Awkoder reMixes Tiam Wills

Awesome French SynthWaver Awkoder has dropped his latest reMix. A reworking of fellow Frenchman Tiam Wills’ new single Hardiscount and it’s a surprising massive Nu-Disco monster. Surprising because we’re more used to atmospheric synth epics from Awkoder, and this reMix is full of funk. Good surprising though.

Kicking of with a wicked Disco lick the track soon descends into a retro synth love-fest. Drawing in the particularly Disco end of the Italo spectrum, Awkoder whips up big slice of synth Funk a throws in a little French Touch filtering and some of those crisp SynthWave lead lines for good measure. Keeping the vocals to a hypnotic mantra, Awkoder lets them become the tracks underlay. A base on which his intertwining arpeggios and crystal clear chord stabs can play out with a nice late ‘80’s feel and a solid dancefloor leaning. This one’ll keep them moving at peak time.

The Penelopes reMix Glitches

Our favourite two Frenchmen lost in London The Penelopes recently reMixed fellow London denizens, Electro-Indie band Glitches forthcoming single, Dust & Shadow. This Bethnal Green/Whitechapel soundclash has resulted in one of the funkiest Indie tracks of the summer.

This reMixes plays to both Glitches and The Penelopes strengths. Glitches dual range vocals belt out in an epic style. Emotional and passionate, the vocal track sits perfectly on The Penelope’s bass led DiscoPop. Driven by a bassline you can help bobbing to, this track lays the shimmering synth lines on thick. Bright melodies play against otherworldly pads and energetic arpeggios to create an organic sounding synth symphony that seems to evolve naturally as it progresses. It’s got a groove that guaranteed to keep the dancefloor moving too.

A couple of new (or old) Monsieur Adi demos

In the past week the most underrated artist producing today, France’s Monsieur Adi let loose a couple of new (or old in some cases) demos on his SoundCloud account. Adi talent cannot be contained by genre, and it’s amazing to hear him branching out in terms of styles and sounds.

The first track, Paradis, is a brooding dark affair. The darkest we’ve ever had from Adi. Ominous droning synths and menacing whispered vocals lean the track an Industrial quality whist keeping an analog French Electro sound. This use of an Electro pallet with an experimental flavour makes for a track that’s as unsettling as it is fascinating. Of course, Adi’s emotional arrangements just ass to the songs involvement. Joyride was apparently written for Madonna, during Adi’s reMixing Madonna phase, but he presents it here as sung by Javi. It’s an excellent Pop track, and Madge is truly missing out with this one. You can kinda’ tell it was written with her range, and style, in mind and it would have been something new for her whilst obviously referencing classic Madonna. It’s about time the music industry at large paid attention to Adi, he could be knocking out hits for any number if stars right now if they’d let him. Joyride is a sweeping, rich Pop tune with added helpings of Adi’s musical majesty. The demo is from last year, but Adi plans on devolving the track further, we can’t wait.

Cassette Club’s ‘Talk To Me’

Here’s a Friday treat from Cassette Club. Just ahead of the release of their Flash reMix package on Modal in the coming weeks, the duo of Ben Macklin and Tom Hammond have dropped this previously unreleased Cassette Club tune. Talk To Me (despite having exactly the same title as a certain forthcoming release, grrrrr) is an insanely good slice of Poppy Electro Boogie. The mind boggles as to why it wasn’t released, it’s out track for the weekend!

This is Cassette Club doing what Cassette Club do best, amazingly rich ElectroPop, although this time with an injection of Funk that’s slightly stronger than their other tracks. Talk To Me, I believe, dates from around late 2011 and is loaded with slick Disco licks, punchy retro synths and impassioned vocals and, quite frankly, could give Chrome a run for their money in the Funky ElectroPop stakes. It the weather hold out for the weekend, this tune should be your summery weapon of choice.

Moon Boots reMixes Alison Valentine

After a couple of recent, stunning reMixes for the likes of Little Boots and a series of ace originals over the summer, American Disco don Moon Boots is keeping up the pressure with this new reMix of Alison Valentine’s Peanut Butter, which seems to be universally loved.

The last time we featured Moon Boots we called him “one of the best Nu-Disco producers working today”, and once again he is proving that to be true, only this time he’s working a little House into the mix. Ms. Valentine, the latest addition to The Knock’s Heavy Roc Music stable, is treated to a bass heavy, summertime, workout. Spacious production gives all the cosmic synths and Tropical percussion room to breathe amongst the infectious House piano and ‘90’s DancePop beat. It’s an amalgamation of funky fresh electronic styles all wrapped up in Moon Boots’ Disco sheen. And the perfect sunshine jam.

