[Audio] Ren Riz’s ‘Day Dream’

Ren Riz

The latest release from awesome French label On The Fruit Records comes from one other than electronic rumors alumni  Ren Riz. We’ve been featuring this Aussie producer’s tracks for as long as the site has been around and this forthcoming single is one of his best.

Out later this month, Day Dream sees Ren getting funky with an irresistible syncopated bassline that is it physically hard not to move to. This massive slice of Robo-Disco keeps things synthetic with an Italo twist. Loaded with heavy synth sounds and a touch of added cowbell, Day Dream is a prime addition to the On The Fruit roster. Funky and fun, this is one to keep the party going.

[Audio] Kate Boy’s ‘In Your Eyes’

Kate Boy

Early last month we featured Northern Lights, the début single from Sweedish ElectroPop band Kate Boy. We still don’t know that much about them, but since then they’ve generated quite a buzz. This new trio is set to release the track early next year on IAMSOUND Records and we can now have a listen to Northern Lights’ B-side. The pounding In Your Eyes.

In Your Eyes presents a huge sound, with a sonic pallet not dissimilar to mid-80s Depeche Mode, with razor sharp digital synths and an almost Industrial feel. The rousing vocal slips between chilly Scandi
Pop and euphoric exuberance with ease which the rhythm heavy music is compellingly relentless whist holing on to a tundral edge. There have, of course, been many comparisons to The Knife (something seemingly unavoidable for Scandinavian ElectroPop acts), but Kate Boy display more of an IndiePop sensibility in their tunes, and we can’t wait to hear more.

Kate Boy’s Northern Lights is due out on 22nd January.

[Audio] Chromeo reMixes Boys Noize

boys noize

We were a bit hot-and-cold when it came to Electro superstar Boys Noize’s new album Out Of The Black. Half of it was really good, the other half seems to be a bit by-the-numbers, and we would have expected more in 2012. One of the highlights of the record, if not the best track, was the album’s first single What You Want. This modern Electro re-imagining of PIL’s Order Of Death gave us really high hopes for Out Of The Black, so if he was going to get one of our favourite duos of all-time, Chromeo, to reMix anything, we are glad it was that.

And that’s what happened. The Chromeo reMix of What You Want actually starts off sounding more like Dave 1 and P-Thugg severely funking up the PIL track, before the just make it totally their own, after a while there’s next to no trace of the Boys Noize track left and what you’re left with is some amazing, funky tune loaded with Chromeo’s trademark talk box work, their trademark piercing synths and Dave 1 giving it some vocal passion. Perfect work, and a new Chromeo track. Which is, coincidentally, what we wanted.

Boys Noize’s What You Want is released 14th January and includes reMixes from Jacques Lu Cont, Jimmy Edgar and D.I.M.

[Audio] SaiR’s new EP

SaiR

Well, this is a nice surprise for the end of the week. One of our favourite SynthWave artists, Portuguese producer Ruben Allen, A.K.A. SaiR, has just released a shiny new EP on none other than Rosso Corsa Records. It’s been a while since we heard from SaiR, but it looks like his time hasn’t been going to waste.

The Sunfield EP holds four tracks from SaiR output in the last couple of years, each one loaded with a sweet nostalgic synth Funk. Kicking off with Clockwise, rocking an Electro-Funk bassline and a punchy buzzing lead. Clockwise twists it’s way through Disco, SynthWave and Funk, revelling in the best of each with some glorious synth sounds and melodic playing. Shoreline conjures a mood of lazy afternoons in the sun with it’s laid back vintage synth style and some dreamy melodies. Sunfield delivers an even more chilled groove that sees SaiR getting a little synth Jazzy while Bright merges the best LA Funk with, and Herbie Hancock style keyboard wizardry, with blissful Dreamwave. If you’re a fan if Disco, Funk or SynthWave this EP is a must. Also, the guy on the cover (pictured above) is Ruben’s old-man, in the 70s, dirt-biking it!

[Audio] The Other Tribe’s ‘Sing With Your Feet’

the other tribe

Bristolian rabble rousers The Other Tribe, who played a couple of absolutely blinding sets at Bestival this year, are swiftly following up the summer anthem Skirts, with a brand new single that comes loaded with Tropical House vibes. Sing With Your Feet is released this weekend.

Our hometown six-piece have already has the Dub version of this tune featured on The Magician’s last Magic Tape, but the vocal version takes things to the next level. It’s a deep track that mixes up a House beat and bassline with some blissful Tropical musical percussion. The Other Tribe are definitely showing a knack for delivering anthemic Indie-Electro, and Sing With Your Feet, like Skirts, is a sure fine party starter. Interestingly “Sing With Your Feet” is an ancient Aztec expression for dancing, as they didn’t have another word to describe it, that’s where The Other Tribe got it from. Cool huh?

