LexiconDon ‘Set Sail’

The boys are back in town! Well, they’re not, they’re currently on tour, but Binary’s finest SynthPop troublemakers LexiconDon are still finding time to drop the third single from last years ‘Pink + Blue’ album.

‘Set Sail’ was the comedown on ‘Pink + Blue’, the final track that eased you out of the LexiconDon world both in it’s chilled ElectroPop and it’s lyrical imagery, with a little heartbreak in the parting too. So with the single release the have enlisted the help of some of the funkiest music creators around to fill a, frankly, stunning reMix package. Chicagoan producer collective of the moment Only Children drop a live sounding tune with heaps of New York Disco groove. At an epic seven minutes their reMix runs the gauntlet from cool Disco licks to sparkling layers of analog synth. Raining heavyweight champions of smooth music, Fiero, grab the laidback beach vibe of the original with both hands and take it yachting. Their synthesizer dream is the kind of emotional soundtrack music that’s perfect for shoreline sunsets, with just the right amount of talk-boxed Disco Funk to keep you wanting more. Worship pick up the pace with their version, more fitting for the dancefloor than the beach, proving that ‘Set Sail’ works just as well as an upbeat dance track as it does as a ballad. Worship pulls out one of my favourite versions in the pack, really playing to the rhythms newly speedy vocals with the groove of the track, to give the song an urgent quality, opening up new interpretations of the lyrics.

The single also includes rad mixes from Flash Mode, who drop some full on summer Nu-Disco and Jemex, who morph the track into a New Wave hit. You can pick up the reMixes, for free, in high quality on LexiconDon’s SoundCloud.

Softwar X Mitzi

Mitzi

Mitzi are an Australian band with a funky indie sound. you may or may not like them, but you will love this reMix of their track ‘Morning Light’ from Sydney guys Softwar.

Wrapping a 90’s house groove in Dreamwave style retro synths Softwar deliver the goods big time. There are a few reMixes of this track around but I’d go for this one as my favourite. This is a track for those deep involved moments in the club when you loose yourself on the dancefloor, deep and pumping with a coating of shimmering synths that let the vocals wash over your ears.

The ‘Morning Light’ reMix EP is out now via Future Classic.

Mille is back with a Foster The People reMix

I’ll say it, Mille’s ‘Crysteena’ must rank as one of my all time favourite tunes, so it’s awesome to see the Swede back with a brand new reMix of Foster The People’s ‘Call It What You Want’.

From the opening bar this is synth heaven, but I would expect no less from Mille. The man is a master of both 80’s synth sounds and modern dancefloor production, and when the two meet magic happens. This reMix is a masterclass in retro ElectroPop; soaring and shimmering synths, FM bass, electro toms, all executed with a perfect groove. Milles riffs accentuate just the right parts of the original track to up the catchiness and make the vocals suddenly really epic.

Grum reMixes The Good Natured

Sweet electronic X-mas! The Good Natured is one of my favourite Indie-Electro artists, and Grum one of my favourite Nu-Disco producers. The two together? Only good can come of this!

The results are pretty stunning, Grum makes the absolutely correct decision to keep most of the song structure and Sarah’s vocals intact, letting his massive sounding Nu-Disco groove support the track rather than obscure it. What you have in the end is an amazing meeting of Ms. McIntosh’s emotive voice and Grum’s body moving beats and soaring melodies. I love it when a plan comes together!
