[Audio] Irish Steph’s ‘Breathe’ (+ Ali Jamieson and Louis La Roché reMixes)

Irish Steph

Breathe is the forthcoming new single from seriously underrated Dubliner Irish Steph. Out at the end of the month on La Valigetta, the single is already getting spun by the likes of Madeon, Philippe Zdar (Cassius), Aeroplane, Justin Faust and Shinichi Osawa and deservedly so. When the release drops you can expect a bursting-at-the-seams reMix package from the likes of Blatta & Inesh, Joao Ceser, Stephane Deschezaux Ali Jamieson and Louis La Roché. Check it out.

Breathe bursts out your speakers with a siren drone before easing in a heartfelt vocal and a heavy bass groove.Walking the line between Nu-Disco and harder Dance sounds, Irish Steph delivers something that’s both a powerful dancefloor tune and something a little more cerebral. Robo vocals and layers of buzzing synths combine to create something strangely haunting amongst the pounding drums. Ali Jamieson takes the tracks Funk one step further, turning in a buoyant slab of Turbofunk, heavy on the vintage synth sounds and cosmic sweeps, revealing a gentler side to the original’s vocals. For the full-on Disco version of the track we turn to Louis La Roché who incorporates a bouncy bassline, the kind that can’t help but put a smile on your face, and uplifting keys in a twisting, galactic, mirror ball oddessy that, thanks to the vocals, doesn’t quite shake the original’s unsettling element. The whole package is pretty top quality. Mind-Disco.

[Audio] Chromeo & Toro Y Moi’s ‘Come Alive’

Chromeo

So, we were probably not going to post about this track, it’s over a week old and has been done to death on the internet. But, frankly, after such a long holiday we needed to ease ourselves back into things. Also, it’s fucking Chromeo and Chillwave superstar Toro Y Moi, how could we leave that alone? It’s the next teaser single from Chromeo’s forthcoming fourth studio album White Women, following Over Your Shoulder and Sexy Socialite; and frankly the most exciting thing we’ve heard from the new record so far.

Where the first two singles piqued our interest us, it’s Come Alive that really sets up White Women as one of our most anticipated released of 2014. A crystal clear slice of Disco Soul that sounds as classic Chromeo as anything they’ve ever done. Pure retro Funk Pop, Come Alive rides a wave of feel-good vintage groove, buoyant on a raft of shimmering synths and inquisitive slap bass. Chaz Bundick’s vocals nicely compliment Dave 1’s own voice as they take-turns with verses which give the track that back-and-forth feel that some of the best Chrome tracks always crafted between Dave & P. A slick-as-hell primer for White Women.

Chromeo’s forthcoming new album, White Women, is due out early 2014 and also feature collaborations with Oliver, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig and Solange Knowles.

[Audio] Fire Flowerz’s ‘Two Coffees’

fire-flowerz

Two Coffees is the new single from Italian high-octane Disco duo Fire Flowerz. Following their Overload EP from this summer, Two Coffees cracks on with the loud, ballsy, but ultimately funky-as-hell trajectory these guys are on, with the aim being squarely centred on the dancefloor.

This is what Fire Flowerz do best, full-on disco tunes filled to the top with big, abrasive snyth used in a funky way. Pounding, pounding beats, gritty chainsaw synths, heavily modulated collection of samples all designed to make the Disco bigger. And they’ve accomplished that mission as Two Coffees is truly Disco at it’s absolute largest.

Back Back Forward Punch

Australian ElectroPop duo Back Back Forward Punch are about ready for the big time. They’ve been generating a buzz for a few months now and their new single will only gain them more positive attention. Emergency Bow Tie, is their latest release, their third this year, and come equipped with a host of amazing reMixes including one from London’s Cosmic Disco king, MiGHty mOUse.

