[Audio] Chvrches cover Bauhaus’ ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’

Chvrches

Chvrches seem to love a good cover, and why not. They’ve been given the opportunity for another one in the form of their contribution to the soundtrack of forthcoming movie Vampire Academy; which looks, frankly, fucking awful. Still, any excuse, eh? So Chvrches have covered Bauhaus’ Bela Lugosi’s Dead. Didn’t see that one coming, makes sense though. Check out Chvrches injecting a rousing Pop sheen into the Batcave classic.

Appearing to upset Goths left, right and centre, Churches blend the instantly recognisable bassline in with growling synths and bubbling arpeggios Lauren’s take on the vocals gives them a new, anthemic, spin and is soon joined by waves of euphoric synths. It’s very soundtrack-y (obviously), you can almost imaging the scene this will accompany. We reckon Chvrches did a pretty good job with this one, even if the black-clad masses appear to disagree.

[Download] Bright Light Bright Light & Ana Matronic cover Pet Shop Boys’ ‘West End Girls’

BLAna

Here’s a nice surprise for the start of the week. One of the UK’s leading SynthPop artists Bright Light Bright Light teaming up with Scissor SistersAna Matronic to cover Pet Shop Boys classic West End Girls. Premièred last week live in NYC for the Hetrick-Martin Institute Benefit the track is now available as a free download, so get it while it’s hot.

Loads of people have covered West End Girls. Like loads. But very few have been able to keep the sombre, deadpan angle of the track intact. BLx2 and Ana Matronic manage to pull this off triumphantly. Rod injects his flair for 90s dance into the track with popping beats, shiny synths and some subtly 909 snare rolls. Their vocals are surprisingly complementary too, with Ana handling most of the verse action, joined by Rod for the choruses, being true to the original but giving it a twist with their own personalities. A very good job indeed.

[Audio] Paperwhite reMixes Fickle Friends’ ‘Swim’

Fickle Friends

A big shout out to Breaking More Waves for turning us on to this one, and it’s right up our street. Fickle Friends are a UK IndiePop outfit whos début single, Swim, has been making quite stir on blogs who like a bit of jangly guitar. From the sound of it we expect them to be festival faves over the coming summer. What we’ve got here, though, is a reMix of the track from Brooklyn DreamPop duo Paperwhite, who do things to the song that come straight from our dreams.

Thick 80s Pop beats, with a hint of a B-boy groove, matched up with popping, summery synths and rich pads. The vocals sound like they were always meant for ElectroPop, the whole package is just pretty stunning. Energetic ElectroPop with just the right amount of nostalgia and just the right amount of swing. This tune has been played to death here in the last 48 hours, and we’re still nowhere close to getting bored of it, it’s got a classic sound that I don’t think we’d ever tire of. Definitely keeping a massive beady eye on Paperwhite from now on.

[Download] Digitalism’s ‘Fahrenheit 32’

Dgtlsm

Fahrenheit 32 is the new tune from acclaimed German duo Digitalism, and according to them the start of a new era. “‘Fahrenheit 32’ marks a new direction for us both musically and creatively. It’s not just a milestone on a long journey of ours, but also a peace offering for what’s about to come.” they say, which kinda’ mean ‘we’re making House now’, and if this new tune is anything to go by it’s gonna’ be an awesome time for new music from Digitalism.

Just check out that bassline! Infectious as hell. Fahrenheit 32 is a pretty progressive tune that is well suited to the big room, despite lacking the big lead builds. It’s be more accurate to call it an ‘intelligent big room tune’. Fun and carefree, but with a serious concentration on sound design, the tune will win you over with it’s catchy hooks and kinetic House beats. More like this please guys!

[Audio] Cyclist reMixes Rogue Vogue & Patrick Baker’s ‘Until The Dawn’

rogue-vogue

We’ve already heard both the original, and the slick reMix from Bronx, of Chicago’s Chicago House master Rogue Vogue’s Until The Dawn. Now the Patrick Baker featuring anthem has been given a stunning workout by Canadian synth Disco guru Cyclist. Prepare for the clean House sounds of Rogue Vogue to be transformed into some dirty, raw, Disco grooves.

Thick synth bass and squelchy keys drift through the track, dragging the tune with them on a journey of slick retro dancefloor sounds meets analog funk. Patrick’s vocals feel right at home among the warm vintage  sound pallet. There’s tons of Boogie in this track too, the 80s Pop bassline and snappy purcussion see to that, and it gives the track a nostalgic flavour, like a half remembered tune from your youth, and a compelling call-to-dance. Get involved!

[Audio] Com Truise’s ‘Subsonic’

Com Truise

Following Declination, Ghostly International have posted another track from SynthWaver supreme Com Truise’s forthcoming Wave 1 EP. To our surprise it happens to be Subsonic. Subsonic is a track that first reared it’s head around late 2012, it was featured on Truise’s Komputer Cast Vol. 6 podcast and we’d thought had since been long forgotten. It’s pretty awesome news that we’ll soon be able to pick up the full version of the track.

It’s four and a half minutes of pure Com Truise. Retro futuristic waves of vintage synth sounds. An electronic soundtrack to a dark future melded with shuffling urban rhythms and twisting keys. With one foot in 80s Sci-Fi soundtracks and the other in old school Hip Hop, Truise crafts blissful synthetic soundscapes with an underlying funk. Frankly, all music could sound like this and we’d be pretty happy about it.

[Audio] Sharooz’s ‘Terminvs’

Sharooz

Terminvs is London based TurboFunk producer Sharooz’s foray into post-EBM, post-Gesaffelstein Techno. All the cool kids are doing it these days, so why not. While the tunes might not be as intoxicating and dirty Disco, it can be a lot more fun to make, if you like brapping out with synths that is. And from the sound of Terminvs, Sharooz definitely does.

Amidst the ringing, occasionally dissonant, electronic mayhem, Sharooz actually lays down an utterly infectious Teutonic groove. A 242-esque bassline and some old school House drums keep the track more than interesting, giving the track a late 80s Acid House undercurrent. If fact, if you tune out the Industrial purcussion and synth brap you’re left with quite a classic sounding warehouse jam. A tune with a surprising number of levels.
