[MP3] New tune from Touch Tone

Touch Tone

If your after some bombastic, theatrical Cosmic Disco to shake the cobwebs out of your head and kick off your week, then you’ve come to the right place. LA’s Touch Tone is back with another new tune. raw House beats and insane cinematic strings combine on Voilà, a track that worms it’s was inside your head and takes control like a Ceti Eel.

Once again Touch Tone nails the mood. A tad Housier than his precious offerings, Voilà has got a slightly cacophonous feel to it, like being confronted with a wall of punchy beats, drama fuelled strings and bouncy synth bass all coming down on your at once. But Touch Tone handles this wall-of-Disco-sound with ease, deftly bringing in one phrase after another, building the tension of the track, especially in the breakdown, until the hook kicks back in with such anticipation it’s almost a relief. Touch Tone has masterfully created a track that is not only a dancefloor winner, but manipulates the mood of the listener, drawing them into a sweeping optimist powered by nervous energy. Well, it is a homage to 70s Sci-Fi soundtracks!

[Audio] beaumont’s ‘Milton’s Party’

beaumont_thumb

Hot on the heels of his reMix of Echoes’ Second Best on electronic rumors Volume 1: The reMix EP, Milton’s Party is the latest offering from Australian electronic experimentalist beaumont, or should that be Australian Italo maverick? Milton’s Party sees beaumont channelling a little Moroder into his madcap Disco. While we’re still waiting for the awesome Vampire to be released, Milton’s Party offered more than enough retro Funk to keep us going.

There’s hint of thinks in this track that we haven’t heard from beaumont, not in a while at least. Loaded with 80s Funk, big vintage stabs and a proper Italo groove Milton’s Party bobs and weaves around multiple melodies, combining beaumont’s musical flair with a nostalgic electronic Disco sound. Wrapped up in a major dancefloor weapon, this one’s got a bit of everything. Be prepared to be unable to resist.

[MP3] Deluce reMixes Pyramid

Pyramid

Has it really been four years since we heard from Parisian deep Electro dude Deluce? That was when he released his awesome Stage 1 EP and we last wrote about him (I use the word ‘wrote’ loosely, it was a while ago). A scan if his SoundCloud page indicates he’s been steadily , if sporadically, releasing tunes. But it was only yesterday that he re-appeared in our inbox with this slick take on fellow French Sci-Fi synth lover Pyramid’s tune of last summer, Frontier.

Dulce’s reMix walks the fine line between SynthWave and Cosmic Disco. Weaving funky little licks  and a clap fuelled beat though his soundtrack synths. Staying true to the beauty and atmosphere of the original, Deluce up-s the Disco ante a little and reinvents the track’s drama filled melodies for a nostalgic dancefloor.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse’s ‘Love Is Gonna Lift You Up’

MiGHty mOUse

The king of spacey Disco MiGHty mOUse releases a brand new single at the end of the month. Which means we’ll probably be grooving to this all throughout March. On Love Is Gonna Lift You Up, the mOUse works his Cosmic magic on a bit of recent Bobby Womack with a track, already reworked by Basement Jaxx and Julio Bashmore, from his album of last year, The Bravest Man In The Universe. The idea to release it as a single, with a new vocals, was born during a Sunday lunch between MM and Cheap Thrills head honcho Hervé. We find Sunday lunches are where the best ideas come from.

MiGHty mOUse’s  take on the tune drags it straight to the dancefloor, as long as that dancefloor is out in the sunshine. This is the perfect outdoor party jam, a big feel-good track loaded with uplifting vocals and sweeping synths. Riding atop a space age Disco groove, the track even injects a little Tropical feel into the mix with a rushing Island breakdown. The single come with two other version of the track, but we’re not sure if they are going to be able to beat this Sunrise Mix’s joyous floorfilling bliss.

[Audio] Mild Peril’s ‘Voyager 2010’ EP

Mild Peril

This week London based Italo Experimentalist Mild Peril released his latest EP. Well, latest as in ‘just released’, the tracks themselves date from 2010 (hence the EP’s title, Voyager 2012), but sound as fresh now as ever. Running the gauntlet from Italo to Minimal Synth to EBM to Cosmic Disco, Voyager’s three epics deliver vastly different styles, but are neatly tied together in Mild Peril’s rich analog atmosphere.

