Kartell reMixes The B.B. & Q. Band

The B.B. & Q. Band

Parisian producer of all things smooth synthetic Disco Kartell has been dropping some amazing tracks recently, his reMixes are getting better and better. His latest mission was to get funky with Disco Funk legends The Brooklyn, Bronx & Queens Band and their 1986 hit (I’m A) Dreamer.

Kartell has created a perfect summer Funk track right here. The brittle synth stabs play nicely against the bouncy digital slap bass, with a jerky nervousness so telling of Disco tracks from the mid ‘80’s. All adding to the laid back groove Kartell has created using just the right amount of the vocal to add some smoothness, but not take over the track. Grab yourself a drink, (I’m A) Dreamer’s here.

Rocco Raimundo’s ‘Do You Wanna’?’

The ‘90’s House sound has now infiltrated everything, not that that’s a bad thing but four years ago we wouldn’t have expected it to be the next big thing. Now it is however the nostalgia is really fun. Which comes as no shock as House in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s was all about the fun. Disco dons want in on the act too, normally renowned for his late night Disco boogie Mr. Rocco Raimundo’s latest SoundCloud drop is positively ‘90’s House.

Not surprising really, as his tune, Do You Wanna’? is based around Salt ‘N’ Pepa’s Do You Really Want Me, taking it’s main loop and vocal snatches Raimundo turns a Pop Rap track into deep Chicago House and makes it look effortless. Phasing in and out the smallest of vocal sample and letting the hook, with some added deep bass groove, do the work of pumping out a hypnotic jam. Whether Disco or House, Rocco Raimundo can work the dancefloor.

MiGHty mOUse reMixes Moonlight Matters

Moonlight Matters (Seba from Villa)’s Gustaph from Hercules And Love Affair featuring Come For Me is easily one of the tracks of the year so far, along with a handful of other release it’s really breaking that post Bomb The Bass late ‘90’s Pop sound that just so darn fun. What better to put the icing on the cake that a reMix from London’s dancefloor controller MiGHty mOUse.

The mOUse takes the Chicago House elements of the track and runs with them. It’s an epic song and MM really works that by bringing us down into a hypnotic groove for the verses and then sending us skyrocketing into a massive piano led, euphoric chorus. MM really works the diva nature of the vocals by building tension and adding layers to the verses as they build toward the chorus, where the tension breaks into pure uplifting anthem territory. It’s the attention to detail that really makes this mix shine, full of intricate details, from the percussion to the sampling, it’s impeccable produced, giving it something to rock dancefloors and something to rock your headphones. The track isn’t on the single, it’s an added bonus, so grab the download now.

Ride The Universe reMixes Jane Badler

Are you sitting comfortably? No? Well maybe you should skip this track until you can find yourself somewhere decent to sit, or preferably lie, ‘cos this track is so smooth that you might just loose the use of your legs and melt into a pool of Funk. And for health and safety reasons we have to suggest you minimise injury when that happens. I’ve been wanting to write about this track for a couple of months now, purely so I can use the phrase ‘rodent chomper’, as you’ll see. Dreamwave superheroes and the funkiest men in the business Ride The Universe’s latest reMix assignment is for rodent chomper Jane Badler, who is apparently not only the leader of an alien invasion force, but also a pretty slick cabaret singer too.

The Ride the Universe crew’s reMix of Yesterday’s Tomorrows starts smooth, and gets smoother. Riding not just the universe, but also a laid back groove, the foursome drop some chilled electric piano, a rolling bassline and even a hint of sax drifting across the rooftops. Even the Disco beat seems to be saying “don’t worry about it, just relax”. Balder’s cabaret style is a little grating for my personal tastes, but that can in no way obscure the amazingness that it that is this tune, the best of current Nu-Disco. Here’s hoping for a Dub. The only problem with Ride The Universe is that their productions are to few and too far between, each new tune they drop leaves us eager for the next. Did I mention it was smooth?

