Jordan F’s ‘Summers Of Tomorrow’ redux

Australia’s finest SynthWave export Jordan F originally released the Summers Of Tomorrow EP last year. It was kinda’ just before the excursion with his alter-ego Countach. Now he’s fully back in Jordan F mode he’s revisited the EP, it’s been refreshed, remastered and has a little track list tweak. The all-new Summers Of Tomorrow EP is heading your way right now.

Beginnings kicks of the EP, and the differences are readily apparent. This version is a lot slicker. Gone is the abrasive bass sound, replaced by a more atmospheric tone, and the whole production is a lot more well rounded. Everything sits together a lot nicer, for an instrumental, soundtrack peice such as this it makes all the difference. Whilst the original has an Italo rawness, these track sound a lot more mature. Abandoned Streets is abandoned in favour of it’s Crime In Fourth Sector counterpart, and again, the remastering is a revelation. Softening the gritty synth work allows the rhythm a section to carry the song a lot more fluidly. The neon drenched dystopia theme works it way into the track a lot better with this version, the powerdrive soundtrack Electro feeling more comfortable with itself. Dream Machine, the EP’s new addition, was obviously written with unicorns in mind, a pulsing electronic haze that Vangelis would have been proud of. Renegade probably benefits the most from the reworking, the whole track working as a rich emotive Italo stomper much better with everything lying tighter in the mix. The EP’s title track, a outro, Summers Of Tomorrow, is here fully allowed to realise it’s epic, Sci-Fi, majesty without the drums overbearing. Actually, it’s the drums where you hear the biggest difference in this remastering, they don’t dominate the tracks anymore, they become part of them. Jordan F is easily in the top five musicians making SynthWave right now, without a doubt, but this new found maturity to his productions will push him even higher. There may be an album coming soon, and that’s exciting as hell.

Young Digerati’s ‘Endless Bummer reMixed’

Bay Area Indie-ElectroPop outfit Young Digerati’s recent ‘Endless Bummer EP was a skilful mix of jangly Indie and retro ElectroPop. A lot more guitary than their previous output, something that normally has us on the fence, the EP did contain some catchy tunes. Good news then that some of the finest SynthWave reMix talent has come along to give those tunes a good old synth workout. Smooth grooves incoming.

The whole EP, all five tracks, are all pretty superb, ranging from Electro-House, to Italo to Dreamwave, but out picks would be the work contributed by Silenx, 80s Stallone and Sex By Surprise. Silenx wow us one again with his super slick production on his reMix of Peak Performance. Injecting a little more funk into his sound than usual, Joel goes full on Cosmic Disco. Adding the core of the last couple of years of some of the best SynthWave around, he adds some funky slap bass and Moog-esque stabs, to a truly galactic Funk experience. Also taking on Peak Performance, 80s Stallone hits the ground running with his 80’s sound, immediately Italo, from the arpeggiated bassline to the EuroPop riff, before raising the track up with some big retro chords. The vocal is used sparsely in 80’s Stallone’s take, but Chris Stallone’s melodies more than make up for it. The EP rounds off with SxS’s robotic Electro take on Young Digetati’s biggest tune to date, The Dauphin. Normally associated with a laid back beach party vibe, SxS turn the track into an Electro-House anthem, packed with nervous energy and bright, intertwining, synth lines. Did we mention the EP is free, that’s five top quality tunes for no money whatsoever. Bargain!

Like Vipers

Like Vipers is new new UK Electro-House producer who is just about to release his début EP. With a sound the bridges the gap between the Electro-House end of Nu-Disco and SynthWave his new EP, titled Dangerous, released next month on Bonerizing is four tracks of power Outrun.

It’ll be hard to write about the Dangerous EP without mentioning Kavinsky and Danger, particularly Danger, so we’ll just get that out the way now, because we are talking in the same ballpark, there’s e a bit of Mille in there too. But whilst Like Vipers shares a lot in common with his contemporaries, he also manages to craft out a sound of his own. Dramatic, cinematic and full of bombast Like Vipers’ tune are a relentless action set-peice. After the ominous opening of Cold Steel comes Accelerator, a hard hitting night-drive Electro extravaganza who’s centrepiece is a stratospheric solo. For a track with power drums and chainsaw synths, the tune has some hauntingly beautiful moments. Pulseheart continues the EPs quest to soundtrack your high-speed chases, if you’re the kind of person who has high-speed chases, while Dangerous brings a little Italo groove into all this pedal-to-the-metal Electro power. the whole EP is a juggernaut of SynthWave. An emotional, exciting, noisy, chaotic, soaring experiance that leaves Like vipers a name to watch.

Android Automatic

Android Automatic is a Detroit based SynthWave project. His SoundCloud page is chock full of bouncy electronic tunes with a strong ‘80’s leaning. He;s just dropped a new double A-side single, available for free, Electric Nights & Starset.

Electric Nights shows the real complexity of Android Automatic’s work, not quite disco enough to be Nu-Disco, but more Disco than most SynthWave, AA’s tunes chug along on an Italo groove, a digital bassline that would make Moroder proud and doesn’t scrimp on the big retro synth chords. It’s an infectious slick of Electro Boogie that really gets under your skin, floaty vocoders and all. Starset has more of a cosmic Italo vibe to it, a track with an energetic drive to it, the on-beat bassline pushing the track ever forward, driven faster by shuffling hats. This two track single is a great introduction to Android Automatic, who is definitely one to look out for in future.

