[MP3] Alfa reMixes DCup

DCup

It’s another of Binary boy Alfa few and far between tracks. A tune that serves as a reminder why we’d love to hear more from this guy. This time his LA funk is applied to DCup’s recent single, I’m Corrupt. Watch Alfa get breezy, beach party, all over this tune.

Showing exactly why the Binary crew are still the kings of Dreamwave, Alfa take the funkier end of the genre and hits the ground running with a body moving digital bass and squelchy Moogs strait out of a 70s Funk record. Slick, buzzing synths and a little Disco lick underpin the kiddy vocals of the original and the whole thing end up great fun. Pure good times Nu-Disco with that particular LA groove. Oi, Alfa! More please!

[MP3] Plastic Plates reMixes The Presets

The Presets

This is easily the best reMix of the new material from Australia’s kings of ElectroPop The Presets so far. Coming from one of our favourite producers Plastic Plates, this reMix follows his recent trend of reworking single from Aussie Indie-Electro acts and this time he really gets to 100% spot-on.

The track, Plastic Plates’ reMix of The Preset’s forthcoming now single, Promises, strikes a nice balance between synthetic Nu-Disco and 80s SynthPop. it’s got a solid Disco groove that builds into nice big-room sound, but pairs this with some really interesting synth flourishes. There’s a percussion style arpeggio that has got more than a little of a Yazoo vibe to it, couple that with Julian Hamilton’s dry vocal wit and you’ve got a track with classic dancefloor appeal but a deep retro soul. Great Job all round. You can download the MP3 for free at the link below, and be sure to check out The Preset’s new album, Pacifica, it’s pretty stunning.

[Video] Keenhouse’s ‘Can’t Sleep Since’

Keenhouse’s new album, Four Dreams’ is still getting a lot of play round these parts. It’s pretty much an electronic masterpiece. One of the tracks from it, Can’t Sleep Since, is now presented in cyber-psychedelic video form.

Produced by Keenhouse himself, the clip is a nice early 90s style CG freak out.

[Audio] Viceroy & Ghost Beach

Viceroy

These guys have traded reMixes in the past, but now San Francisco’s funkiest export Viceroy and New York Disco Pop outfit Ghost Beach have teamed up on a new original tune that really does proove that Viceroy is correct, it’s “summertime, all the time”.

Even if it is deep in November, this tune will knock the chilly cobwebs out of your skull and get you moving like you’re at a pool party. Boasting layers and layers of funky synths, raging from a pumping digital bass to some rich, stabbing, chords, that all provides the grooviest of backings for Ghost Beach to belt out some summer anthem style vocals. Bringing back the sun! The track is available to buy very soon, we can;t wait to see who’s in the reMix line-up.

Relfex reMixes Strange Talk

strangetalk

Released later this month is Cast Away, the new single from Australian Indie-ElectroPop outfit Strange Talk. The bombastic, catchy tune is backed by a host of cool reMixes, we’ve already had a listen to Plastic Plates take on the tune, so now it’s time for one of our favourite French double acts, Reflex, to flex their reMix muscles and step up to the plate.

This tune is washed in exactly the kind of fun, slightly quirky electronics. Suited both for the dancefloor, and just to cheep yourself up. Reflex, more than many others in their field, have a real character to their music, even the instrumental stuff. It’s ElectroPop with a very specific personality. The original’s hushed vocals are paired up here with Relfex’s Disco beats, sweeping synths and idiosyncratic melodies. It’s all uplifting and charming stuff, but then Reflex’s tracks always are.

Goin’ Old School: Jean-Michel Jarre, Anne Clark & D-Mob with Cathy Dennis

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

In 1981 JeanMichel Jarre continued to break new ground, both in synthesizer music, and chart music, with his hit Magnetic Fields II.

The amazing Anne Clark’s 1984 breakthrough Our Darkness. Pioneering electronics.

D-Mob with Cathy Dennis, before she penned one of the greatest British Pop songs of all time, hitting the charts with House-lite and C’Mon And Get My Love in 1989.

Dragonette’s X-Mas single

Dragonette

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the first X-Mas single of the year! jumping the gun slightly in early November (is it time to feel X-Massy yet?), but still wining the prize is Canadian ElectroPop noiseniks Dragonette, who have managed to be seasonal and ‘down with tha kids’ by combining a bittersweet X-Mas tune with text messaging. Nice!

Merry Xmas (Says Your Text Message) has got bells in it, we should make that clear from the start, and choir sounds. Oh and copious amounts of the work “Fuck”, which is pretty special for an X-Mas song, also pronouncing X-Mas, “X-Mas” is appealing too. So, as you can probably gather, this is the anti-X-Mas love song set the traditional seasonal Pop that’s has had a few rounds in Dragonette’s grinding machine, sounding in-your-face but still holing on to some of that sparking X-Mas tune hopefulness and majesty. The best of all worlds really.