The return of LexiconDon

This week Binary’s bay boys LexiconDon make their long awaited return. LexiconDon were amongst the Dreamwave originators, the original Binary crew, and since the release of their amazing Pink + Blue album in 2010 the Don’s main synth twiddler Fabian went on to have critically acclaimed Nu-Disco hit album Say Goodbye. We’ve been waiting a while but now looks like the right time for the guys to get the band back together! Time for another LexiconDon summer.

The new single Where Did We Go? is pure LexiconDon. The combination of Fabian’s smooth beats and Alex’s croon is something special. Just the vibe it gives off, I dunno’, it’s hard to explain but Fabian and Alex just sell it. I’m not sure what the ‘it’ they sell is, but whatever ‘it’ is it happens in the sunshine with beer and friends. For lovers of laid back, Disco tinged ElectroPop with an Indie aesthetic, this is your summer tune.

Bit Funk’s new tune

Brooklyn Disco don Bit Funk is back with a brand new tune, and one with such a summery groove that it’ll make the sun shine wherever you are. Even if you live in Alaska. Bit Funk seems to have been a bit quiet of late so this new track is a most welcome return.

It Ain’t Easy walks a tightrope, balanced between Nu-Disco and House. Taking in the funky little licks and laid back beats of Nu-Disco and coupling them with a solid House bassline and vocal snatches, Bit Funk has conjured up to perfect tune for late night dancefloors. That deep bassline is the real core of the track, giving it a nice nostalgic flavour.

Auxiliary Tha Masterfader’s ‘Electric Disco’ EP

Auxiliary Tha Masterfader is a Dutch Nu-Disco maestro who’s name will be more than familiar to serious synthesizer Disco aficionados. It;s been a while since his The Disco Dictator EP but he returns this week with a brand new release on On The Fruit Records, the Electric Disco EP is truly a thing of beauty, if you like soaring synths, cosmic Disco and vocoder heaven.

The EP kicks off, and quite rightly too, with Masterfader Theme, an impeccably produced Disco epic, that is one part Vangelis, two parts Moroder with equal nods to Cosmic Disco and Italo dancefloors. With a solid rhythm section and a slick late ‘70’s style hook all that’s needed is some vocoded vocals. Oh wait, they they are. Totally a theme tune to be proud of. If Masterfader Theme is Aux’s introduction then Mirror Ball is his dancefloor manifesto. Both rocking and poking fun at the Discotheque at the same time, Mirror Ball bounces along on an Italo bassline and layers it with lush Disco stings, big retro chords and our beloved electro toms. As Aux’s mantra vocoded vocals wash over you it’s hard not to be impressed with the effortlessly perfect production. The man has his studio skills down pat, Mirror Ball is right on the money. As is London Cosmic Disco duo Cosmonauts’ reMix of the track, which lends some piercing vintage synth leads to the tune and brings a laid back, summer-nights-in-space, vibe. The EP also comes with another original Let’s Go a seriously chilled final credits-esque nostalgic jam and a huge Dub of Cosmonauts’ reMix. Auxiliary Tha Masterfader is pretty much taking the Nu-Disco scene to school with this EP, showing ‘em how it’s done.

Future Classic , this week, released the new single from Australian DJ and songstress Anna Lunoe. The single sees her teaming up with fellow Aussie producers to funky effect and is accurately billed under Anna Lunoe & Friends.

The two originals on the single, the A-Side Real Talk and its flip, I Met You see Anna Lounoe collaborating with Touch Sensitive and Flume respectively. Touch Sensitive is Michael Di Francesco of Van She, so you know to expect some Tropical vibes. You may no be prepared for just how Tropical it really is though. It’s like a Bounty advert and Chicago House had offspring. Chopped up vocal and a big piano hook sit nicely alongside the island percussion in a ‘90’s House track that you won’t be able to help your self smiling to. Flume’s team-up, I Met You, brings more of a laid back Disco infused ElectroPop vibe to the EP. Indescribably summery, the twisted Moog synth line and hollow bass making for some seriously chilled Disco vibes. Anna’s intimate vocal draws you in to a pure feel good tune, in fact the whole EP is just about chilled summer good times. Pure part soundtrack stuff. The master of the Disco edit Late Nite Tuff Guy gets in on the action too with a Dub of I Met You. He works his Nu-Disco magic and sends the track straight to the danceflor.
