[Mixtape] Tensnake, Little Boots, Goldroom & Le Youth in Mixmag’s Lab

LITTLE BOOTS disco house set in The Lab LA YouTube

For today’s mixtape offering we’re presenting something a little different. Mixmag’s In The Lab videos on YouTube have been smashing it recently. You don’t have to sit there for an hour watching someone mixing (unless you really want to). Just stick them on your big TV and listen to them like you would any other mixtape, only now you get to occasionally glance across at the little DJ playing live in the corner of your room.

We’ve got three for your here, all three we really enjoyed and can highly recommend, especially for pre-going out this weekend revelries. Check out recent live sets from Tensnake, in Mixmag’s London Lab, along with Little Boots and Goldroom & Le Youth B2B from Their Lab in LA.

We’re massive fans of both German retro House overlord Tensnake and his record label True Romance. Shocking revelation; we know! We eagerly look forward to releases from both, and when they are together it’s something switch on your ‘email me when it’s released’ notification on Juno for so you can get that vinyl ASAP. The new release will be Keep On Talking, which we have already been grooving to for a bit; back with this new tune, premièred at Mixmag, titled The Walk.

The Walk rumbles along on a propulsive bassline after the introduction of meticulously synthesized drums and Balearic percussion. This one is a pure joyous House tune, with no pretentions other that making the crowd loose themselves on the dancefloor. Snappy snares and irresistible retro-hooks offer up a megaton slab of classic House with a pitch perfect build. Timeless and unshakably funky; The Walk feels like a solid, workhorse, crate filler.

After a couple of years of releasing rock solid tracks and reMixes, last year German retro-House producer Marco Niemerski A.K.A. Tensnake dropped his début album, Glow, which, for our money, is easily one of the finest releases of the decade; narrowly coming runner up in our favourite albums of 2014 (had the number one album not existed Glow would have had no competition for the top spot). We weren’t expecting follow up material so soon, but this week the man announced his new single, a double A-side consisting of Keep On Talking and The Walk to be released in June on how own label (and one of our favourite vinyl leaning labels right now) True Romance. Give Keep On Talking a listen.

Led by a woozy electric organ riff, Keep On Talking lays on the Boogie thick with a rubbery synth bassline boinging (yup, ‘boinging’) up and down through reigning in the extravagant lead hook. A buoyant summery House tune, Tensnake works his usual skills in effortlessly blending a retro vibe with upfront dance sounds. As with most of the man’s tunes, fun is that main factor here, it’s an exhilarating nostalgic floorfiller which works those Roland non-808/909 drum machines to their fullest. Dipping and building in just the right places, expect to hear Keep On Talking on a few floors this summer.

[Audio] Joe Goddard reMixes Tensnake and Jacques Lu Cont’s ‘Feel Of Love’

tensnake

German retro House producer Tensnake’s sublime début album, Glow, is currently holding at number two on our top albums of the year list, beating some severe competition, and shows no signs of being usurped in it’s runner up position. It’s an amazing record packed full of highlights, one of them being his collaboration with the legend Jacques Lu Cont and Jamie Lidell; Feel Of Love. The track is getting a full single release next month with some storming reMixes, one of which you can check out below, it’s a doozy!

Hot Chip and The 2 Bears’ Joe Goddard takes up the challenge of making one of this year’s soulful House classics his own; and does. This one is an eight minute epic that wastes none of it’s time. From the offset with track begins to build an intricate analog groove, deep beats layering with buzzing synths. Easing the original’s vocals into the tune, Goddard give you half the track’s length to settle into the vibe before launching into a massive, hands-in-the-air, synthesizer symphony that never drops the energy ball.

One of the best albums of the year so far has come from German nostalgic House producer Tensnake with his début LP Glow. And one of the highlights (on an album full of highlights) is the Jacques Lu Cont and Jamie Lidell featuring Feel Of Love. The track is getting the single treatment next month and ahead of the release check out the wonderfully weird video.

Directed by Remy Cayuela, the clip features an army of soon-to-be-disappointed sperm in training for the big day.

[Audio] Tensnake reMixes London Grammar’s ‘Hey Now’

london grammar

German Housemeister Tensnake is on top of the world right now, and it’s good timing too as he’s gearing up for the release of his début album, Glow, which, from what we’ve heard, is going to sound awesome. Keeping up the energy until the record’s release Tensnake presents his latest reMix. It’s a mix of UK Indie-ElectroPop darlings London Grammar’s new single (and arguable their most recognisable song), Hey Now, and it’s pretty special.

Holding on to the London Grammar original’s guitar work, Tensnake merges their Indie sensibilities with his own warm and funky House vibes to create something that sounds almost Post Punk-y. An undulating and ethereal into soon gives way to a cascade of retro-tinged dancefloor sounds and Hannah Reid’s dreamy vocal. Rich and enveloping, this reMix is a little different from the norm, but a stunning piece of work.

It’s another new track from German Housemeister Tensnake’s forthoming début album, Glow. This time he’s wading into another collaboration, here with the legendary Jacques Lu Cont and Mr. Jamie Lidell. Following the Nile Rodgers and Fiora featuring Love Sublime is a hard act to follow; but Feel Of Love pulls it off with style.

A nice bridge between Tensnake’s House groove and Jacques more Les Rythmes Digitales 80s sound, the track kicks off with lunch retro keys and a springy bassline mixing it up with some solid House beats. The track soon descends into vintage Pop awesomeness with Lidell giving it his best soulful Prince-vibes. Many headliner collaborations don;t always end up being as exciting as the sum of their parts would suggest, but this one really doesn’t. Exciting, driving, pure Pop. Unexpected but most welcome.

[Audio] Tensnake reMixes Duke Dumont’s ‘I Got U’

duke-dumont

In exchange for the remix of Tensnake’s Love Sublime by London based Disco breakout star Duke Dumont, the German Housemeister has in turn’s performed reMix duties on Dumont’s forthcoming new single I Got U. The track features Jax Jones on vocals and has been making some serious waves since it premièred in December. Tensnake gives it a serious House workout.

We can imagine this one being big over the summer, over festival season. It’s got that big, hypnotic, crowd pleasing House sound. Bass heavy and relentless whilst still keeping the original’s groove. A robotic funk jam, riding on a monster synth bass and a Chicago beat. Just the kind of tune to loose yourself to in a field somewhere.
