Here’s a new gem from one of the best voices in the business, the legendary Billie Ray Martin. She’s teamed up once again with Italian Pop-House producers Hard Ton to drop a track that is as rich as it is funky. Deep house grooves and massive vocals, that’s what you should be expecting.

Marilyn uses a Deep House vibe to deliver some atmospheric, dramatic synth work set to a classic late 80s House bassline and Roland rim-shots. Always enveloping, never too overstated, the track provides a hypnotic and subtle backing for some huge, theatrical vocal performances. Loaded with classy, and intricate, synth elements and a nostalgic Chicago undercurrent, Marilyn is timeless House.

[Audio] Mereki – Blue Lake

So, we’ve been hearing a bit from Miami Horror drummer Aaron Shanahan’s solo offering, Good Night Keaton, particularly his début single, Next To Mexico. It’s a track that features the soulful yet quirky vocals of LA singer Mereki. Well, it turns out the girl’s not too shabby on her own!

There just the one track on her SoundCloud page, the demo version of a track called Blue Lake, and it’s pretty special. Rich, bombastic ElectroPop tempered with introspective vocals gives the track the best of both worlds. It’s like Dreamwave, Indie-Electro and Chillwave have been distilled into their pure pop essence and delivered in their logical evolutionary form. It’s a hazy, reverb washed wall of groaning synths and starburst melodies as Mereki’s breathy voice slips in and out of the track. But despite all the dreamy summer musical blur the track still manages to be insanely catchy. Definitely one to watch in 2013.

[Audio] Mild Peril’s ‘Unknown Zones’

Chris Flatline has been a staple of the London Italo/EBM scene for years now. Whether promoting, DJing and producing, he’s always brought with him interesting futuristic beats and Sci-fi synth. His current musical project is Mild Peril, melodic and atmospheric Space Italo, the moniker under which he’ll be releasing a collection of tracks from he past three years titled Voyager 2010 in the new year. As a prelude to this album, Mild Peril is releasing a free (for a limited time) EP of evocative and involving synthesizer music, Unknown Zones, First Survey.

First up we should say that this is an EP you should give yourself some time with. Set aside forty minutes with this EP and some decent headphones and just sink into it. There’s no throwaway buzz track or this weekly floorfiller here, this is intricately crafted electronic music that can carry you with it on it’s cosmic voyage and that’ll stay with you for hours after you’ve finished listening. The record is essentially carved out into three zones, each one quite an epic synthesized experience, separated by three Orbs that serve to transition from one zone to the next. Mostly lush, atmospheric soundscapes, the Orbs not only cleanse the audio pallet but create a feeling of movement between the more recognisable tracks. Alpha Zone is classic Spacesynth with an analog twist, introducing itself with a beautiful, haunting electric piano and a future noir vibe before launching into an robo Italo beast with a wealth of musical nuances. Clocking in at just under ten minutes, Gamma Zone, is the biggest voyage that awaits the listener. Spanning a variety of moods Gamma Zone delivers a synthesizer narrative with rising and falling beats and some truly emotive lead lines. The EP’s climax is, arguable, Delta Zone. The closes thing to SynthWave on the EP, Delta Zone’s rapid fire arpeggios and twisting solos take it truly into Outrun territory, but it retains the analog feel and keeps both it’s uniqueness, and it’s place amongst the EP, providing the exciting pinnacle of the release. Unknown Zones, First Survey is most definitely an EP that should be checked out by lovers of both Italo & SynthWave, and of synthesizer music in general. Make sure that you give it the attention it deserves, you will be rewarded.

[Audio] Eumig & Chinon reMix Viceroy

Last week we previewed for you the new tune from San Francisco’s Viceroy and New York Disco Pop outfit Ghost Beach, While We’re In Love. Now check out one of the reMixes from the just release single package. This one comes from Danish Dreamwavers Eumig & Chinon.

It;s actually been a fair amount of time since we heard from these guys, it must be coming up to a year since they released anything,. We though they dropped of the map, but we’re pleased to discover they haven’t, and are still rockin’ just as hard as ever. If this is a comeback reMix, they comeback hard. Laying heavy Daft Punk-esque vocoders, chainsaw Disco synths and a juggernaut slap bass groove. All complementing Ghost House’s anthemic vocal to from a huge, peak time, Electro-Disco monster that is guaranteed to destroy dancefloors wherever it drops. A very welcome back to Eumig & Chinon.

