[Audio] Icona Pop’s ‘It’s My Party’

icona pop

It’s My Party has been kicking around since the early-60’s Lesley Gore original, but y’all probably know it best from 1981’s SynthPop classic version from Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin. It’s a song with numerous covers under it;s belt, the most recent coming from those Swedish exponents of raucous ElectroPop Icona Pop. Actually, that;s not strictly true, the girls haven’t exactly covered the song, more just lifted the chorus, as is their wont, to create something new.

Featruing a laid back flow, and some general chit-chat, from Brooklyn MC Zebra Katz, Icona Pop’s take on It’s My Party is a bass booming, anthem canting, surprising melting pot of ideas. Icona Pop’s now-trademark, shouted vocals and abrasive synths sit alongside a thick Hip Hop influenced Dance Pop. The duo’s début album is due next month, it’ll be interesting to see whether they can deliver a range of moods.

[Audio] Cassette Club’s ‘Fire’ reMixed by Fishing Vest

Cassette Club

London ElectroPop duo Cassette Club are back next month with a brand new single of soulful Disco electronics. Fire is released in September, but ahead of the release they had made this remix of the track from recent Mullet Records signings Fishing Vest available though their Bandcamp page, just in time for another heatwave.

Fishing Vest get their Tropical groove on with this mix up between LA beach Disco and twisted synth Funk. That’s the prefect accompaniment for Cassette Club’s impassioned croon. With a nice Housey piano hook bouncing along over the Island purcussion and thick Moogy bass, this reMix serves up everything you’d want in a chilled summery floorfiller. We can’t wait to hear the rest of the EP.

[Audio] Joe Goddard reMixes Bondax’s ‘Giving It All’

Bondax

There’s some of the sweetest summer sounds you’ll hear all week right here with the latest reMix from Hot Chip and The 2 Bears’ Joe Goddard. His turned his attention to the forthcoming new single from Lancastrian duo Bondax, Giving It All. The result is pure bliss, so sit back, shades on, enjoy.

Goddard serves up a delicious medley of ringing synths, deep basses and a feel-good, yet rich, groove that stands out amongst the single other reMixes from Friend Within and French Kiwi Juice. Revelling in the track’s soulful vocals, Goddard wraps them in an almost Balearic House tune that takes a UK club sound and makes it emotionally resonant and uplifting. Everything about this reMix is just so good.

[Audio] Fenech-Soler’s ‘Last Forever’

Fenech-Soler

We had a quick look at the video for UK ElectroPop heroes Fenech-Soler’s forthcoming new single, Last Forever, earlier this month, but now the single release is drawing nearer, and indeed the release of the following sophomore album from there guys titled Rituals, it’s time to sit down, or stand up, whatever’s your preference, and give the single a listen.

Last Forever is everything you’d want, and expect, from a Fenech-Soler tune. It’s a big, anthemic Pop song. Don’t be fooled by the first 7 seconds of the song sounding like Lion’s theme to TransFormers: The Movie, Last Forever soon launches into a feel-good, summery Indie-ElectroPop monster that is, more than the previous records, set to announce Fenech-Soler’s comeback. It’s still time for this to be a summer hit.

[Audio] Miles Prower’s ‘Outatime’ EP

Miles Prower

This week Bristolian SynthWave outfit Miles Prower dropped their sophomore EP on Future City Records. With a nod to Back To The Future in it’s title, the Outatime EP serves up five tracks that see the Prowers move slightly away from a retro 80s sound into something s little cleaner, a little more digital with hints of Euphoric Trance and Progressive House in the mix.

Kicking off with the pulsating, undulating, synthetic soundscape of Tokyo, the Outatime EP contains a few tracks we’ve heard before, and a few new tunes. The EP’s title track, starring Substatic’s Colleen Quinn on vocals, we featured back in July with it’s EBM-like drive slides into Summer Song 2.1, the most traditional SynthWave tune on the EP. All the SynthWave elements are present here, arpeggiated bassline, shimmering leads, elements with are slowed down somewhat for the emotionally charged, Jarre-esque, Devices. The EP plays out on Data Streams (Into The Void). Another vocal track, featuring Coralie Kate on vocal duties, it;s a track that mixed vintage synth melodies with modern electronic sounds and late 90s Trance beats in a swirling whirlwind of sound. Another solid EP from these guts.

