Dublin Aunts’ début single

Dublin Aunts

We’ve been waiting a while for Australian Disco producers Dublin Aunts to drop their début single, and now it’s finally hear, and seeing as how it’s Friday, ‘Heartbreak Reputation’ is the perfect tune to carry your weekend.

From it’s opening bars you know that your in for good times. This is smooth, laid back synthesizer Disco of the highest calibre. If you thought Dublin Aunts’ reMixes were good, ‘Heartbreak Reputation will blow you away. Built upon some lunch synth chords and a frictionless soulful vocal. There’s nothing about this track that doesn’t make you want to just chill in the sunshine. The reMix package is loaded with Funk too. Drop Out Orchestra provide a slick late ‘70’s Disco take on the track, all bouncy bass and big horns layered with lush strings. There’s also a big Nu-Disco mix from DJ Agent 86 that adds a calypso flavour to the mix for just that little added holiday feel and matches Disco licks with shimmering synths. Also coming on the single is a deep house mix from Flash Mode and a very nice Dub version of the track. It’s a very impressive début from Xavier & Adam and one I think we’re all going to be glad of this summer. Let the good times roll.

Aimes’ ‘Somewhere In Space We Hang Suspended’

Aimes

Hot on the heels of his new single, ‘Step Away’, Brooklyn based Chilly-Synthwaver Aimes is already planning the release of his new EP for TEEEL’s Synthemesc imprint. The ‘Beautiful Decay’ EP is out later this month but we can check out the lead track right now.

‘Somewhere In Space We Hang Suspended’ is a beautiful, atmospheric peice that brings as cosmic, and quite lonely vibe to the table. Spacious and multi-layered, this is a tune that sparks the imagination. From it’s undulating, intertwining arpeggios, to it’s distant leads and haunting vocals, this track really is somewhere in space hanging suspended, and it takes you there.  A nice mix of ElectroPop, Indie-Electro and Chillwave Aimes’ EP should be something to look forward to.

Purity Ring’s ‘Belispeak’ video

We first featured Purity Ring’s third single ‘Belispeak’ in august of last year. Now, with the imbuement release of their début album on (4AD no less!), they’ve put together a video for the track.

The 808 beats and warping synths mixed with Megan James’ epic vocal performance always needed is video with a large scale and this clip directed by BREWER, with some swampy cinematics has done the trick.

Purity Ring’s debut album ‘Shrines’ is in stores 24th July.

Ryan Riot

Ryan Riot

Ryan Riot is a lucky guy, or just has really good timing! Here’s a tip kids, if you want to get hold of us or send us your music, just email us, we rarely check Twitter DMs and new almost never check Facebook messages, with 150-odd emails a day another means of communication is just too much. However, we just happened to stop by the electronic rumors Facebook messagebox as Ryan Riot messaged us, which was a stoke of luck for both of us, normally we wouldn’t have even read his message, and that would mean we would have been deprived of an awesome tune.

And the tune he sent us, ‘Loading Procedure’ is awesome. SynthWave at it’s finest, it’s no wonder this track is getting play from the likes of Reflex and Final DJs. With ‘Loading Procedure’ Ryan has show he could stand head and shoulders with the greats of the SynthWave scene such as Mitch Murder, Miami Nights 1984 and Jordan F, but also injects a health French Touchy-ness into the track too. It’s a schizophrenic beast, Outrun Electro to the core, but with a Nu-Disco sheen that can see it appealing to fans of the likes of Lifelike. Ryan Riot, despite message us on Facebook, has definitely got our attention. Rapid fire arpeggios, nostalgic chords, soaring leads and a nice flow of vocoded vocals. You know what we like!

Camouflage Lodge

camouflagelodge

Camouflage Lodge is a new one-man project from the keyboard player from one of our favourite Indie-electro acts, Tubetops. Kevin Bendis has taken on the Camouflage Lodge moniker to put together some really sweet summer ElectroPop tunes and has just released his début EP, for free. Check it out.

