[Audio] Goldroom & SLL (Saint Lou Lou)

Goldroom

OK, so first we have to address that Sweden based Australian twin sisters Saint Lou Lou aren’t Saint Lou Lou any more, now they’re just SLL. Is this a good move?, we doubt it (every-time I see it I immediately think SSL), but whatever, they still sound as sweet as ever. Perhaps more than ever as they team up with one of the most talented artists around right now, Goldroom.

Riding high on the worldwide success of his Fifteen single, featuring Chela on vox, Josh Legg brings a little summer sun into our chilly winter nights. The dreamy harmonies of Sain…SLL are a perfect match for that Goldroom flavour. Here Josh get’s a little more Poppy than usual, bringing his nautical vibe with a robust bassline and shimmering Island synths to a straight-up ElectroPop track, giving it a Tropical twist. The result is a truly blissful tune that kinda’ shines like when the sun’s ray catch the water. So brilliant it’s blinding.

[Video] Charli XCX’s ‘Cloud Aura’

Here’s Charli XCX’s new video, the rough and ready Cloud Aura featuring Brooke Candy (of Grimes’ Genesis video fame), as featured on her recent Super Ultra mixtape.

Ryan Andrews directs the clip, which we refuse to believe was made without the aid of booze.

[MP3] Dublin Aunts edit Manuel Tur

Manuel Tur

Cyclist dropped this one in his October mixtape, it’s Australia’s finest Disco-House export Dublin Aunts and their cheeky little bootleg Edit of German Housemeister Manuel Tur’s single of earlier this year, Back To Me. Apparently the guys “Always heard shades of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rhiannon’ in there” and so dropped a little Mac guitar into the chorus and smoothed things out a bit. The result is dreamy.

The track immediately carries you along on it’s warm, rumbling bass, and you’ll find most of the track kept largely intact. It’s just as compelling, just as hazy, just as blissful, but with a little extra added something. that something is a weird folky vibe that somehow compliments the track perfectly. Making the link between Tur’s tune and Rhiannon is the genius here, and we totally see where Dublin Aunts were coming from. We’re gonna’ save this for Sunday.

[Video] Goin’ Old School: Nitzer Ebb, The Art Of Noise & A-Ha

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Let’s kick off with what is probably Nitzer Ebb’s most iconic track, 1987’s Let Your Body Learn.

And from 1983, Experimental Art-Pop sampling pioneers The Art Of Noise with Beat Box.

I don;t know why we haven;t featured A-Ha’s biggest hit, Take On Me from 1984, but here it is.

[Audio] Chvrches reMix ultraísta

ultraísta

The ElectroPop name on everyone’s lips right now, Glasgow three piece Chvrches (yes, we’ve all given in to the ‘v’ now…) have produced their first reMix. Time to see if their amazing production can hold up when dealing with other peoples songs as they take on ultraísta’s Gold Dayzz (for the fain of heart amongst our readership, I’ll save you the tension and let you know that yes, yes it does hold up).

ultraísta are a three piece with some kind of production like to Radiohead, I’ll be honest, we hadn’t heard of them, although further investigation revealed some quite nice indeed Downtempo and Electronica. enter Chvrches, though, to spice things up a little and open the track up to some of their rich, emotive electronics and they inject the tune with a roaring synth bass, snappy beats and melodies sharp as a knife. The hazy vocals of the original drift in and out of pulsating arpeggios as the whole song build and build to a truly euphoric finale. So…Chvrches can reMix too then…good to know.

[MP3] Starcadian reMixes Unique

Unique

Here’s the fresh reMix, of an old school track, from a guy who is easily one of our favourite new producers this year. To us it seemed that in 2012 Brooklyn’s Starcadian came from nowhere and dropped immense production that put may others to shame. His massive Electro and Disco sounds have kept us moving throughout most of the second half of the year, and with a new album in the making, Starcadian has unleashed his remix of Unique’s 1983 DiscoPop classic What I Got Is What You Need to tide us over.

Starcadian shows us his smooth side, mixing up his chainsaw Electro and fantasy Cosmic Disco with some laid back funk. Twisted Moog bass and a driving beat underpin this slick track, letting the original’s vocals hazily drift in and out of the track, lifted by Starcadian;s euphoric piano rises and lush strings. True to form the man gets a little gritty and Sci-Fi in the breakdown, which makes it all that much sweeter when the Disco groove kicks back in. This is probably Starcadian’s most Funk fuelled tune to date, purpose built for late night dancefloors.

[Audio] Xtrafunk’s new tune

Xtrafunk

Out next month is the new single from one of 2012’s rising stars, German producer Xtrafunk. This guy has been making a name for himself ,over the summer, as a purveyor of shimmering beach part vibes and a retro funk sound. His latest single features some smooth vocals from Loumar and Nas, which just add to Xtrafunk blissful mood.

We’re just about to hit December, and here in London things are pretty chilly, but Deep Down’s smooth retro chords and wicked little licks have the power to warm us right up. Loumar’s silky,  soulful, vocal glides over the track likes walking on air while beneath her velvety tones Xtrafunk rocks warm electric piano, feel-good percussion and a track that rises and falls. Building toward the choruses and easing you back down for the verses. Beach party Disco for the winter months. Xtrafunk has delivered.

[MP3] Soul II Soul reMixed by Follow Me

Soul II Soul

Let us begin by saying that, for various reasons, Soul II Soul have a big place in our hearts, so we approach reMixes with trepidation. When this version of Back to Life (However Do You Want Me?) landed in out inbox we were hesitant, but the fact that it comes from awesome Brooklyn duo Follow Me piqued our interest.

So, once you’ve got over Back to Life (However Do You Want Me?) without that modified Grand Central Station break (and that’s quite a hurdle to get over) Follow Me do an awesome job bringing the track to modern dancefloors. With a deep, deep bass groove Follow Me walk the line between House and SynthWave bringing a Warehouse vibe but a little of SynthWave’s retro flare. Adding some playful melodies, this duo somehow manage to retain some of the mood of the originals whist aiming it squarely at House parties. Follow Me have treated the original with respect and turned-in a fantastic update, you should check this out.

[Video] Automatic Writing’s ‘Continuous’

London based Indie-Electro outfit Automatic Writing have just released their new single, Continuous. A rowdy tune that barrows in equal parts from Minimal Synth, Electro and Post Punk.

Here’s the video, which feature a fitting collection of imagery intercut with some live footage. The clip’s got a nice retro feel to it, which works nicely with Automatic Writing modern take on early 80s SynthPop.

[Audio] Monsieur Adi reMixes Don Diablo

diablo

Monsieur Adi’s back with a brand new reMix. The French wizard uploaded his latest sounds to his SoundCloud page today and it’s a stormer, and one we first heard in his latest mixtape. He’s delivered his take on Don Diablo forthcoming new single, the Noonie Bao featuring M1 Stinger, and it’s a track that really let’s Adi play around and do what he loves.

In all honestly we haven’t been overly keen on anything Diablo has done since Animale, but we’ve been constantly loving every scrap of Adi’s post-Nu-Disco output, we easily rate him as on of the most talented musicians working in dance music right now, his latest experimentations have been nothing short of beautiful. Within his reMix of M1 Stinger is everything you’d want from an Adi track, a rich string section, head-nodding Electro beats and  an added layer of melody as Adi twists the vocal, using it as another instrument in his orchestra. Speaking of the vocal, it’s actually really sweet, Bao’s tone works really well with the new, introspective, Adi. All these emotive elements culminate in a screaming synth solo. The track is beautiful, there’s not a lot more than that we can say.
