Foxes + Pyramid + Monsieur Adi

foxes

Singer/songwriter Louisa Rose Allen’s recently had a second wind, as Foxes, when Neon Gold, always with the finger on the pulse of eclectic Pop, snapped her up for the release of her new single ‘Youth’. released earlier this  month.

Appropriately for Neon Gold, the single exists in the nexus between Ellie and Marina. Take Marina’s quirkiness and Ellie’s percussion led bombast and wrap them up with impassioned vocals and a sense of accessibility and it should see Foxes make quite a mark in 2012. You know Neon Gold has an eye for these things. The internet has been graced with some wonderful reMixes of the tune too. Pyramid, who début is still regularly playlisted round these parts, delivers an seriously impressive, driving, SynthWave mix. With a real analog rawness to it, yet still with a Pop sheen. Some majestic organs elevate a track which is probably my favourite version of the song, which is saying a lot when you hear the other reMix. Monsieur Adi, who since his début has done no wrong in our eyes, turns in an awesome, rhythmically exciting, slice of soaring Nu-DiscoPop. Frantic drumming and dagger sharp synth leads and a hint of Samba all fall into Adi’s melting pot and the result is a seven minute aural party.

Awkoder reMixes Edgework

edgework

Released yesterday was the new single from French electronic act Edgework. the reMix package contains this gem from the awesome SynthWaver Awkoder.

So light and fluffy is Awkoder’s reMix, that’s it’s practically ElectroPop. There’s actually quite a strong strain of New Order DNA running through this track. The bassline, the bright shiny synths, the arrangement, all capture something of  New Order in the early ‘80’s, bits of ‘Blue Monday’ and ‘Shellshock’ spring to mind. This, of course, is all injected with Awkoder’s Nu-Italo synthesizer skills and results in a nice slice of retro synth nostalgia.

Miami Nights 1984’s ‘The Getaway’

Miami Nights 1984

He promised it, and here it is. A brand new track from Miami Nights 1984, and he really captures the Miami Vice feel this time.

‘The Getaway’ kicks off with a very Jan Hammer-esque ringing arpeggio before treating us to some of the most soaring of soaring synths I’ve heard in a while. The main refrain in the track is actually pretty dark, giving ‘The Getaway’ a sense of drama, but there is always hopefulness in those cosmic synth solos. If you were in a Ferrari, sporting a mullet, and eluding the cops, then this would have to be your soundtrack.

Mitch Murder reMixes Lazerhawk

Lazerhawk

Oooo, this is exciting stuff. SynthWave guru Lazerhawk is gearing up for the release of his ‘Arrival’ EP, the Jordan F reMix has been rocking our worlds for a while now but we finally get to get our ears round Mitch Murder’s take on the track.

We’re still reeling from Mitch’s new album ‘Current Events’ (which just missed the top spot in our top albums of 2011) so we know the man is on top for right now, but once again he blows us away with this soaring slice of pure synthesizer joy. Unlike some electronic music producers who sit in front of Abelton firing off arpeggios, Mitch is a true musician. His mastery of layering and melody and his ability to capture an emotional mood in a synth dance track is second to none. This is what it sounds like in my brain all the time. Vangelis would be proud.

Lazerhawk’s new EP is out soon also featuring reMixes from Miami Nights 1984 and Jordan F.

Quasars ‘80’s Muscle’

quasars

One of our favourite Russian producers, and one we have featured a lot on the past few months, Quasars, has dropped a brand new retro tune.

‘80’s Muscle’ is seriously epic, a word that gets thrown around a lot, but this track really epitomises epicness. It’s rousing, inspirational, synthesizer soundtrack stuff with a slow Sci-Fi build that layers different electronic melodies until the power chords kick in. That’s when things get properly fist pumping. Quasars is fast becoming cream of the crop when it comes to Russian SynthWave.

Indian Summer reMix Polographia

Polographia

Australian Dreamwavers Indian Summer have souped up Polographia’s ‘Righteous Heat’, turning it from deep ambiance to a funked up slice of SynthWave.

Layers of the crispest, cleanest and rounded synth sounds echo and bounce off one another over a fresh Disco beat giving the originally melancholic track the lift it needed. Even the new melodies serve to raise the tune to the point where it’s now an infections five minutes of mysterious Sci-Fi ElectroPop.

80s Stallone’s ‘Beach’ EP

80s Stallone

Released next month on Silhouette Music is the new EP from SynthWave maestro 80s Stallone.

The ‘Beach’ EP’s title track is a thing of pure joy. Waves of nostalgia wash forth from vintage synth sounds creating this feel good, slightly Italo, vibe. I don’t know whether it’s the bouncy mid-‘80’s bassline or the SynthPop melodies, but there’s just something about this track that captures everything we love about retro synthesizer music, and put a smile on our faces while it does it. We covered the Jan Hammer-esque flipside a few months ago Cliffhanger and love it even more now. the rest of the EP is filled with some awesome reMix work from L’Equipe Du Son, who turn the title track into a night drive pulsar with a slight Psy Trance feel in the burbling riffs, and and some really smooth, laid back, electronic Disco from The Legendary 1979 Orchestra.

Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver’s new EP

Looks like Discotexas are onto another absolute winner with heir next release, the ‘Diamonda’ EP from Finish production duo Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver.

From them moment the lead track kicks off your ears are treated to some massive sounding ‘80’s influenced Dreamwave awesomeness. ‘Diamonda’ is a full on driving synth track that walks the pumping line between Nu-Disco and Outrun Electro. this tune is so exciting it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It’s partnered with ‘Opal’, more Dreamwave excellence with slightly more of a hazy summer city nights vibe to it and some lush soaring synths. reMixes come correct from Justin Faust who’s Nu-Disco groove is a bit of a stand out track, Xinobi and Bright Shades. As an extra treat here’s also the EP’s closing track ‘22’ to download, it makes a nice retro comedown for the EP.

Lazercat’s new single

lazercat

Out soon on Spirit Soul Music is the new double A-side single from Lazercat.

The Berlin based producer two new tunes, ‘Lovestruck’ and ‘Heartbeat’ are prefect examples of Housey cosmic SynthWave. ‘Lovestruck’ has got a nice late ‘80’s House/Italo digital bassline going on, proving a solid backing for some floaty retro synths to play around over the top. the combination of deep groove, bright melodies and an uplifting progression make this a pretty addictive track. it’s flip side ‘Heartbeat’ is a chilled synth Funk workout led by a smooth electric piano line and synth solo that’s pure ‘80’s Disco. A great atmospheric track.