Separated into Sequences, the EP kicks off with Sequence I-II, an immediate attention grabber. It’s an evocative slice of Sci-Fi synth with a nostalgic Italo-Disco vibe. Whilst the pulsating Disco bass groove would be easy to get lost in on the dancefloor, the real joy of this eight minute odyssey is just sitting back and listening to the playing. The layers of intertwining melody sweep about the track carrying the listener through a music narrative with some hair raising solo moments. Sequence III is Minimal Synth meets SynthWave affair. Punchy drums, undulating arpeggios and a surprisingly sweet organ deliver an upbeat, driving exploration of live synth works. The EP closes on Sequence IV which sees the organ return in a much more ominous capacity over a track with classic EBM in it’s DNA. Considering this EP was pieced together out of older oddities in Mild Peril’s repertoire, it leaves us pretty excited to hear what he’s got planned going into the future.

[Audio] Charli XCX remixed by Lindstrøm

Charli XCX

You may have seen us get a little giddy about this tune last week on Google+ and Twitter. It’s out girl Charli XCX’s new single, You (Ha Ha Ha), reMixed my the space Disco man of the moment Lindstrøm. Alongside the Goldroom reMix, this is the one we were most excited about, and it doesn’t disappoint.

A little more stripped down and Housey than maybe we are used to from Lindstrøm, the track nevertheless retains all the Norwegian’s Cosmic Disco charm. Sparse and Groove, with an almost Dubby swing to it, Lindstrøm’s remix creates a woozy electronic mood into which he drops in and out swirling synths and warping bass sounds. How he manages to get so ecclectic with his pallet and still keep the vibe fun and funky I have no idea, but he pulls it off. Add to this Charli’s top vocal and you’ve got a track that lives up to the hype.

[Audio] Du Tonc’s ‘Darkness’

Du Tonc

We’ve been waiting on this on for a while now, ever since London Disco guru MiGHty mOUse hinted he was working with Van She’s resident bassist and solo ElectroPopper Matt Van Schie. The result is finally here, premièred on The Magician’s Magic Tape this month, this is Du Tonc’s Darkness.

Darkness isn’t nearly as ominous as it’s name suggests, if fact it’s a pretty playful mixture between intelligent cosmic Disco and Indie-Pop. You may think that moody 80s Indie track, and a slightly Tropical flavoured Nu-Disco tune would make strange bedfellows, but in Darkness’ case the two sit together perfectly. Neither aspect of the song’s character overwhelming the other. A strange juxtaposition between the introverted and extroverted, that results in an insanely catchy sing-a-long chorus and a rolling dancefloor groove. We can easily see Du Tonc producing some of the more intelligent Disco tunes in the coming year.

[Audio] Lindstrøm & Todd Terje

Lindstrøm & Todd Terje

Well, this was bound to set the internet alight. Unless you’ve been living under a rock this week, you’ll already be aware of the new single from two of the standout producers of 2012. Lindstrøm and Todd Terje both owned last year when it comes to quirky, spacey Disco, and now the two Norwegians are together as one.

Lanzarote is the name of the single, which strikes a nice balance between the sunlit warmth of Disco and ice Scandinavian electronics. Clock in at over eight minutes, Lanzarote feels like a journey through frozen tundra wearing Bermuda shorts and shades. Typically Scandinavian piecing synths and vintage tones are all present, but tempered with a Tropical undercurrent, the end result is fun as hell.  Diskjokke, who also had a hand in the original writing of Lanzarote delivers an even spacier reMix that hits just the right synthetic Disco notes.

[MP3] Cavaliers Of Fun reMix Young Digerati

Young Digerati

So, it would appear that LA based Dreamwavers Young Digerati are no more. I’m not sure when (or if) this was announced, but according to the blurb with the latest reMix from Cavaliers Of Fun, that’s the facts. Which is a pity, Young Digerati had a lot going for them but never really seem to hit their stride as far as releasing material went. I get the feeling there was some bad management in the mix too. They shall be missed.

What we are left with, though, is this reMix Cavaliers Of Fun did of unreleased track Aquiel, and it’s a beautiful send off for the guys. Cavaliers Of Fun delivers a Cosmic Dreamwave blissfest. Who says electronic music isn’t emotional? No-one who’s heard Cavaliers Of Fun’s gently, nuanced work on this track, that’s for sure. Bouncy basslines play side-by-side with intricate melodies and smooth, heartfelt solos, creating a track that moves your feet and your soul (if that existed).  Young Digetati’s song, an uplifting summery anthem, glides effortlessly over the top. A fitting final salute.