[Audio] Goldroom & SLL (Saint Lou Lou)

Goldroom

OK, so first we have to address that Sweden based Australian twin sisters Saint Lou Lou aren’t Saint Lou Lou any more, now they’re just SLL. Is this a good move?, we doubt it (every-time I see it I immediately think SSL), but whatever, they still sound as sweet as ever. Perhaps more than ever as they team up with one of the most talented artists around right now, Goldroom.

Riding high on the worldwide success of his Fifteen single, featuring Chela on vox, Josh Legg brings a little summer sun into our chilly winter nights. The dreamy harmonies of Sain…SLL are a perfect match for that Goldroom flavour. Here Josh get’s a little more Poppy than usual, bringing his nautical vibe with a robust bassline and shimmering Island synths to a straight-up ElectroPop track, giving it a Tropical twist. The result is a truly blissful tune that kinda’ shines like when the sun’s ray catch the water. So brilliant it’s blinding.

[Audio] Chvrches reMix ultraísta

ultraísta

The ElectroPop name on everyone’s lips right now, Glasgow three piece Chvrches (yes, we’ve all given in to the ‘v’ now…) have produced their first reMix. Time to see if their amazing production can hold up when dealing with other peoples songs as they take on ultraísta’s Gold Dayzz (for the fain of heart amongst our readership, I’ll save you the tension and let you know that yes, yes it does hold up).

ultraísta are a three piece with some kind of production like to Radiohead, I’ll be honest, we hadn’t heard of them, although further investigation revealed some quite nice indeed Downtempo and Electronica. enter Chvrches, though, to spice things up a little and open the track up to some of their rich, emotive electronics and they inject the tune with a roaring synth bass, snappy beats and melodies sharp as a knife. The hazy vocals of the original drift in and out of pulsating arpeggios as the whole song build and build to a truly euphoric finale. So…Chvrches can reMix too then…good to know.

[Audio] Xtrafunk’s new tune

Xtrafunk

Out next month is the new single from one of 2012’s rising stars, German producer Xtrafunk. This guy has been making a name for himself ,over the summer, as a purveyor of shimmering beach part vibes and a retro funk sound. His latest single features some smooth vocals from Loumar and Nas, which just add to Xtrafunk blissful mood.

We’re just about to hit December, and here in London things are pretty chilly, but Deep Down’s smooth retro chords and wicked little licks have the power to warm us right up. Loumar’s silky,  soulful, vocal glides over the track likes walking on air while beneath her velvety tones Xtrafunk rocks warm electric piano, feel-good percussion and a track that rises and falls. Building toward the choruses and easing you back down for the verses. Beach party Disco for the winter months. Xtrafunk has delivered.

[Audio] Monsieur Adi reMixes Don Diablo

diablo

Monsieur Adi’s back with a brand new reMix. The French wizard uploaded his latest sounds to his SoundCloud page today and it’s a stormer, and one we first heard in his latest mixtape. He’s delivered his take on Don Diablo forthcoming new single, the Noonie Bao featuring M1 Stinger, and it’s a track that really let’s Adi play around and do what he loves.

In all honestly we haven’t been overly keen on anything Diablo has done since Animale, but we’ve been constantly loving every scrap of Adi’s post-Nu-Disco output, we easily rate him as on of the most talented musicians working in dance music right now, his latest experimentations have been nothing short of beautiful. Within his reMix of M1 Stinger is everything you’d want from an Adi track, a rich string section, head-nodding Electro beats and  an added layer of melody as Adi twists the vocal, using it as another instrument in his orchestra. Speaking of the vocal, it’s actually really sweet, Bao’s tone works really well with the new, introspective, Adi. All these emotive elements culminate in a screaming synth solo. The track is beautiful, there’s not a lot more than that we can say.

[Audio] The Good Natured’s ‘5-HT’

The Good Natured

Well, it looks like The Good Natured is finally on her way to releasing her début album. It’s been quite a road, and one that has been a pleasure to watch,  Sarah (without wanting to sound pretentious) has done it properly. No flash-in-the-pan success or unnatural blog hype. The Good Natured’s rise has been build on hard work and developing a fan base at a sustainable rate. In advance of the album comes a new EP 5-HT, named after the chemical in the brain that releases serotonin, and it’s a bit mental.

The Good Natured goes Rave. that’s what’s going on here, proper Old School breakbeat and orchestral stab Rave. In the choruses at least. What 5-HT does is neatly mix-up Sarah’s introspective Indie-Electro with big hands-in-the-air moments. Richard X was behind the desk for this tune, we’re not sure who the frantic drums and laser-light vibe is down to him or now, either way is a surprising, but amazing prelude of what’s to come.

♫ The Good Natured – 5-HT (Edit)

The Good Natured’s 5-HT is released March 10th 2013, reMixes from Kat Krazy, Ghostwerk remix and Sarah’s cover of Fine Young Cannibals’ She Drives Me Crazy.