[Audio] Pandolfo & Del Gado’s ‘Better Than Me’

Just released on the awesome Mullet Records is the Better Than Me single from Italian groovers Pandolfo & Del Gado. Roping in the soulful tones of Orlando Johnson for vocal duties, here’s the Radio Edit of the track to whet your appetites.

Better Than Me is laid back Boogie in the extreme. The two Italians dish out massive helpings of deep Disco flavours, pulsating synthetic bass and a bit of a Chicago vibe with the percussion and digital keys. The track mostly rests on Johnson’s vocal though, smooth as silk with a perfect soulful House tone. The single comes backed with reMixes from Elijah Collins, Casio Social Club and Stephane Deschezeaux. Excellent stuff!

[Audio] Hot Hot Hawk’s new single

Russia’s Hot Hot Hawk have only just dropped their amazing collaboration with Patrick Baker, but they are already promoting their new single, the Pasha featuring Space Traveller. Two new releases so close together can feel a bit cramped, but that doesn’t diminish the quality of either tune. Space Traveller is released later this month with a packed reMix collection.

The original version of the track is an amazing slice of post-Kraftwerk Italo, and a schizophrenic beast. Starting off as a Cosmic Disco tribute to das robots, thick bassline playing off against the Teutonic synths, as soon as the vocals arrive Space Traveller morphs into a warm mixture of Italo and 80s Electric Soul. As the song rises and rises, with more layered sounds and soaring vocals, tit becomes pretty epic. To be honest the reMixes are a little hit and miss. The definite standouts comes from London’s 80s Stallone, who injects the SynthWave Italo with a little retro Disco, Just his subtle use of cowbell, claps and vocoders, give the track a little more groove, and DigitalNativeDance, who also turns in one of the better mixes. DND’s mix brings a Boogie flavour to the tune and emotional use of piano and Acidic synths. Summer Of Haze bring the single to a nice conclusion with a post-Chillwave marching soundscape. The rest of the reMixes are OK, but a little uninspired, but all-in-all it’s a great release.

[Audio] Strange Talk’s new single

Here is the forthcoming new single from Australia’s reining Indie-ElectroPop outfit Strange Talk. Amongst certain circles they took the end of the summer by storm with their Cast Away single (as they did the summer before with Climbing Walls). It;s hard to imagine Strange Talk releasing a song for the winter months, but let’s see what they’ve come up with.

Falling In Love is pretty typical Strange Talk fare on the surface. Big dancefloor beats, anthemic vocals, and upbeat Indie vibe, but this is probably the most commercial, and commercially dancy, track they’ve done to date. And all that rests on big piercing rave synths. Which leaves us feeling a little two-minded about the tune. One the one hand it’s an amazing song track, just as you’d expect from, brilliant ElectroPop, then on the other had you have big 90s Trance synths, which always strike us as really musically lazy. The Pop producer’s first resort to make a tune sound a bit ravey. Sounds like a Stargate production, and that’s not a good thing. Still, there’s a class tune underneath all that, hands-in-the-air brilliance (that’s why we’re posting it) and hopefully this is Strange Talks last experiment with Trance leads, we know they are better than that.

[Audio] Pelifics & Electric Youth reMixed by Poindexter

Swedish retrowave hero Pelifics’, Electric Youth featuring, Wish It Could Last is definitely one of the highlights of this year, and we’ve been waiting for Brilliantine to drop the reMix package for what seems like ages. One of the rumoured reMixes in particular has held our interest, and that’s from Disco rising star Poindexter. And here it is.

It sounds like a late 70s TV theme. Regardless of how you read that last sentence, it was intended as high praise indeed. Just the right combination of Funk and Disco have gone into this reMix, and it all works brilliantly with Bronwyn’s 80s retro vocal style. It’s a total laid back dream of a track. Rolling bass, Moogy stabs, shimmering chimes, haunting synths, all this is churned up in the mix and come out as smooth as silk. You don’t listen to this tune, it flows into you.

These guys have traded reMixes in the past, but now San Francisco’s funkiest export Viceroy and New York Disco Pop outfit Ghost Beach have teamed up on a new original tune that really does proove that Viceroy is correct, it’s “summertime, all the time”.

Even if it is deep in November, this tune will knock the chilly cobwebs out of your skull and get you moving like you’re at a pool party. Boasting layers and layers of funky synths, raging from a pumping digital bass to some rich, stabbing, chords, that all provides the grooviest of backings for Ghost Beach to belt out some summer anthem style vocals. Bringing back the sun! The track is available to buy very soon, we can;t wait to see who’s in the reMix line-up.
