[Audio] Frankmusik reMixes Ride The Universe’s ‘You And I’

ride-the-universe_thumb

We unleashed the new tune from Dreamwave superheroes Ride The Universe a couple of weeks ago. You And I is definitely one of the funkier and more entertaining slabs of Nu-Disco released this summer, like a rush of good times. The track has been given the reMix treatment by Mr. Frankmusik, and the result it typically quirky and typically dancefloor destroying. Check it out.

In the same vein as many of his recent reMixes, Frankmusik delivers a huge sound, stuffed full of complex patterns and musical bait & switches. Keeping the funk intact the whole time, Frankmusik infuses the track with stuttering hook and layers of buzzing synth lines. In his element with the vocal snatches, Vincent chops and pastes various elements, rearranging them in to fresh new melodies to ride his staggered dancefloor beats. A more aggressive, but perfectly complimentary, companion to the original.

[Audio] Shelby Grey’s ‘Electric Illusions’ EP

Shelby Grey

Released today, a fitting Friday 13th, is Spanish Nu-Disco and Dreamwave producer Shelby Grey’s new EP, Electric Illusions. Fitting as the new release sees Grey take a voyage into the worlds of 80’s synth Horror Soundtracks and moody Italo, all wrapped up in the man’s quirky Disco beats. Interesting stuff, and an anathema to the tidal waves of summery party Disco now the night are getting longer…and darker.

The release’s title track is a marching creepshow of synthetic basslines and spooky nightmare melodies, juxtaposed with a space-age Cosmic Disco groove. A Disco tune to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, Electric Illusions brings dread to the dancefloor. Possession continues the mood, but adds in some shuffling percussive breakbeats to the mix before the release plays out on Baroque Electrique. This final track is a pumping Italo/SynthWave soundtrack piece loaded with Disco flourishes. A rolling arpeggiated bassline drives the track ever onward with all manner of tense synth chords play out over the top, this one brings the strongest vibe to the EP whilst keeping up the mysterious theme running through. A good concept EP from Shelby, and a nice break from the norm.

[MP3] Ride The Universe’s ‘You And I’

Ride The Universe

Before we talk about the new tune from Dreamwave superheroes Ride The Universe, let’s just take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous cover artwork by RTU’s Pete (A.K.A. digitalfoxglove), we’re really digging it. Of course, he is a graphic designer by trade, so if it was shit we would have been pretty disappointed, but still, it’s an awesome bit of art. Anyhoo, the funky foursome are dropping a brand new track today, You And I, just in time for the final fling of the summer. Let’s get involved.

You And I is the product of four different minds, with four sets on influences, and really benefits from it. Encapsulating Ride The Universe’s funk, You And I is laid back, but never relaxed. Bringing a full-on stormer at a pace you can groove to, the tune glides along on a slightly Housey hook, replete with Ride The Universe’s trademark percussive formant synth work, all ridden by some smooth talkbox’d vocals. Did we mention the stratospheric solo from Sam in the big breakdown? It’ll push you over the edge. The most cinematic piece of Space Disco from Ride The Universe yet, these guys just get better and better.

[MP3] Paulie’s ‘Want You’ reMixed by Monday Club

Paulie

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of sometime Cosmonaut and deep Disco producer Paulie’s new single, Want You, since last month and with Mondays imminent release we can wrap our ear holes around one of the reMixes, a luxurious boom-filled warehouse mix from enigmatic London producer Monday Club.

Monday Club really lets himself go on this mix. Starting life as a Chicago-esque jam, with almost Bleep House-like overtones the track swiftly evolves into a glorious, epic, collision of Deep House grooves, Cosmic Disco retro-futurism and Euphoric Trance, well, euphoria. You might think that sounds like a mess, but check out the reMix, it’s tight as hell and a dancefloor oddessy with a true musical narrative. Ass kicking bass too!

Paulie’s Want You is released 26th August.

[Audio] Jensen Sportag’s ‘Bellz’

Jensen Sportag

It feels like we’ve been waiting an age for new material from Nashville Chillwavers Jensen Sportag, their Pure Wet EP seems like it was years ago, and that’s because it was, and with only the odd track and reMix here and there since, we feel slightly deprived of cool dreamlike Funk. Fear not though, the duo have been hunkered down in the studio busting out their début album. Set for release in November on Cascine, Stealth Of Days is as good as you’d hope it to be (we’ve had a cheeky listen, shhhh) and here’s your first taste, Bellz.