While you’re here, check out our favouite of Android Automatic’s tunes, Dreaming In Color. A deep vocoded ElectroPop tune. It’s far too short, but in it’s two and a half minutes it delivers a rich Sci-Fi sound and an almost Indie quality to it. A longer version of this track could be epic.

Final DJs’ ‘Just Be Free’

So, this weekend marks the *coughiest* *cough* birthday of Mr. Basti from Germany’s finest SynthWave duo Final DJs. These guys have come so far in the past two years, we’ve been following them since their first productions to where they are now, their Gossip Country EP was massive and generally everything the release is pretty killer.

In celebration of Basti’s birthday, Final DJs have dropped a new tune, and if, like us, you have a soft spot for Michael McDonald’s Sweet Freedom then you’re going to love this. Just Be Free is a big French Touch tune, thick with groove. Heavy with retro synths and warm filtering, this is a tune in the mould of the classics of French House. The perfect synthetic Disco to move dancefloors late into the night and Michael McDonald’s smooth-as-silk vocal is just the icing on the cake, the birthday cake if you will. We suggest you join us in wishing Basti a happy birthday and hoping he has an awesome weekend.

Goldroom’s ‘Pacific’

Goldroom’s latest tune, Pacific, comes from a free EP released by Scion Audio/Visual, Sharkwaves Vol. 2, you can download it here, then own for yourself what we consider on of the highlights of Josh’s career. After the runaway success of the insanely infectious Fifteen Josh bring is back down a notch with Pacific, giving anyone who just really digs synth sounds a glorious five minutes.

The track revolves around these massive Vangelis-esque chords, simple yet beautiful, and keeps itself quite low key. Simple beats, roomy production and a laid back vibe all let the track breathe. This freedom the tune seems to poses in turn allows you to be drawn into it’s many layers. It allows you to sit amongst the little melodies that fly left and right and be carried away with the song as new refrains get drawn to the surface. Haunting and involving, it’s testament to the tracks absorbing qualities that I’m supposed to be sitting here writing about it, yet, I have just listened to it six times whist staring off into space. Just get into it.

Com Truise’s ‘In Decay’

This week SynthWave superstar Com Truise released his interim record In Decay on Ghostly International. We say ‘interim’, as it’s not his next album proper, it’s a collection of rarities that have only been available online in demo form, or not at all. Most of the track come from the pre ‘Cyanide Sisters’ era. While we wait with baited breath for this master of retro synthetics’ new album, this is the perfect way to pass the time.

The album’s opener, the appropriately titled Open, is one of the collection’s standouts and paves the way for a record that despite it’s original, isn’t some group of rough tracks, this is a proper Com Truise album. As skilfully executed and slickly produced as anything you’d expect from the Seth Haley. There’s no-one around really who’s doing SynthWave quite like Com Truise. There’s a lot of atmospheric SynthWave artists right now soundtracking a dystopian future, but there isn’t many producers mixing that up with a real vintage, gritty feel with influences that range from experimental electronica and B-Boy Electro. It’s quite a unique niche in the SynthWave pantheon that Com Truise has carved out for himself. Following Open is the blissful ‘84’ Dreamin’, a laid back, nostalgic, jam driven by heavy LFOs. The album dolls out, in equal portions, heaps of Cosmic Funk with the likes of Controlpop and Smily Cyclops and lush Dreamwave as head on Colorvision and, particularly, Alfa Beach. At times Haley descends into his own dark future world resulting in harsh electronic grooves such as Yxes, but overall the album is washed in those Com Truise right synth tones and soaring leads that we love him for. There’s even a hint of Synth/Post-Punk hybrid in the mix with Dreambender. In Decay does sound like older Com Truise material, but that’s no bad thing, merely a reminder of the Com Truise magic, and all the more reason to eagerly await his next move.

Arc Neon’s début EP

We wrote about new Synth wave crafter Arc Neon a while back. Rising from the ashes of Indie-Electro outfit Wolf And Yeti this London based producer has a knack for blending vintage synth sounds and samples from ‘80’s TV. News reports, adverts, you name it, Arc Neon will make a track out of it.

The man has just released a new EP, Wet Dreams, his début complete release. And an impressive début it is too. Kicking of with is standout track, Spring Break (Lisa’s Theme), a complex and intricate five minute epic . Whilst the track’s rich electronic tapestry and sense of dark drama never really mesh with teenage rabble rousing of the Spring Break news report samples, this doesn’t detract from what is a driving and emotionally resonant synth tune. There’s some insanely good riffs in this tune and a multi layered Italo style production that gets pitch perfect at times. On Riot the music and sampled subject matter gel a lot better. The report of prison riots plays well with the arpeggiated, almost old school EBM, bassline and switchblade lead lines. Also house within this package are the previously posted Beyond Our Control and synthetic sleaze-fest Looking For A Goddess. Arc Neon has laid down his manifesto here, and it’s one that will no doubt see him shoot to the top of the SynthWave scene.

Worship’s ‘Arcane’

Worship

This is a bit of a treat. While we are waiting for Swiss SynthWave producer Worship’s soon to be released new EP, here’s a brand new track he has delivered. And it has us more eager than ever for his new record.

Arcane is a SynthWave track at heart, but plays around with the sound in ways we haven’t heard before. Dropping a Speak & Spell vocal over the top of a relentless Italo bassline give the track the ability to swing from gritty Electro riffs to rich, rousing synth chords. The track is a nice mix of SynthWave, Kraftwerk and Italo, pumping and sweet at the same time. We’re hoping Worship’s new EP comes around some time soon.
