New Substatic tunes

Substatic

It’s Substatic update time! When last we left out heroes they were knocking around on ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ and playing a blinding set at the album launch party. That set showcased not only their new, leaner, line up but also a plethora of new material and, dare I say it, a new ‘sound’, one with a tad more Funk.

Here’s two new tracks to get your aural juices flowing. ‘iMake Noise’ is a bass fuelled steamroller of a track, the don’t-call-it-Dubstep bassline slowly grinding against your brain makes for the perfect accompaniment to Colleen’s sultry, dangerous, vocals. It’s a track with a sense of urgency, a nervous energy that threatens to break at any moment amidst the chiming lead lines. There’s definitely something cinematic about ‘iMake Noise’. ‘Arcadia’ is an instrumental track and, I presume, a tribute to the giant, travelling robo-stage of the same name. Last year at Bestival I was camped literally right next to Arcadia and whilst this track doesn’t quite capture the 5:30am ground shaking, can’t sleep, bass, what it does instead is make you wanna’ jump up with it’s shuffling beats and dirty, funk fuelled synth grind. Capturing the best of those times you can loose yourself on the dancefloor, ‘Arcadia’ should be played at peak time in a field with 30,000 other nutters!

Chromatics’ ‘Candy’

Here’s another new track from Chromatics’ forthcoming second album, ‘Kill For Love’, titled ‘Candy’.

Who know’s when the album will finally be release, but Chromatic have vowed to keep releasing video teasers of the album, track by track. ‘Candy’ was again shot by Alberto Rossini and is a deep and beautiful electronic lament.

‘Lady’ is taken from Chromatics’ forthcoming second Italians Do It Better album, ‘Kill For Love’.

Black Strobe’s ‘Italian Fireflies’ is back, with a Reflex reMix

black_strobe

Black Strobe’s ‘Italian Fireflies’ is a bit of a modern classic. Released in 2033 in Kitsuné it had a riff that stuck in everyone’s head and the opening bars of the track, when the riff kicked in, would destroy dancefloors. Now Blackstrobe Records are re-releasing the track with a whole package of awesome reMixes featuring some serious talent bring the track into 2012.

Amongst that talent you’ll find one of our current faves, French SynthPop duo Reflex, who pull the track from it’s dark post-Electroclash resting place into the sunlight with a huge ElectroPop workout. Turning that evil, edgy riff into soaring retro lead line with some choice chords underneath full to give it more of a rousing kick, Reflex have done the impossible and turned the track into something bright and uplifting., which makes a really nice contrast to the growling, moody original. Both takes on the tune are ace and it;s nice to have the choice. The rest of the EP features reMixes from Munk, Yan Wagner, Second Date, Richy Ahmed & Corey Baker, Hey Today! and Mr. Arnaud Rebotini himself. that’s a hell of a reMix package and one we await excitedly.

Kids At Midnight & Xander Milne

kids at midnight

Tomorrow Kids At Midnight release their new single, their début for for Vulture Music, and frankly it’s about time too! I literally feel like I’ve been waiting for this release forever.

The single will be a double A-side featuring the tracks ‘Let You Slide’ and ‘No No Yeah Yeah’, alongside the original versions sits this reMix from Xander Milne, who pushed the heavy synth funk with a massive slap bassline and the sweetest of twisted lead lines. It’s quite a laid back summery track but with enough balls to rock the dancefloor. The solid groove works just right for Jane’s vocals to ride over to complete the package. It’s a shame I have neither a) a pool, b) good weather or c) loads of friends who don’t have to get up for work tomorrow, ‘cos this tune has got me in the mood for a pool party.

FM Attack reworks Richard Marx

richard marx

Pure gold! One of Canada’s best synth exports and one of our favourite producers FM Attack taking on Richard Marx 1987 power ballad début ‘Should Have Known Better’.

The wavy mullet’s voice with FM Attack’s sweet retro synths is a match made in heaven. No only does FM Attack provide a slick as hell ‘80’s sounding Electro backing that works the right bits of the song at the right time, but he also liberally applies some lush vocoding to Mr. Marx’s vocals. The whole thing shows a great respect to the original track, but take it so much further, to the point where you couldn’t listen to the original again without somehow feeling that the stuff here was missing. Powerful, uplifting, nostalgic synth awesomeness.

Final DJs Vs. MRTN

mrtn

Why do Final DJs always release stuff at the weekends? I need some time off sometimes y’know! But here I am, tired from a weekend’s brutality and there are good tunes to be blogged about!

MRTN’s ‘Slow’ caught out eye a while back, it must have caught Final DJs eyes too for them to come up with such an inspired reMix. It’s exactly the kind of sweeping SynthWave you expect from these German producers, the kind that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, but it’s the way the big retro dance track interacts with Lovisa Negga’s voice that’s the icing on the cake. It’s a must listen track, a full-on, high-octane synthesizer Disco assault with a sweet vocal.

Nite Jewel’s ‘One Second Of Love’ video

Nite Jewel is just about to release her second album ‘One Second Of Love’ and it’s similarly titled lead single, and has premièred the video for the track.

Delaney Bishop directs this freaky ladies get-together come paper headed goat ceremony. I don;t know what’s going on, but it looks like most people are having a good time, and that’s what counts.

Nite Jewel’s ‘One Second Of Love’ album is released 6th March.

The Magician reMixes Sam Sparro

Sam-Sparro

ElectroPop crooner Sam Sparro’s latest single, ‘Happiness’ has been given a right good synthetic Disco going over from Belgium’s finest; The Magician.

I wouldn’t have immediately thought Sparro’s neo-Erasure style would have played this well with Fasano’s sound, but it really does, so well. The reMix managers to keep this funky and play up to the drama of Sparro’s vocals with a 242-esque bouncy bass and some chilling, buy funky, synths. This is probably the deepest track The Magician has put out to date and it just shows he’s not a one trick pony.

‘Happiness’ is taken from Sam Sparro’s forthcoming new album, ‘Return To Paradise’, out 27th May.
