M83 & Mylo

m83

In a couple of months time M83 will be dropping his new single, That single will be ‘Reunion’ from his acclaimed album ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’ and the package will feature reMixes from the likes of The Naked & Famous, Polly Scattergood, Sei A, We Have Band, White Sea and this absolutely storming version from the legend that is Mylo.

Premiered by our girl Annie Mac on her show this past Friday, Mylo’s mix is both smooth & soulful and energetic & exciting. In fact, Mylo’s done exactly what I’d want a reMixer to do with the track, keep the arrangement pretty much intact but swap out some of the rockier elements of the original and replace them with a solid dance groove. The result lift the song to new heights.

Goin’ Old School: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Cabaret Voltaire & Heaven 17

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark kick us off today with 1980’s ‘Messages’, don’t they look young!

One of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite bands. ‘Crackdown ‘ from Cabaret Voltaire in 1983.

Not out favourite Heaven 17 song, but easily their best known is 1982’s ‘Temptation’,

…as Sampson’s ‘Human Love’

...as Sampson

Swiss producer …as Sampson has dropped a militaristic take on SynthWave in the form of ‘Human Love’.

‘Human Love’ appears to be written from the cyborg’s point of view as it is dominated by machine beats and repetitive synthetic sounds. Almost industrial in it’s approach to it’s hammering, relentless, drums the track takes on a regimented march out of which softer synths and the occasional glimpse of funk cry for attention. And it’s those snatches of soul amongst the factory floor onslaught that make the song what it is. Kinda’ sweet, in a noisy way.

Louis La Roché’s new single

louis_la_roche

Today one of the UK’s Nu-Disco champions Louis La Roché releases his new single, the Ad-Apt featuring ‘Untrue’.

Recently Louis has had no fear of playing fast and loose with styles and influences and ‘Untrue’ sees him playing about with his Disco sound, adding some rhymes and R&B vocals to create something new. The result is a track that is both incredibly funky, and incredibly commercial. With all the qualities to make a British summer hit, ‘Untrue ‘ could see La Roché gaining the mainstream recognition he definitely deserves. The B-side, ‘Touch Wood’ is a smooth as silk, straight-to-the-floor, Moog Funk/Nu-Disco collision which you’ll probably be hearing a lot from this year on late night dancefloors. Big piano and slick Disco licks see Louis keeping it tight, oh and it’s got a killer solo.

♫ Louis La Roché – Touch Wood

Louis La Roché  will be treating London to a headlining DJ set at this month’s Human Error at 93 Feet East. He’ll be spinning some tunes alongside the likes of Phonat, The Young Punx, Bobby Tank and Discosocks, all playing live as part of Human Error’s hook up with MofoHifi Records in a night that is not to be missed. Worship’s ‘Horizon’ EP

This week sees the release of the new EP from SynthWave master Worship, titled ‘Horizon’ EP and released on ‘the ever-awesome Holographic People

The ‘Horizon’ EP promises three tracks of blissed-out synthesizer  love and kicks off with ‘Spiral End’, featuring Cavaliers Of Fun’s Ricco Vitali on vocals. Worship’s big power chorded SynthWave and Ricco’s 80’s wailing is a match made in heaven . It’s a pretty anthemic track, like a rousing call to dance, loaded with huge warm synths, a wicked groove and that particular sing-a-long quality all anthems need. Have we had a Dreamwave anthem yet? If not, this is your contender. Also featuring on the EP is ‘Miles Indies’, which is as atmospheric as it is funky. The solid groove and slap bass head-nodding effect complimented perfectly by some lush, worldly, pads and leads. SynthWave at it’s best, ‘Miles Inside’ speaks to both your feet and your heart. The EP’s title track starts off in Jean Michel-Jarre mode before launching into the funk fuelled soundtrack to the best imaginary ‘80’s cop show. Y’know, a cop show with a theme, probably about a future cop who accidently gets trapped in the past (the ‘80’s) and had to buddy with a quirky everyman beat cop. ‘Horizon’ is exciting, driving and majestic and contains some really nice flourishes. Including a bunch of reMixes alongside the originals, this EP will be a must purchase!

Cinnamon Chasers & Lameboy Advance

cinnamon-chasers

OK, so we’re going to try not to go mad on entries into Cinnamon Chasers ‘The Day That Never Came’ reMix cometition, but sometimes we can’t help it. We love Cinnamon Chasers and Cinnamon Chasers X producers we really dig, such as Lameboy Advance, is a equation for awesome we can’t turn down.

This take on the track by Lameboy isn’t really an Edit despite being called that, it’s actually a full-blown reMix, which is a good thing because the German SynthWave producer takes the song down a sweetly melancholic nostalgia route. Deep ‘80’s bass, muted guitar and gentle retro synth chords transform the doomy vocal into something softer, and the track into a chilled-out SynthPop track the cruises along with a slightly summery vibe.

Posttod

Posttod

Posttod are a Sweedish Electronica duo who push genre boundaries and wrap up myriad influenced in their beautiful, icy soundscapes.

The recently released their ‘Moon’ EP for free and should you take advantage of that amazing deal you’ll be treated to seven tracks of electronic, dreamlike soundtracks. Taking in components from everywhere from Dubstep to Chillwave to ElectroPop to Disco, Posttod create something decidedly Scandinavian sounding that just conjures images of forests and tundra. There’s something in this EP that reminds me of Røyksopp, maybe not directly in the sound, but in the approach to electronic music. The two acts are definitely experimental, and avant-garde, but highly melodic too. Here Posttod utilise broken beats, Dub basses, heavily reverb washed vocals and synth drones, but all the time accompany this with sweet melodies and passionate leads. ‘Moon’ is an accomplished peice of work that all fans of synthesizer music should check out.
