of the Sun’s second album, Ice On The Dune, is DNA. The big-synthed anthem is due out later this month and comes stuff full of huge reMix from the likes of Calvin Harris, Brodinski and Alex Metric. The latter of whom has uploaded his version to his SoundCloud page so we can all grab a tasty advance listen.

The original’s massive ElectroPop is somewhat tempered, and reined in by Metric, instead he concentrates on creating a smooth vibe. It’s an almost Dreamwave mood this reMix has got, that’s counterpointed with a compelling dancefloor beat, making it both a call-to-dance and something enriching for your emotions. This one should definitely be in everyone crate, it’s a proper weapon.

[Audio] Oxford reMixes Portland’s ‘Deezy Daisy’

We’re kind of in two minds about French Indie-ElectroPoppers Portland’s new single. Deezy Daisy out later this month on Kitsuné Music, isn’t quite as good as their début a single, You Don’t Know Me but it is really infectious. Some of it is a little indie for our liking, but when it hit’s it’s DiscoPop stride it’s pretty special. Anyway, one of the many reMixes supplied on the single comes from one of our favourite French producers, Oxford. Where Oxford is concerned, you go into things expecting slick, laid back Disco bass, and that’s what you get.

Oxford does what Oxford does best, create a walking Disco groove, lolloping along over a funk-laden bassline. Washing the track with a floating piano hook and chirpy little synth riffs Oxford build and builds on the vibes until he drops it and brings it all back with some shimmering synth leads. Portland’s Lily Pejon had the perfect voice for this mood, a sultry half-whisper that just adds to the mysterious, smokey, irresistible funk.

[Audio] Earl Grey reMixes Decibels’ ‘Regulator/Moderator’

British Electro-Art-Poppers Decibels continue to plunder the rich treasures of the UK Nu-Disco and House worlds for reMix talent as this week they released their new single, Regulator/Moderator, whose list of reMixers reads like a whos who is the movers and shakers on the scene. Alongside work from the likes of Bufi, Tronik Youth and Discotexas head honcho Mr. Mitsuhirato and MiGHty mOUse comes this huge tune from Earl Grey. Hold tight!

Mr. Ashenden dives head first into left-field House with his work on this one. Playfully weaving a track around a pulsating bass beat, that gets kinda’ hypnotic by the end of the tune, the Earl of Grey braps out with intertwining waves of synth effects and snatched melodies. The Slo-Mo tempo carries over to the modulated vocals, taking on an almost eerie quality while the track transfixes you for it’s four and a half minute duration.

[Video] Holy Models’ ‘Swimming’

It always weird us out when labels release a track’s video after the song is out, seems to defeat the point of using it to build excitement for the release. Oh well, we guess Eskimo Recordings have a plan as they have just premiered the video for Australian trio Holy Models’ laid back Tropical Swimming single.

The video is suitably trippy and psychedelic, but with a nice chilled, summery, thread running throughout.

[Video] Douglas J. McCarthy’s ‘Moving On’

Here’s the new video from Nitzer Ebb frontman, the unmistakable Douglas J. McCarthy. Move On is taken from McCarthy’s recent solo long player Kill Your Friends. It’s one of the groovier, bluesier, tracks on the record, but no less abrasive.

Stevenler Paulinger directs the clip, a nice atmospheric slice of Americana with a futuristic blues vibe to match the track.

[Audio] Grum’s reMix of The Other Tribe’s ‘My Girl’

We’ve been waiting for this one for a while. We’re big fans of both Bristol Indie-Elector rabble rousers The Other Tribe and Grum, who been one of our favourite producers for the past few years, so when we heard Grum was reMixing The Other Tribe’s new single, My Girl, we were eager to get our ears round it. The track was premièred by B Traits on Friday on BBC Radio 1 with us excitedly listening.

And we weren’t disappointed. Grum mixes up a little of his old style retro Dreamwave with his new big-room grooves on this one, which works nicely with the vocals. A collision of tough beats and piercing, infectious, melodies that drill into your brain, Grum’s reMix is one of those that’s that is going to give you goosebumps whenever it is dropped, just let the uplifting synths wash over you.. Dancefloor euphoria mixed with a catchy song, what more could you ask for?