Visitor reMixed by Viceroy

Generally we don’t like to be all smug music writers and go on about how we get records before you grubby lot do, but in this case we kinda’ have to quickly mention that we have Visitor’s forthcoming double A-side single package, Coming Home/RNB, and it’s amazing. An easy contender for one of the releases of the year and loaded with reMixes so good it’s hard to pick a favourite. This Viceroy reMix is just one of the all killer tracks on the single.

San Francisco’s Viceroy is in good company amongst Lifelike, FM Attack, Bestrack and SymbolOne. Their reMix may be the funkiest, and most energetic. Coming Home is a true anthem anyway, and Viceroy takes that and runs with it. This is a real peak time track, working Visitor’s epic vocals into a track that is pure dancefloor joy. Rapid fire arpeggios, pin-point sharp melodies and synth pads that ring out couple with a couple rich organ drops that just accentuate the power of the track when it kicks back in. This release really is all killer, no filler. I can’t wait for you lot to hear it.

Gold Fields reMix Hunting Grounds

Australian Indie-Electro outfit Gold Fields came to our attention with their reMixes of Passion Pit and Yelle, and their track Moves (with it’s Yuksek reMix), earlier this year. Now they’ve turned their attention to felloe Antipodean Indie band Hunting Grounds who are releasing this single, Flaws, ahead of their new album, In Hindsight.

The reMix is a blissful slice of piano led Indie-Disco in that way only the Aussies can really do. Lush buzzing synths roll around in this mix that is just Indie enough for a summery party vibe and just Disco enough to get you grooving. complete with the requisite Indie-Electro “Ooo, Ooo”s and all the ingredients for a warm weather anthem, Gold Fields deliver yet another instant classic reMix.

Madeon’s ‘The City’

French wunderkind Madeon’s new single, The City, kinda feels like his first proper single. Or at least it feels like it’s approaching what we were promised with his reMixes and mashups before he was taken under Deadmau5’ wings. This finally feels like he’s not trying to make a Brostep track to fit in with his new bros or trying to impress the Mau5 with how much he can sound like him.

The City, is a big, Nu-Disco flavoured ElectroPop track. Loaded with French flare. It’s not perfect, not by a long shot, the vocals, whilst pleasingly soulful, are a bit throwaway and the final production is a little too EDM (whatever that is), but this is the closest to what we expect from Madeon, in the past couple of years, that’s he’s got so far. I don;t know, maybe his original tracks, and reMixes, were just so good that once he got himself signed the odds were already against him to deliver. Maybe it would all be alright if people stopped trying to turn him into an EDM superstar and just let him do his DiscoPop thing. Anyway, this is his best release so far, let’s hop it;s heading in the right direction.

Good Night Keaton reMixes Saint Lou Lou

If you haven’t picked up the new single from Australian girl duo Saint Lou Lou, released this week in Kitsuné, you should. It’s been stuck in my head since last week, and that’s not a bad thing. If something is going to be on repeat in your mind, then this is a pretty good song to have stuck. If you need any more convincing check out the reMix from Good Night Keaton.

Good Night Keaton, is, you’ll know by now, Aaron Shanahan, drummer form the mighty Miami Horror. having just reMixed Gigamesh he’s going from strength to strength with his deep Disco tracks. With Maybe You Good Night Keaton brings his sweeping, all encompassing, Disco to the mix which seems to completely lift the girls catchy vocal hook to a breezy Disco place. Tropical percussion and stabbing retro synths are all present and correct, but Shanahan production style owes a little to the Indie-Elector of Miami Horror, resulting in a fresh summery slice of euphoria.

Le Crayon & Oxford and Pyramid reMix Saint Lou Lou

Australian girl duo Saint Lou Lou’s Maybe You, which we featured last month, is out today on Kitsuné Music. Amongst the pretty special collection of reMixes, which includes work from CFCF and Good Night Keaton, is this luscious Nu-Disco workout from the team-up of Le Crayon & Oxford and a spacey synth epic by Pyramid.

These two Frenchmen are amazing producers of summery beach party sounds in their own rights, but together they are unstoppable. Combining their funky, carefree Disco grooves and rousing retro synth chords together results in a pure floor filler. Hazy and loaded with twang synth sounds the reMix plays up the emotional power of the original’s vocals and works that into some big dancefloor moments. This is what retro dance is all about. Pyramid’s take on the track invites us into his world of deep, analog, cosmic synths. Working with the dreamy style of the original Pyramid layers rich, evocative, synth tones against sparse beats creating an atmospheric mood of music beauty and a touch of darkness.
