Zimmer’s ‘Horizontal Disco’ reMixes

zimmer1

This weekend saw the release of synthetic Disco maestro Zimmer’s ‘Horizontal Disco’ reMix EP. The ‘Horizontal Disco’ EP was one of many Discotexas highlights of 2011 and has, suitably, been given of top quality reMix package.

The highlight of the EP, for us, comes from American cosmic Boogie expert Moon Boots. His version of ‘Bay Bridge’ combines Moon Boots usual spaced-out Tropical flavour with a robotic bass and some bright, shining synths for a more electronic sound that we’re used to from him, but from it’s galactic groove to it’s vintage riffs, it’s a killer track. Elsewhere on the EP we get Broke One dropping a deep deep deep ‘90’s House vibe with rounded bass and a nice swing. Gomma’s Moullinex bring his playful Mediterranean Disco sound to the table with his version of ‘Looking At You’ complete with squelchy little synth riffs and a nostalgia inducing electric piano hook. Xinobi brings us back to the ‘90’s House-fest with his hand-in-the-air track that could have easily seen play at The Haçienda in the circa 1991. Also on board is the Lou Teti reMix we featured last week. These days we don;t expect anything less than the best from Discotexas, but it’s comforting to know they haven’t disappointed yet.

The Frost’s ‘That’s Life’ EP

the frost

We first came across Russia’s The Frost reMixing Voyagers ‘Lovers’ track, they have now dropped their own EP, and it;s three tracks of synthy Disco goodness.

‘That’s Life’ is a gorgeous, full Nu-Disco tune that takes a laid back approach to things. With some of the best use of sound I have heard in a while the track plays with sonics to create, almost eerie, atmospheres that haunt, what is, a seriously smooth groove. reMix duties come manned by Serj V, a producer we’re definitely keeping an eye on, who makes thing a tad more synthetic with his future Italo mix which mixes the ghostly Funk of the original with a Disco bass, and Sergey Spell, who opts for a Tropical approach and brings things straight to the beach part. ‘that’s Life’ is a pretty killer début EP. Russia is doing it right now!

Ronika’s ‘Automatic’ video

The video for, Madonna Of The Midlands™, Ronika’s awesome ‘Automatic’ is here.

To be honest, it’s pretty unbelievable just what you can do with CGI these days, the shots of Ron amidst the waves are so photo realistic you can smell the brine. Did I mention there was surfing? Most importantly though there is an inverted keys Korg Poly 800, or maybe that’s CGI too, ’cos it’s pretty rare. Anyhoo, loving Ron’s DIY vids, I hope even when she has a major label budget she still makes clips like this. Oh and Sam Potter from Late Of The Pier and John Sampson from Swimming all got involved.

You can pre-order the pay-what-you-want ‘Automatic’ EP here.

Ronika also appears on ‘electronic rumors Volume 1′, out now!

The Supermen Lovers’ ‘Say No More’ video

The video for The Supermen Lovers’ new single ‘Say No More’ has landed.

What’s going on in the clip that accompanies this twisted Nu-Disco tune? I couldn’t say. Is it as random as it looks? Who can tell?

Perseus’ Love In Zanzibar’

Perseus

This weekend French Express main man Perseus dropped another new free tune, and like ‘Seychelles’, it doesn’t disappoint.

The Mary J. Blige sampling ‘Love In Zanzibar’ is exotic Disco at it’s finest and although the vocal snippet dominates the track, it’s the synth bassline that is the real draw here. It plays out a robotic Funky groove which provides the whole route for the rest of the track to be smooth and soulful over. File this under ‘perfect tunes for lazy summer days’.

Zimmer reMixed by Lou Teti

zimmer

Zimmer’s ‘Horizontal Disco’ EP was one of the highlights of the latter half of last year. Now Discotexas far going for a second win with the soon-to-be-released ‘Horizontal Disco reMixes’.

Lou Teti contribution to the EP is this smooth sunset reMix of ‘Crusin’’ that plays on the originals riff amidst a beautiful, chilled out, Disco groove. The laid back solo really is something you need to hear. The EP will also boast reMixes from the likes of Moullinex, Broke One, Jeremy Glenn, Moon Boots, Xinobi and Mercury, that’s quite a line up. This collection drops in April, not only on digital but on a transparent 12” limited to 200 copies.

Black Magic Disco’s new EP

Black Magic Disco

London based producer Black Magic Disco is about to release his new single, ‘Downtown’ on Pole Position Recordings. Prepare for the Funk to be brought!

‘Downtown’ is a massive slice of Electro Boogie with a Moog-esque bassline that squelches and funks it’s way through the track like a Disco steamroller. And the awesome solid groove isn’t even the best bit, oh no, this tune is washed in subtle vocoding and some truly cosmic melodies and may be one of the best Cosmic Disco tracks I’ve heard this year. It doesn’t stop there though, one of our favourite producers ODahl steps up to work his magic on the track with some slick synthed Dreamwave ripe for the dancefloor and the normally more laid back Satin Jackets deliver a wicked 80’s synth Funked out Nu-Disco groover. The single also hold ‘First Avenue’ an inner city Disco B-side and a reMix from CRAM.

The Robot Scientists’ ‘Black Hole’

The Robot Scientists ft. Lisa

Up next is the first release from brand new Berlin based label Emerald & Doreen, a new collective dedicated to releasing new and interesting SynthWave and Electronic Disco. Their début record comes courtesy of German duo The Robot Scientists, and their Lisa featuring, ‘Black Hole’

‘Black Hole’ is a deep collision of the machine and the human. Robotic beats and post-Italo arpeggios fill a cold and regimented place in the song which is juxtaposed with some particularly Indie guitar work and Lisa’s timid, almost naïve sounding, but hopeful vocals. The electronic contains elements from all over, there’s a lot of ‘90’s dance music in there, some Balearic too and a pulsing analog groove. The reMix package has to be seen to be believed, it’s rammed full of excellent takes on the track, including Irregular Disco Workers’ Italo version which sounds like and EBM/Italo soundclash in a dark European nightclub and Electro master Alexander Robotnick surprisingly funky stripped back Tropical mix. You’ll also find work from our favourite Nu-Italo (is that a ‘thing’ yet?) man Kid Machine, who’s ‘Vocoder Dub’ is featured on the EP, but who’s ‘Vocal Mix’ and ‘Vocoder Mix’ we can present to you right here. His vocal mix is the core of his work here, and may be his best track to date. Like a cyborg Vangelis, Kid Machine conjures up synthetic sounds that in anyone else’s hands might sound distant or inhuman, but the Manc producer instils his Italo influenced arpeggios and sweeps with a rich emotional quality and an atmosphere that goes beyond synthesizer dance music. His ‘Vocoder’ Mix’ builds upon the foundations of his main mix but, with the addition of vocoded vocals, gives the track even more of a dark future vibe.
