Kolombo reworks Madonna

42-16914729

Belgian producer Kolombo has worked his synth Disco magic on one my favourite Madonna tunes, ‘Into The Groove’.

This is everything an edit should be, Kolombo has chopped up the track and put it back together with the dancefloor in mind, dragging the synth bass to the forefront and bringing some nice retro synths with him. Frankly, this is kinda’ going to become the definitive version of the track.

Escort’s Pound Sterling reMix

escort

Massive Brooklyn based Disco orchestra Escort will release their début LP (currently out digitally) on CD and vinyl at the end of January.

To commemorate the occasion they have dropped a new reMix of ‘Why Oh Why’. The Pound Sterling mix is quite a complicated beast. Keeping the Disco groove of the original it also moves the track into more  retro Electro territory with some amazingly catchy Italo elements mixing with bit of ‘80’s Pop and Adeline Michèle’s big diva vocals. A top reMix from a top album.

Escort’s self-titled début is out now digitally and 31st January on CD and Vinyl.

Cassius & Show Your Shoe

Cassius

Our favourite Swiss Disco genius Show Your Shoe has worked his complex funky magic on Cassius’ ‘The Sound Of Violence’.

There’s so much funk in this reMix it’s bursting at the seems. Intricate tropical beats provide the groove for some big squelchy Moog bass and layers and layers of Disco madness to ride over. Untamed dancefloor madness!”

Popular Computer’s new single

Popular Computer

Out this week is Popular Computer new record, ‘Lointain’.

We’ve been waiting for the release for a while now and it’s a stormer. Parisian Sylvain Dalido get’s into a synthetic Disco state of mind with a laid back electronic sound packed with vintage synths and Disco licks. On the reMix is a whole bunch of our favourite producers. Australian Dreamwave master Muffin, who has been away far too long, drops a delicious retro beach party of a tune, mixing up the Disco and the ‘80’s, which just highlight why we need to hear more from this man. Pharao Black Magic get their analog Disco groove on with a deep bass driven slice of slo-mo electronic Funk. Robotaki’s contribution is a wonderful mix of everything good in Nu-Disco and SynthWave with a strong Moog Funk rhythm section, twisting lead lines and shimmering retro chords fit of a perfect sunset.

Goin’ Old School (with Kid Machine!): Space – Magic Fly

This week we are tuning over the Goin’ Old School reins to Manchester’s Italo/SynthWave guru Kid Machine:

Space – Magic Fly from 1977 "A record that initially really inspired me to to go retro with my projects. BEFORE Daft Punk, this guy Didier Marouni was dressing up like a robot and making amazing ‘ahead of it’s time’ music in 1977. Look out for the random dancing girl and amazing drum playing action.

Mitzi’s cover of Voyage Voyage

Mitzi

Australian Indie-Electro crew Mitzi recently covered Zig Zag’s classic ‘Voyage Voyage’ as part of Future Classic’s collaboration with Le Coq Sportif Australia.

The label and the sports brand are releasing a series of covers of much loved tunes by Australian artists and ‘voyage Voyage’ is the cream of the crop so far. Keeping the Disco groove but injecting that particular upbeat Aussie ElectroPop sound sees the makings of a summer anthem. it’s got the nostalgia factor of the original and all the trappings of the kind of tunes that fill Indie club dancefloors worldwide.

Ronika’s ‘Clock’

ronika

The Madonna Of The Midlands™, Ronika, has just premiered a brand new slab of super-retro DiscoPop Boogie.

Collaborating once again with Charles Washington (of ‘Paper, Scissors And Stone’ fame), Ronika has produced a another bouncing bassed peice of soulful ElectroPop. ‘Clock’ stands out from Ronika’s body of work, so far, by having a slightly icy edge to it. Musically the track, on first listen, appears to be an emotive four minutes of ElectroBoogie with a bit of an early ‘90’s House influence, but repeated listens reveal undercurrents of the Cybotron edge of Old School Electro and Mid-‘80’s synth Dub that lend the tiniest hint of cold, futuristic roboticness. Of course, this is tempered by Ronika and Mr. Washington, who’s passionate duet warms the track up right nice! This, though, is Ronika’s greatest asset, her ability to throw all these elements into her Ronika brand melting pot and make the result sound so smooth and effortless.

Ronika’s latest single ‘Only Only’/’In The City’ is out now and comes highly recommended.

The C90s reMix Trujillo (& The Penelopes)

Trujillo

The C90s are knocking quality reMixes out at an alarming rate these days, They’re like a well oiled reMix machine!

Venezuela Chilled House dude Trujillo gets the The C90s sheen this time around as they morph his track ‘Distance’ into a smooth synthetic Disco. Taking the slightly shogazey, slightly Chillwavey sound of the original The C90’s slap just the right amount of vintage synth groove underneath to give the track a kick, but not to kill it’s charm. Their raw Disco is also applied  to Indie-Popsters The Penelopes’ ‘Now Now Now’, with a truck load of Moog Funk.

Bros reMixed by Drop Out Orchestra

Bros

By Bros we mean, as an short for brothers, not a large number of people you’d call bro. ‘Cos this is Bros of ‘When Will I Be Famous’ and ‘Drop The Boy’ ( Ooo Er) fame, being given a massive slice of Acid Disco by Drop Out Orchestra.

DOO take the trio’s breakthrough hit ‘When Will I Be Famous’ of 1987 and give it a burbling 303 makeover with a Disco beat. Ad some funk guitar in the mix and you’ve got a slick update to a song that everybody knows.