The album’s first single really show off what the Sportags have been up to these long two years. Bellz rocks a killer digital bassline and smooth retro stabs. For a track seen though the haze of reverb, the groove is amazingly tight. That bassline plays off the shuffling beats with razor sharp precision, which allows the airy Soul vocals and waves of hazy Tropical synths to glide over the tune in a loose fashion without stripping the tune of it’s dancefloor appeal. Which leaves you with the best of two worlds, Chillwave and Disco, really.

stevie-nicks-436x600

It’s Basti from Germany’s finest Synth lovers Final DJs’ birthday! To celebrate this auspicious occasion the duo have whipped up this luscious reMix of Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie NicksStand Back. It’s an epic vocal that fits in nicely with Final DJs epic synth ethos. Expect hazy electronic vibes.

Loaded with dreamy synths, as thick as you like, this reMix is a multi layers wave of electronic goodness. Waves of rich tones and nostalgic hooks crash over Stevie Nicks husky vocal. With just a hint of Cosmic Disco and Italo amongst the slick SynthWave styled ElectroPop, Final Djs make the track both hazily nostalgia and futuristic at the same time. Retro future beauty from Germany with a soulful American vocal, what more could you want?

[MP3] Shook’s ‘Summer Heat’

Shook

Dutch Disco master (yes, master!) Shook is back with some big news and a free tune. The mans début album, which is a pretty long awaited release, is finished and to drop in August. To warm everyone up, Shook is giving away one of the album tracks, for one week only. The sumptuous Summer heat does just what it says on the tin, prepare for laid back sunshine vibes.

As I sit here writing about this tune, it’s a scorching 31°C in the UK and much of Summer Heat sounds like I feel (especially the bit about getting an ice cream!). It;s lazy funk bassline and wicked Disco licks merge together with thick Moogs  and a vintage beat to form a poolside, hot city nights, beach funk, summer good-times anthem for those who don’t care about moving too fast, as long as something’s going down. Strings, wailing synth solos and a smouldering vocal are all just the icing on the cake. Can’t wait for the album.

Shook – Summer Heat (Album Version)

Shook’s début album, is released 6th August.

[Audio] Mild Peril’s ‘Unknown Zones’ Vol’s 1 & 2

mild peril

July had been a busy week for London based Italo synthesist Chris Flatline A.K.A. Mild Peril. With two releases, on different formats, in the space of a week, Mild Peril in on the approach vector to deliver the culmination of this particular phase of his Cosmic Italo journey. One limited edition, on Vivod Records, and one digital release should whet people appetites for of this lush, evocative, electronic soundtrack.

Firstly, there is the limited edition 12” release of Alpha Zone and Gamma Zone. Both to be found in their original form on the Unknown Zones, First Survey EP, here slightly reworked but no less fantastical. These two tracks are amongst Mild Peril’s best, robotic yet emotional, mysterious yet comforting, utilising machine beats, razor sharp lead lines and heady swirls of synthesizer sounds to create moods for your head and your feet. Owning these two tunes on vinyl is a pretty interesting prospect for the discerning Italo DJ. The second release, Unknown Zones Vol. 2, contains two new tunes, Outer Zone/Sigma Zone and Crisis In Gamma Zone, both built upon existing themes but honed through the last couple of years of releases and live shows into two epic electronic narratives. At around quarter of an hour each, there is much scope here for ushering the listener through a variety of moods that weave together to tell the tale of the whole. Haunting chimes and cascades of electronic warmth will give way to pulsating arpeggios and pulsating FM bass, and back again, as the voyage though Italo, Cosmic Disco and late 70s soundtrack vibes progresses. A definite recommendation for any lover of synthesizer music that should be seeing a physical release later in the year.

[MP3] Paulie’s ‘Want You’

Paulie

The new track from Cosmonaut Paulie, his follow up to the incredibly well received Spread Love. Showing off a totally different style to Spread Love, Paulie proves himself to be no one-trick-pony. The singe gets a proper release, with reMix package, in the coming weeks but for now you can grab the original in all it’s glory for free.

Paulie draws on his background in Cosmic Disco for the spaced out and Dubby Want You. Whereas with Spread Love you were wrapped in deep, hypnotic, House sounds, Want You is an airy slice of vintage Disco with a solid analog-esque Italo groove and an extra layer of subtle, but potent Dubby effects. On top of all this rides a slowly building vocal track that begins blending vocal snatched with a rich vocoded topline and ends up with a powerful vocal crescendo. This one’s going to do the biz, can;t wait for the full single release.
