The Loveliers

TheLoveliers

Sometimes I love a good cryptic email, especially when it comes with such good music.

Meet The Loveliers they are from Poland, they may or may not be friends with Kamp! and, er, that’s about it.

Best let the music do the talking, and ‘Interactivity’ is a beautiful slice of synthesizer Pop. Quite dark musically but with an uplifting vocal the track has the sheen of contemporary production but a real 80’s SynthPop feel to it. The arrangement and choice of sounds are decidedly retro, and the vocal accent and inflection give The Loveliers a unique sound all of their own.

Daybehavior

Daybehaviour

Daybehavior will be a name well known to anyone who, like us,  weathered the SynthPop ‘wilderness years’ of the mid-90’s to the mid-2000’s, before it became vogue again.

Many of the acts that were associated with the so-called ‘modern SynthPop’ scene were, unfortunately, stale and fell quickly by the wayside but Daybehavior was one of the shining beacons of hope in the sea of mediocrity.

Formed in 1993 Daybehavior, and the like, kept us going when the world wanted BritPop and dance music was all about being ‘hard’. Now, after a brief split, Daybehavoir are back, with the original line up, and releasing a new album! Their 3rd studio album will be out soon but the band have given us a taste of what to expect in the form of ‘City Lights’, an awesome, hypnotic, synthetic urban hymn. An electronic ode to travelling through the city with more than a small nod to Kraftwerk’s own train journey.

Daybehavior’s 3rd album will be released soon, their two previous records are still available:

Visitor’s début single B-side

visitor

One of the brightest ElectroPop hopes for the coming year, Visitor, stopped by the electronic rumors inbox last night to drop off the B-side to their forthcoming (and pretty eagerly anticipated) début single ‘Los Feeling’.

Defiantly a band to get exited about, Visitor have enlisted one of our favourite producers Diamond Cut to cover mixing board duties and with the already blog smashing Alan Braxe reMix the single is looking likely to take the Electro world by storm. ‘Love (Club Edit)’, the B-Side, is a slick as hell slice of electronic dance Pop that dips and soars in all the right place and could, frankly, sustain a single all of it’s own.

Visitor – Love (Club Edit)

‘Los Feeling’ drops 21stJune on Vulture Records, until then check out their MySpace for more music.

Right, I’m kicking off this post with a confession. you remember the hiatus we had for a few months last year? Well, we receive literally hundreds of items of promotional music weekly, and during that period a whole lot got overlooked, ignored or even binned. I didn’t even know if the site was coming back at the time. I didn’t have the time to work on the site at all, let alone give everything we receive a fair listen.

Some things fell through the cracks, and for that I am truly sorry.

Why the sudden remorse? Well, this past weekend I was lucky enough to catch live one of the acts who’s emails were buried in the inbox build-up around that time. They are called :kinema: and they blew me away!

There’s a whole lot of upcoming ElectroPop acts from the UK, amazing talents who are embracing the Dreamwave sound and applying it to British SynthPop, but who’s got our smooth and soulful Electro-Funk-Pop base covered? :kinema: have, and they could easily go toe-to-toe with Chromeo!

Already drawing comparisons to the likes of Hot Chip and Phoenix, this Brighton band has been nurturing their sound since 2007 and last year dropped their début EP, ‘Circles’ Amongst the reMixes of the title track was this one by Soul Jazz man Secondo who’s Housey rework injects an deep early 90’s warehouse bassline into the track.

:kinema: – Circles (Secondo Vocal reMix)

Michal Jackson tribute ‘White Socks For Dancin’’ is pure Disco-Pop awesomeness with more than a small nod to mid 80’s Electro/Pop/Soul.

:kinema: – White Socks For Dancin’

:kinema: have just released a brand new single titled ‘Recreation’ which is backed with their cover of Animal collective’s ‘My’ Girl’, check their website, http://kinema.co.uk/, for the lowdown.

Also, check their recent collaboration with Swedish producer Beem:

Alan Braxe reMixes Visitor

Visitor

London’s SynthPop rising stars Visitor’s Diamond Cut produced forthcoming single ‘Los Feeling’ is being eagerly anticipated by anyone with even a passing interest in electronic music.

