[Audio] Patrick Baker’s new single

Patrick Baker

Amazing Retro Pop artist Patrick Baker is gearing up for the release of his début single. Released next month, Get 2 Know U is actually the first track of Patrick’s we featured on electronic rumors, back in June last year, and now it’s getting a proper release, backed with a pretty special reMix package, in anticipation of Baker’s album release later this year.  Televisor Jolie Cherie

You’ve probably heard Get 2 Know U by now, it’s a lush slice of 80s Americana. when we first wrote about it we commented that Patrick baker is to American 80s Pop what Kid Kasio is to British 80s Pop, and that’s true. Patrick authentically creates a nostalgic vision of the US charts in the great decade. Get 2 Know U is a catchy, upbeat slab of ElectroPop. Fun and funky, what more could you want? reMixes come from Robots With Rayguns with a deep, west coast, Pop mix, Televisor, who inject the track with a summery, beach-party, vibe and lends Get 2 Know U some Nu-Disco flair, and France’s Jolie Cherie, who turn in a relaxed, spacey, Disco tinged ElectroPop mix that has a nice warm sound to round of the single. We’re so pleased Patrick is starting to release stuff properly and predict big things from this guy.

[Audio] Monsieur Adi reMixes Phildel

Phildel

Here’s a brand new reMix from the world’s most underrated producer Monsieur Adi. The Frenchman is tackling the new single from up-and-coming British artist Phildel. Phidel is a London based singer/songwriter who is about to release her second single, Beside You, at the end of the month, and Adi gives the track a typically bombastic makeover.

Powerful is the best word to describe this track. You’ll know by now that Adi has a flair for big, cinematic, sounds, which he works in to this, initially gently, track. Heavy, industrial, beats pin the track down while Adi’s rousing orchestration and thickly layered synths raise it up to it’s dramatic climax. Phidel’s sweet voice could have easily got lost amongst the epicenes, but Monsieur Adi deftly handles the vocals, allowing just the right amount of space in the track. Another classic mix from Adi.

[MP3] Sally Shapiro & Electric Youth

Sally Shapiro

Sally Shapiro are well on their way to the release of their third album, Somewhere Else, now. The idea of another whole record of Sally’s blissful vocals and Johan’s shiny beats is totally exciting, but that’s now all, the album contains contributions from Anoraak, Le Prix and this tune, the second single from the album featuring Canada’s finest retro Poppers Electric Youth.

Starman is a particularly deep and dreamy slick of these guys ScandiPop. Sally is at her hushed-Saint-Etienne best, and being backed by the vintage tones of Electric Youth’s Bronwyn, cast a beautiful vocal net. A totally compelling voice in electronic music, Sally has found the perfect music partner in Johan, who knows exactly how to deliver sweeping, passionate synth music, with a subtle 60s twist, that suits her just right. Cannot wait for the album.

Sally Shapiro (Feat. Electric Youth) – Starman (Radio Edit)

Starman is released 29th January and features a reMix from electronic rumors faves Miami Nights 1984. Sally Shapiro’s Somewhere Else album is released next month on Paper Bag Recordings.

[MP3] New Arcades’ ‘Into The Skyline’

new-arcades_thumb

Here’s the new one from London ElectroPoppers New Arcades. You might recall we featured them for the first time early last month (or late last year, depending on how you want to view it), and here they are again, so soon. Their new track is more of their epic ElectroPop. Catchy, uplifting and anthemic.

Into The Skyline strikes us as having a hint of The Sound Of Arrows about it, but somehow less Sweedish, more English. There’s a London grit to these guys retro Pop. Amongst their shiny electronic Pop there a kind of urban cool. Their most accomplished tune to date, Into The Skyline is a real sing-a-long track, one you can tell would go down a treat live. Passionate vocals, a big synth hook, stomping beats and attention to melody. New Arcades have hit all the right notes with this one.

[MP3] Leisure Council edit up The S.O.S. Band

The S.O.S. Band

LA smooth groove kings Leisure Council are back with this little edit they’ve whipped up of The S.O.S. Band’s classic High Hopes. The track’s got a killer proto-boogie bassline, which makes it prefect fodder for a modern dancefloor retouch, and Nicky, Jeremy & Sam seriously deliver the goods.

Keeping true to the original, this edit is slick and sexy all the way. A bit more emphasis is placed on that bassline, the bests are beefed up a bit, taking on a B-Boy swing, all kept in touch with the tracks soulful vocal. Edits should be all about making older tunes fit on todays dancefloors, and Leisure Council have done just that right here. Hot summer nights vibes all round.

[MP3] Jody Wisternoff’s ‘Feels Like Yesterday’

Bristol dance music legend, both solo and as half of Way Out West, Jody Wisternoff dropped a new track this week. An unreleased tune from the recording of his Trails We Blaze album of last year. It’s a storming addition to the record, and it’s free, and it’s called Feels Like Yesterday.

Bringing together a solid Progressive vibe with a tiny nit of a Disco swing in the use of the breakbeat, Feels Like Yesterday is an intoxicating rush of emotional electronics. Gently pads and haunting piano are contrasted with a pounding rhythm to generate a euphoric, sunrise experience. Drawing you in with it’s synthetic beauty, Feels Like Yesterday soon leads you down a road toward a full-on synth wig-out. Captivating stuff.

[MP3] Cavaliers Of Fun reMix Young Digerati

Young Digerati

So, it would appear that LA based Dreamwavers Young Digerati are no more. I’m not sure when (or if) this was announced, but according to the blurb with the latest reMix from Cavaliers Of Fun, that’s the facts. Which is a pity, Young Digerati had a lot going for them but never really seem to hit their stride as far as releasing material went. I get the feeling there was some bad management in the mix too. They shall be missed.

What we are left with, though, is this reMix Cavaliers Of Fun did of unreleased track Aquiel, and it’s a beautiful send off for the guys. Cavaliers Of Fun delivers a Cosmic Dreamwave blissfest. Who says electronic music isn’t emotional? No-one who’s heard Cavaliers Of Fun’s gently, nuanced work on this track, that’s for sure. Bouncy basslines play side-by-side with intricate melodies and smooth, heartfelt solos, creating a track that moves your feet and your soul (if that existed).  Young Digetati’s song, an uplifting summery anthem, glides effortlessly over the top. A fitting final salute.

[MP3] Kids At Midnight’s ‘Habits’

Kids At Midnight

Some deep sounds now from Jane Elizabeth Hanley’s Kids At Midnight project. Since their Let You Slide EP on Alan Braxe’s Vulture Music, Kids At Midnight’s releases have, more and more, been exploring a more moddy, emotional, end of the ElectroPop spectrum, taking in influences from Deep House and Warehouse vibes. This new track, Habits, is the epitome of that sound.

Achingly beautiful, Habits is an intoxicating swirl of night-time sounds. Smokey and dreamlike, the track melds a House beat with ominous tones and a haunting piano line which provide an insomniac backing for Jane’s ethereal diva vocals that phase in and out of the track like whispers on the wind. An alluring soundtrack to those who just can’t sleep.
