Lily Allen reMixed by Keadz

Lily Allen

Wow, haven’t written about Lily Allen in years, honestly didn’t think I would be again either but Belgian producers Keadz have breathes some new Disco into Lily’s ‘Fuck You’.

Smooth and slinky, they’ve broken out the Funk synths and the, er, glockenspiel and the end result is Lily’s political rant is transformed into a tropical beach Disco tune.

Russ Chimes reMixes TEETH

teeth

Russ Chimes’s reMixes may be more and more moving away from the retro synth sound but the man ever remains the king of intricate, immaculately produced dance tunes.

His latest reMix, for Dalston nutcases TEETH, is loaded with House, Balearic and surprisingly, euphoric Trance (that riff is pure hands-in-the-air). This track is going to kill at sunrise. The EP also holds reMixes from CSS and Brassica.

Queen Of Hearts’ ‘Spanish Sahara’

queen of hearts

Massive Disco tunes are all well and good. They’re what gets out blood pumping, they’re what gets our hearts racing, but sooner or later an artist has got to prove there is more to them than dancefloor euphoria. Queen Of Hearts has just done that.

Her latest track, ‘Spanish Sahara’, is a Dreamtrak produced classic SynthPop song. Powerful, emotional, haunting and passionate but tempered with that feels like a little of that British dry humour that works so well in SynthPop (a le Pet Shop Boys), ‘Spanish Sahara’ is on repeated listenings in incredibly sophisticated song. Just take the narrative advancement from the “I’m the fury in your head” refrain to “choir of furies in your head”, a subtle shift that drives the drama of the song. A drama that Dreamtrak’s production follows with a contemporary take on Depeche Mode epics that is perfectly designed to show off The Queen’s impassioned vocal. ‘Spanish Sahara’ comes from Queen Of Heart’s début record, ‘The Arrival EP’, which we’re starting to get pretty excited about round these parts.

Also, how cool is the imagery of “like a Lilo loosing air”?!

–Edit– Thanks to The Guardian (who apparetly are confused as to the meaning of ‘exclusive’) I now know that this is a cover of a Foals track. *Shrug*. So it seems many of my compliments should be directed at the Foals’ lyricist. Nice job Dude, pity you can’t do anything interesting with your verse. I’ll take digital bass and Queenie over gangly guitars and gut-wrenchingly bland vocals any day.

Queen Of Hearts’ ‘The Arrival EP’ is out soon, until then check out more from Queen Of Hearts On SoundCloud.

Cavaliers Of Fun’s new EP

Cavaliers Of Fun

It’s been a long time coming, but Ricco Vitali A.K.A., Cavaliers Of Fun, finally drops his first EP for ‘the ever-awesome Holographic People’ today.

When you see an EP title like ‘Sharing Space Secrets’ you know you’re in for a treat. The EP sees Vitali mixing up a number of cool, good weather styles in one big melting pot. There are hints of Electro-Indie, snatches of LA Dreamwave, a Nu-Disco groove, bits of Tropical and Balearic vibes, but overall I was quite surprised. I was expecting the kind of vintage synthed cosmic Disco I had come to expect from Cavalier’s Of Fun, what you get in this EP, though, is something more intimate, more musical, more akin to clash between East Coast Indie and West Coast Disco. This new found blending of Vitali’s sweeping vocals, Sci-Fi synthesizers and lilting Indie guitar really works in these five tracks and makes the EP a Summer must. I’m going to be reaching for the ‘Sharing Space Secrets’ EP everytime the weather gets good. Here’s our pick of the EP.

Starlings reMixed by The Sanfernando Sound

starlings

Whoa! Manchester SynthWave producer The Sanfernando Sound  gets positively EBM on his new reMix for Indie foursome Starlings.

His reMix of their new single ‘Dark Arts’ is an electronic powerhouse of the kind normally found blowing up dark German basement clubs. Layer upon layer of minor key arpeggios instil a sense of dancefloor doom with relentless drums an bass. What elevates this over the usual post-FuturePop EBM stuff is The Sanfernando Sound’s ear for the trappings of a quality Pop song. The big electro tom rolls, the occasional drops, and the flawless integration with the original vocals, it’s this attention to detail that make TSS’s production such a success. This is a dark and dangerous dancefloor monster.

The Magician’s ‘I Don’t Know What To Do’ EP

themagician

In exactly one months time The Magician unleashes his début solo single, ‘I Don’t Know What To Do’, on Kitsuné Music.

By now you’ve already heard the original track, featuring Jeppe on vocals. It’s got that hypnotic late ‘80’s House piano sound and Jeppe’s anthemic chant combine with thick, lush synths to make a track that will uplift dancefloors worldwide. the EP is chock full of awesomeness too, reMixes come correct from Plastic Plates, Second Date and our boy Fabian. Second Date bring some seriously deep Disco to the table with an almost sub bassline and beach guitar forming the basis for their brand of Disco, and unusual mix definitely. Plastic Plates always come through with the goods and here is no different. Synthetic Electro Disco loaded with my beloved electro toms. PP’s reMix has this slick jazzy synth lead that sets a really nice groove for the track. But it’s the man Fabian who really blows this EP up, starting his track understated with a smoothly building arpeggio that soon gives way to a massive LA Dreamwave track with a booty shaking Funk bass that moves your body while the thick synth chords send your brain to the stratosphere.