The ex-Cobra Dukes produce, with this single, a perfect balance of the retro and the new, as if modern equipment and production techniques were transported back to the 80’s. ‘Los Feeling’ is powerful and passionate with node to both the intimate ElectroPop of Pet Shop Boys and OMD to the stadium rock of Simple Minds or U2. The much anticipated Alan Braxe reMix has been on Youtube for a while now and has had more than a few repeat listens. Braxe really takes the track to another level creating an intense, multi-layered Nu-Disco track that deserves to blasted loud on a summer’s night!

With more reMixes from Designer Drugs, Fear Of Tigers and Monsieur Adi, waiting for this single to be released is almost painful, until then give the guys some massive MySpace love!

Kitsuné X Ponystep

KitsuneXPonystep

Last time Kitsuné Music collaborated with one of Richard Mortimer projects on a CD the end result was ‘Kitsuné/BoomBox’. Mixed by, both Kitsuné resident and resident at Mortimer’s legendary BoomBox club, Jerry Bouthier, the album brought together Electro-house and underground ElectroPop to amazingly capture the summer of 2007 for anyone listening to that type of music or going to those types of clubs. it was easily the soundtrack to the year.

This summer Kitsuné are partnering up with Mortimer’s current business, the London based Fashion/Music/Culture webzine PonyStep, to produce another compilation. Mixed, once more, by one half of JBAG, Bouthier, the track list is already impressive. Featuring the likes of Róisín Murphy, Bag Raiders, Adamski, Lindstrøm, Lo-Fi-Fnk, David E Sugar and Das Pop to name a few. BeatauCue’s reMix of Florrie’s ‘911’ makes an appearance in the form of a JBAG edit. As does Two Door Cinema Club’s previous single ‘I Can Talk’ as reMixed by French Horn Rebellion. With a line up like that, and Jerry Bouthier’s prowess at putting together an awesome electronic Pop mix this album should really be something special!

Minitel Rose’s new album, with Barretso and Kolt13 reMixes!

MinitelRose

Minitel Rose, those purveyors of the smoothest of French SynthPop & Dreamwave, are finally gearing up to drop their second album ‘Atlantic’ this June, and that (if you didn’t know) is an exiting thing! Their 2008 début ‘The French Machine’ still gets weekly play here and was an important record in terms of introducing a smoother French Electro sound to the masses and drawing wider attention to the Dreamwave movement being spearheaded by the Valerie Collective.

Listening to ‘Wild Birds’, the first track from the album, just wets the appetite even more. Their Electro-House tinged Disco SynthPop is in full effect on this energetic, anthemic track. It’s retro synth chords and uplifting vocals seriously bode well for this album being the soundtrack to the summer. electronic rumors fave  Barretso give the track a shot of adrenaline with his reMix, busting out his best pumping percussion and shimmering synths to create a powerhouse of a reMix. Kolt13 brings a Disco/Chiptune soundclash to his version, and intricate mixture of Nintendo madness and Discoball funk.

Minitel Rose look like they are going to release an awesome album, with some awesome remixes. Can’t wait!

Kamp!; Polish SynthPop

Kamp!

Kamp! are a Polish SynthPop act who have just released their new single, ‘Heats’, on Brennessel.

The single is an impassioned classic SynthPop tune with a touch of Nu-Disco in it’s bassline. ‘Heats’ is an intricate retro styles Pop song with a little hint of Spandau Ballet about it. The B-side, ‘Distance Of The Modern Hearts’ is more upbeat and an awesome collision between classic, pure 80’s Pop and Nu-Disco. Defiantly a band to keep an eye, or ear,  on!

HURTS cover Diana Vickers’ ‘Once’

HURTS04

This afternoon HURTS appeared on Jo Whiley’s ‘Live Lounge’ on BBC Radio 1, as well as well as an epic acoustic performance of their current single ‘Better Than Love’ the guys also covered Diana Vickers’ recent single ‘Once’.

Citing an underlying sadness in the Cathy Dennis & Eg White penned track as the reason for their choice of cover, the band (complete with, not only their opera singer, but cello and violin) belted out an intense rendition. The song had previously sent Diana Vickers (who has also worked with Ellie Goulding and Starsmith) to number one in the charts.

The band also talked about summer festivals, influences and not having a title for the August released album yet.
