Rex The Dog takes Mason way back

I love Rex The Dog’s recent burbling Acid/ElectroPop reMixes, this reMix of Mason’s ‘Little Angel’ is the best so far.

It’s a deep 80’s jam at heart, the 808 and Acid bassline are pure Summer Of Love, but Rex has expertly layered over the top a shimmering and think ElectroPop tune. The result is a Moroder-esque DiscoPop tune of epic proportions complete with wailing guitar. Vocals on the track are provided by Aqualung which are kept largely intact in this mix, adding to the power and drive of ‘Little Angel’/

Florrie’s ‘Experimenting With Rugs’

Florrie’s ‘Experimenting With Rugs’ will be featured on her second EP. She explains in this blog post how she keeps independent, and why (although I’m sure working for Xenomania doesn’t really hurt her situation), which is pretty unusual for an artist, to explain where their money comes from in such detail. To be honest Florrie seems to have it really together and will probably make more from her music than if she was on a major.

Florrie’s ‘Experiments’ EP is out 14th June,

Apparently, bustin’ makes SaiR feel good

I don’t know what to say about this really.

SaiR’s pretty much made my weekend re-editing Ray Parker Jr.’s ‘Ghostbusters’, he’s done a really good job too.

Just listen.

Lazydisco’s ‘More Tigers’

Lazydisco is Fred Oliveira from Rockets, and he’s about to drop a brand new single on Discotexas.

‘More Tigers’ is an incredibly summery slice of quite laidback Disco which kinda’ works on three layers. There’s a layer of nice 80’s chords for that nostalgic feelgood factor, them some cosmic synth work which create a chilled vibe toped of with some 90’s House piano which nicely keeps the energy going. That’s a recipe for success! reMixes come courtesy of a whole host of awesome artists such as In Flagranti, The C90s, Xinobi, Mirror People, MODE and this track from Coupons who go deep and progressive on the tune with a hypnotic and slightly oriental flavour.

Peter & The Magician’s ‘Twist’ EP

Peter & The Magician, also known as Yuksek and Stephen Fasano, ex-one half of Aeroplane, recently dropped their début EP in Kitsuné Music, and what an EP is it.

There is something really authentically retro about the three tracks on the ‘Twist’ EP. the title track you will have already heard by now, it featured on Kitsuné’s ‘Maison 11’, it’s like an stripped down, analog, Yuksek track. The other two tracks go deeper down the 80’s rabbit hole. ‘La Fiorentia’ is a Vince Clarke-esque ElectroPop instrumental with a Yellow Magic Orchestra melody, and ‘Love In Rimini’, my personal favourite, is B-Boy Electro incarnate with a Sci-Fi Disco. twist Awesome stuff.

Moustache Machine reMixes Cassius

Parisian Italo Disco dude Moustache Machine had reMixed Cassius ‘Toop Toop’.

Throwing the original’s syncopated Indie out the window MM give us a bassline heavy ElectroPop track that soars high above the dancefloor. The track has a nice combination of all that’s good in retro synth music. An Italo bassline, some nice Synth Funk solos and keeps the raucous vocals intact to ramp up the energy.

Goldroom

The melodic Indie end of Dreamwave, NightWaves, are in the process of finishing up their début album, but while that goes on NightWaves/Binary main man Josh is also expressing himself in the form of his brand new solo project Goldroom.

Cool licks, dreamy synths and Josh’s heartfelt vocal style are the order of the day here. The three tracks josh has unleashed on the world vary in sound, from the Funk tinged Indie-Dance of ‘Morgan’s Bay’ to the DiscoPop of ‘Nights In Nantes’, but the vibe running throughout is the epitome of Binary. One of summer days, late nights and good times, and that vibe ties the tracks together nicely. It’s kinda’ a sweet mix of influences actually, there’s a Disco groove, some nice Indie licks, some bits of 80’s Pop and R&B, all wrapped up in a atmospherically evocative package. Goldroom could be the new soundtrack to your summer city nights.
