Friday night sees the return of Dreamwave superstars Futurecop! to London as the play a full live set at Surya on Pentonville Road.
But that’s not all, in tow are electronic rumors’ crew members New Arcades, whose self titled début EP we released last month to critical acclaim.
It’s sure to be a night packed with the finest ElectroPop, SynthWave and Nu-Disco, so if you’re in the area get you asses down to Surya, and don’t forget your dancing shoes.

Here’s the latest blissed out slice of hazy synth gold from Canada’s Wolf Saga. Increasingly featuring his vocals in his tunes seems to have allowed Mr. Saga to express himself in a much fuller way. This particular tune, Always With Me, sees the Wolfman working though some issues of peeps growing apart. and getting Chillwavey with it too.
And while he’s working otu some issues, Wolf Saga is going to deliver a big, bombastic, Indie-Electro tune that full of swirling synths and heart. It’s a sweet introspective song, with a sound that’s largest that it would at first suggest. From the growling synth bass to the sparking chimes, the track fills the speakers in a way you don’t often expect from quaint Indie-Electro. Wolf Saga is going from strength to strength, we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

Bristolian SynthWave outfit Miles Prower are set to follow up on April’s Pneumatic EP with a new release in the coming months. The new EP is titled Outatime, which we can only hope is a Back To The Future reference, if not it should be, and the title track sees the Prowers once again teaming up with Substatic’s Colleen Quinn for a little vocal spice.
Miles Prower lay down a driving Italo, slightly EBM groove here, all flying arpeggios and a gritty dark future mood. As with a couple of the tracks on their début EP, there’s a slight Trance influence going on here too, it’s all very rousing hands-in-the-sir stuff. Helped in part by Colleen’s moody performance that breaks into epicness in the choruses. Boosted by a multi layered arrangement, both musically and vocally, this is probably Miles Prower’s biggest song to date. We’re intrigued to hear the rest of the EP.

This week SynthWave king Mitch Murder combines two of our passions in life, 80s sounding synth tunes and B-Boy Electro, on his latest offering. Breakazoid is Mitch getting his Boogie on with a glorious mix of Electro, Electronic Soul, Boogie and 80s Pop.Mr. Murder’s last few tunes have been produced with his epic soundtrack hat on, this one delves a little more into Mitch’s considerable, but slightly less shown-off talent for groove.
Breakazoid has got that late Electro sound, reminiscent of the mid to late 80s when the street sounds of New York had filtered into chart Pop. You still have the B-Boy beats, and punchy digital bass but with a sparkly high-class production sheen. And that’s that Mitch Murder shows off here so well, Breakin’ vibes with Pop sensibilities. We love this track, and would love to hear it with some upbeat female vocals too.

The new one from Brooklyn based SynthWavers Emeron & Fox is something a bit different, by their standards at least. In tune with the increasing mood of lazy summer evenings (well, for me anyway) the duo present the timely release of Arms Out. More in keeping with their début single, the haunting Nightmares, than more recent, more upbeat, offerings, Arms Out sees these guys slip back into a dreamlike mode.
There’s would be a chance you could find Arms Out a little unsettling, with it’s ethereal vocals and ghostly electric piano, if it wasn’t for the warm old school Hip Hop beats and Disco bass. There’s something irresistibly funky about this track, you can’t help but nod your head and get into it. So when it’s siren song curls around your head like smoke and those strangely uplifting synth drones in the chorus kick in it makes for an unusual combination of groovy and enigmatic, but a combination that Emeron & Fox make work.

It was a year ago, almost to the day, that we reviewed Pittsburgh SynthWaver Arcade High’s début début album The Art Of Youth. We’re not sure if that’s a coincidence but this week, via the medium of label Telefuture, Ryan Boosel has unleashed his latest long player, titled Pixel Passion. Coming digital and physical formats (with the limited edition CD coming in a fancy, hand-crafted case mode from repurposed Nintendo cartridges) in packages that include treasures such as glossy posters and badges., Arcade High has really pulled the stops out for this release.
So, to the album. We really enjoyed his first outing, and especially his material with vocals, which luckily there is a few lurking about on Pixel Passion. In the last year or so Arcade High have risen to the top of the SynthWave pack, and that’s partly due to his originality. Rather than playing the same old Italo basslines and pseudo-80s tropes, Arcade High carves out a sound all of his own. Rolling ChipTune (in abundance), IndiePop and SynthPop into the SynthWave mix to create something instantly recognisable. As soon as the albums opening, title track launces into it’s retro synth/8-bit mixture, with frantic bitcrushed bass, gentle vocals and soaring vintage console leads, you know what you;re in for with the rest of the album. As the record moves onto One Year Ago you’re treated to how well Arcade High uses these influences. Where as the ChipTune crowd are content with recreating video game music of old, Arcade High takes those sounds and weaves them into beautiful, emotional, ElectroPop songs that take full advantage if the unique character of that sound pallet. But never lets the sounds control the songs, it’s always songs first. Without You, the Hannah Edwards featuring album centrepiece, is an epic, rousing slice of ElectroPop euphoria which a cool Indie vibe running through it, which leads into Outrun This! which seems to lean more toward the arcade cabinet than the genre. Running To You bring us back to more familiar SynthWave territory until Ryan busts in with some sweet vocoded vocals to deliver one of the albums highlights alongside the brooding, cinematic Electro of Night Of The Genesis. If you love the SynthWave sound, but are becoming a little burnt out on it and crave the same atmosphere but with a little originality injected into it, or if you love ElectroPop and have a fondness for 80s video games, or if you just love electronic music, well crafted with love, then you should definitely take this album out a spin.

This is the new video for 1980s Summer Breakup, a SynthWave collaboration between retro influenced songstress Dana Jean Phoenix and producer Sunglasses Kid. An authentically 80s sounding Pop epic.
Directed by PHATT al, the clip plays into the track’s nostalgia with a soft focus array of good times.

UK based Nu-Disco producer Blende has applied his skills to French Horn Rebellion’s current single, Dancing Out, a track that’s still getting some play around here in it’s own right, but Blende takes the retro synth vibe and turns it up to 11 in this storming new version of the tune.
Blende works a truck load of epic SynthWave into his Nu-Disco framework right here, resulting in a truly soaring mix. Taking Jody Watley & Young Empires vocal track and keeping it largely intact, Blende gives them a whole new level of cinematic synths and twisting Funk hooks. This is one massive mix, be prepared for you head to be full of winding synth riffs and retro stabs..