The ‘Old Haunts’ EP hold four tracks of hazy, blissed out synthesizer IndiePop with a chilled beach theme running through it. From the opening track, ‘Séance On The Beach’, the EP conjures feelings of nostalgia  through the liberal sprinkling of Indie guitar amongst the Dreamwavey synths. Admittedly sometimes the EP does veer into slightly Indie dirge territory, but when Camouflage Lodge hits the good weather, good times, retro Pop vibe, he hits it perfectly. Definitely one for the coming good weather.

Shook’s new single B-side

shook

Really, if there is anyone in the world who is flying the flag for smooth grooves and slow jams, it’s Dutch keyboard wizard Shook. After over a month of us waiting for it, he’s finally released his new single, and here’s the B-Side, ‘Love For You’.

The A-Side is, of course, the amazing Ronika featuring ‘Distorted Love’ and ‘Love For You’ compliments that track perfectly. It’s a laid back example of Shook’s expertly arranged squelchy Moog Funk. ‘Love For You’ has an almost Yacht vibe to it, with a slick, chilled vocal track and more of Shook’s incredible playing (do I need to go on again about how Shook is probably the best actual musician working in Nu-Disco these days?). The track just conjures lazy summer days and beach vibes, there’s nothing about this track not to like. Definitely a secret weapon for the summer.

Florrie’s new EP

florrie

One of Bristol’s greatest gift’s to the world, no not Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Nik Kershaw, Roni Size, Substatic OR David Prowse, ex-Xenomania Drummer and songwriter Florrie, released her third EP at midnight last night.

Fittingly called ‘Late’ the EP hold four tracks which actually display a slightly more mature sound for the young singer. Still as catchy and infectious Pop as ever, but there’s a deep Disco element to some of these new tracks, and raucous dancefloor moments to others, that slips into Florrie’s style effortlessly. The EP kick off with ‘Shot You Down’ which exemplifies this, with it’s slick slap Funk bassline and pumping Disco beat sit easily side by side with Florrie’s energetic Pop. ‘I’m Gonna; Get You Back’ even works a little Drum ‘N’ Bass into it’s power Pop. ‘Every Inch’ is the most standard Pop on the EP, shining like a beacon of Florrie’s Xenomania roots. The EP’s final track, In The End’ might be , alongside ‘Shot You Down’, one of it’s standouts. Interesting quirky Pop, with one foot on the dancefloor and one foot in quirky Indie-Pop with a piano lead lending an epic quality which makes it work is the EP’s finale.

Jimmy Somerville’s new EP, with Fred Falke, Siriusmo & Felix Gauder

Jimmy Somerville

Well this is certainly the surprise release of the week. ‘80’s Pop icon Jimmy Somerville, second singer in the awesome Bronski Beat before going on to form The Communards and have a reasonable successful solo career, has this week released a new EP. ‘80’s icons releasing new material is always a bit hit and miss, especially if, like Jimmy, they haven’t really had the track record, or entrenchment in dance music, between then and now. What I wasn’t expecting was a sublime collection of contemporary ElectroPop tracks and a handful of reMixes be some of the coolest names around.

The ‘Solent EP’ contains four original new tracks, all of which are modern Nu-Disco tinged electronic Pop tunes awash with Somerville’s falsetto. the surprising this is how much of an understanding of dance music in 2012 they show, so often worth ‘80’s Electro artists making modern dance records you get the feeling that they are playing catch-up, but not so with tracks on the ‘Solent EP’ like ‘Some Wonder’, a full on DiscoPop track or ‘Taken Away’, a classic dance tune that could have (and may have been) put together by any of today’s top producers. And the reMix line up too, shows an insight into modern electronic music that many of Jimmy’s peers wouldn’t get. ‘Taken Away’ is reMixed by French Touch original Fred Falke, who works his soaring synth magic on the track to produce the EP’s standout track. Siriusmo, another surprising appearance, reMixes ‘Kites’ into a laidback Disco-tinged number loaded with bass and stings. Felix Gauder takes on ‘Some Wonder’ in a more traditional dance track way, loads of hands-in-the-air moments. The EP also comes with more originals and a reMix from Johnny winfield.