Emergency Bow Tie is a sumptuous four minutes of vocoder heavy Pop. As soon as it’s rubbery bassline blesses and VL-Tone purcussion hits your speakers it’s a fun ride. Delivering robo vox in the verses and a rousing female sung chorus, set against a sea of synth music that’s just retro enough to be hip, and just modern enough to sound slick, Emergency Bow Tie washes you with it’s warming electronic mood and it’s sense of wit. It’s top quality futuristic Pop that becomes a slinky grooved Disco beat in MiGHty mOUse’s safe hands. Mixing up some of his trademark galactic sounds with a heavy, heavy, dancefloor groove, the mOUse teases every ounce of Funk out of the track and turns in a robust crate secret weapon. The single, which is a free download, also boasts mixes from Pigeon, and Sun City. It’s definitely worth your attention.

[Audio] SaiR’s ‘World’

SaiR

It’s December, so that means it’s time for our yearly SaiR tune! The Portuguese Dreamwave Disco dude has come to warm up our winters with some seriously hot retro Funk. Six and a half minutes of it too! So sit back, and sink into this comfortable lush Disco groove.

With a air of Jazz-Funk and heaps of thick synth sounds, World delivers more laid back Disco vibes than you can handle. Resting on an immensely funky bassline and some lilting electric piano, this tune just keeps on dishing out the chilled moods whist keeping the funk on a dancefloor friendly level. More excellent work from SaiR here. SaiR should have an album on the way soon.

[Download] Keljet reMixes Goldroom’s ‘Embrace’

goldroom2

Ooo cheeky! You may recall we had all but promised that we had closed the door on featuring more reMixes of Goldroom’s blissful Embrace. Then Dutch Disco duo Keljet come along with this bad boy and despite out better judgement we can’t help but feature it. Keljet are on such a roll right now, storming track after track and really making a name for themselves. A well deserved name too, and a reputation this reMix does nothing to quash.

Keljet bring the hypnotic House vibes to the track this time around. it;s a well established science fact these days that Embrace has got an awesome vocal, and in the right hand it can be an amazing thing. Keljet’s hands are up to the job as they weave the vocal in and out of a slightly Tropical, pumping, tune that’s not exactly laid back, but not exactly upbeat either, just a nice groovy middle ground. Totally intoxicating.

[Audio] Tensnake, Nile Rodgers and Fiora’s ‘Love Sublime’

tensnake

Ahead of the forthcoming release of German House superstar Tensnake’s début album Glow, set for the first quarter of next year. It’s an album that will be boasting a host of collaborators such as Stuart Price, Jamie Lidell, Jeremy Glenn and MNEK alongside frequent vocaliser Fiora and the one and only Mr. Nile Rodgers. It’s Fiora and Rodgers who appear on the albums first single, Love Sublime. Check it out.

Love Sublime is slick as hell. On the surface it appears to be another slice of throwback Disco, but it;s a lot more complex than that. There’s hints of Italo, of 80s Pop and Soul. If anything this feels more Top Of The Pops than 70s Mirrorball. Bouncy synth basslines and multi layered vocals with a breathy delay give it a very mid-80s feel (think: Imagination) with shuffling hi-hats. It’s an excellent choice for a single, but if you can;t wait that long Tensnake has dropped another new tune, which is available as a free download, in the form of the deeper and Housier strobe light epic, No Relief.

[Download] Bit Funk’s ‘Soul Satisfaction’

Bit Funk

Soul Satisfaction is the latest tune from Brooklyn beatmaster Bit Funk and as per-usual, the man comes up with something surprising, innovative and out-of-the-blue. On Soul Satisfaction that surprise is a beautiful deep-south-y blues-y vocal which imbues the song with, well, soul. Check it out.

Remember in the mid-890s, when everyone was sampling old Blues records and pairing them up with piano hooks and breakbeats? Well, Soul Satisfaction is kinda’ like that, but minus the breakbeats and plus a truck load of House grove. The whole experience, from the finger-snapping beat to the big choruses, is quite dramatic and emotional, with Bit Funk’s music rising and falling with the vocals. It’s really hard not to love.

Soul Satisfaction is taken from Bit Funk’s forthcoming Soul Satisfaction EP, due out 12th December.