[Audio] Holy Ghost!’s ‘Okay’

Holy Ghost!

One of the greatest duo’s ever to come out of New York, ElectroPoppers Holy Ghost! have dropped another taste of what to expect from the forthcoming sophomore album Dynamics. We’ve already given you listen to two new tracks, Dumb Disco Ideas and Teenagers In Heat, which must have sufficiently whet your appetites for this long awaited record and this new tune, Okay, just makes us even more excited.

Okay is the albums opener and delivers a catchy entry point to the new album. Smooth and friendly, Okay revels in Holy Ghost!’s eclectic influences but remains a Pop song at it’s core. Sure, there are a couple of abrasive synth hooks, and a post-Industrial percussive pounding, but Holy Ghost! make it sound sweet with introverted vocals and a breezy, carefree mood. This is how you do interesting SynthPop.

[Audio] Le Youth reMixes Foxes’ ‘Youth’

Foxes

As we reported last week, one of ElectroPop songstress Foxes’ first tunes, Youth, is getting re-released, and as we can expect, it’s going to come with a loaded reMix package in a couple of months time. Included in that package is this slightly weird, but very cool, reMix from LA Disco producer Le Youth.

Le Youth pitched down the vocals, but not in a Chicago House way, in a was that oddly fits with what he’s done musically. Chopping and cutting the vocals over a deep Disco groove, Le Youth spins the track around with popping purcussion, sharp retro synths and an R&B swing. This is your new soundtrack for good times with good friends, even if the pitched down vocals are a tad unsettling at times.

[Audio] Rocco Raimundo reMixes Holy Models’ ‘Swimming’

holy-models_thumb

Eskimo Recordings recent accusation, Australian trio Holy Models’ new single Swimming has been causing quite a stir amongst people in-the-know int he last couple of weeks. The threesome of Adam Frawley, Mitchell Van Kaathoven and Luke McKay with a little behind the scenes help from Mr. James Curd, are due to release this début next week with a host of reMixes. One mix in particular has caught our attention, coming from Disco don Rocco Raimundo.

Rocco serves up a blistering array of poolside sounds set to a heavy, but laid back, House beat. Rolling Disco bass runs all over the tune, a synth pulsar that singes on the whole track. Hazy, delayed, vocal snatches and comfortable keys all add up to deliver a chilled, but imminently funky, seven minutes of sunshine bliss.

[Audio] Ditt Inre’s ‘Formulär 1A’ & ‘Tystnaden’

Ditt Inre

Here is a couple of track from Stockholm spacy groovers Ditt Inre. These guys will be releasing their début full length record on the awesome Cascine next month but if you want a hint of what you can look forward two, here’s two track from the post-Chillwavers’ funky shoegazy repertoire.

Formulär 1A lead off in ethereal style, and just for a moment (well, a few minutes) you are cajoled into settling into an atmospheric, haunting, audio experience, before the bounciest of Electro beats kicks in to flip the track on it’s head. The combination of swirling synth tones and dreamlike, hazy vocals with a tight dancefloor friendly beat makes for an interesting contrast, and one that works really well in this case. Tystnaden, on the other hand, leads with an irresistible synth bassline before descending, and taking you with it, into a whirlpool of cascading tones and whispered vocals. We’re very interested to hear the rest of the album.

[Audio] Tiger & Woods reMix frYars’ ‘Cool Like Me’

fryars

How much more can we write about London based ElectroPopper frYars’ sweet new single Cool Like Me? The tune’s been on rotation pretty heavily around these parts for the past month, what more is there to say? Well, now that it’s been reMixes by enigmatic US Disco duo Tiger & Woods I guess we can write a little more.

Grooving along the thin line between the funkier end of House and mirrorball vibing Nu-Disco, the secretive Tiger & Woods really let themselves go to town over the course of this nine minute epic. resting on an irresistible bassline, the reMix gets a little free-form over the top, rocking cut-up vocals, rough piano hook and a left-field arrangement to deliver a track that slowly sucks you in, and onto the dancefloor.
