Francophilippe’ new album

Francophilippe

Champagne Records bare back with another awesome, and free, release. Newcastle Nu-Disco producer Francophilippe delivers a whole album of funked up cuts.

‘Fonkophile’ is a collection of his works to date and perfectly shows off his slick Disco sound. The album contains 14 tracks and each one displays Francophilippe talent for combining the traditional smooth Nu-Disco sound with the kind of chopped-up Ed Banger-esque French Electro of SebastiAn. ‘Fonkophile’ is a pretty prolific collection of two years work, if I had one tiny, tiny complaint it’s that Francophilippe can occasionally be heavy handed with his Sidechaining, going beyond the desired effect and sounding like the track is being dunked in and out of a swimming pool, but that’s just nit-picking really. All-in-all ‘Fonkophile’ is an awesome release.

Monsieur Adi reMixes Justice

justice

Thankfully, despite Justice’s new album, ‘Audio, Video, Disco’, being disappointing and more than a little bland there is still a wealth of material that is just ripe for reMixing, and we can think of no-one better than Monsieur Adi for the job.

Adi injects the tune with his trademark bombast , slowly building and layering in what could almost be described as deep Electro Gospel which beats the original’s Prog Rock hands down. Strangely, Adi’s French Touch and Strings approach seems to capture the feel of the track better than the original ever did.

Final DJs’ ‘One Day In The Sun’

finaldjs

Well, finally. Someone has snapped up Germany’s Final DJs for a proper release, luckily it was Franck at On The Fruit, so we can expect great things.

Their début single will be released soon, in the meantime check out their new track ‘One Day In The Sun’ which sees the usually SynthWave Final DJs getting their Disco Funk on with wicked little Disco licks and a bouncy bassline. they don’t leave the SynthWave completely behind though, as you’ll hear when the skyrocketing solo kicks in. Can’t wait for the single.

The Sanfernando Sound reMixes R3set

r3set

The Sanfernando Sound’s latest reMix is his entry into R3set’s ‘Runaway’ reMix competition, and it set’s the bar pretty damn high.

TSS bases his mix around an driving Italo, almost New Beat, bassline, which gives the floatier, more retro Poppy elements, room to weave in and out of each other creating textures and melodies. This reMix’s combination of ‘80’s elements gives the vocals a new, The Thompson Twins-esque, lease-of-life which makes this version of the track stand out from the others. There’s some lovely solo work in there too. It feels like we’ve been watching The Sanfernando Sound grow and mature as an artist over the past year, both in terms of production and musical ability. I’d say he was ready for his final exam.

Binalog Frequency’s new single

binalog

I make no secret of my overpowering love for early ‘80’s B-Boy Electro, so Binalog Frequency’s new single ‘Street Science (Drop Some DMX)’, is a song after my own heart.

Give me DMX beats, robot basslines and orchestral stabs and I’m happy, luckily ‘Street Science’ rocks all this and more. Add in some Sci-Fi synth effects and an ‘80’s melody and you’ve got a tune that takes me back to days of hurting myself on a sheet of lino down the underpass. Better days…

MiGHty mOUse take on Kate Bush’s ‘Cloudbusting’

kate bush

you’d have though by now if you’d heard one version of Kate Bush often reMixes ‘Cloudbusting’, you’d have heard them all. Well, thankfully along comes MiGHty mOUse to do something fresh and give the track a new lease of life.

Dropping a slow building slice of Moroder Disco with little hint’s of Dub was the prefect choice for this track and takes it to an ‘80’s lit dancefloor place it hasn’t been before. The percussion in the reMix  is worth mentioning too, with a beautiful melodic quality to it, and the melodies have a percussive quality too which makes for some nice interaction. All-in-all though, if you’re looking for a version of this tune to drop, this is the one. Dancefloor destroying, I believe they call it.

Kate Bush – Cloudbusting (MiGHty mOUse Re Work)

The third instalment of MiGHty mOUse’s ‘Disco Circus’ series will be released 10th March featuring the likes of The Magician,Gigamesh and Oliver.

Work Drugs reMixed by Selebrities & Southern Shores

Basic RGB

Cascine, doing it again! This time they present Work Drugs’ Ice Warf’ a song that joins the growing list of songs in the last three years written about places I used to live just around the corner from, in this case the Ice Warf in Camden. Not sure why you’d want to write a song about a Wetherspoon’s, but the track is generally about getting drunk in Camden and mentions a few other places anyway. No Dublin Castle though?

Anyhoo, Cascine have got two of their finest acts on reMix duties. Kicking off with Selebrities who’s lush ‘80’s Pop version is the stand out for me. Their dreamy synths and raw beats capture my interpretation of the song perfectly. Southern Shores go in a slightly more Balearic direction with an ‘90’s House meets Chillwave sound.
