Engarde’s ‘Firebird’

Engarde

Here’s the latest offering from Swiss Discoy SynthWave producers Engarde. It’s called ‘Firebird’, and it’s going to be your surprise hit of the week. The duo has been pretty quite since last years ‘Fresh 80’ on Moonbootique, hopefully the recent dropping of tunes indicated a new release coming.

‘Firebird’ is a track that’s smooth as hell, but Funky with it. Taking cues from Filter Disco and Dreamwave, ‘Firebird’ kicks in a way we haven’t heard much of this year, taking us back to those massive Disco mixes during the summer of 2010 from the likes of Russ Chimes and Grum, but with a nice little 2012 twist. Engarde have totally got the pumping DiscoPop thing down pat, we’re looking forward to more from them in the coming months.

Monitor 66’s ‘Her Bells’

Monitor 66

This week the generally pretty awesome Silhouette Music, released ‘Her Bells’, the new single from Swedish trio Monitor 66. Getting their digital bass warmed up for the summer Monitor 66 have followed up their track ‘Triscuits’, which both The Magician and Zimmer rocked into their mixtapes with a track that is even more sweet.

‘Her Bells’ combines the smoothness of LA Disco with an energetic Italo flavoured Funk bassline. It’s a warm and inviting Dreamwavey Disco tune without a care in the world. While the track is laden with lush pads, sparkling bells and a deep, deep beat, it’s that digital bass that is the real deal sealer here. Like an the blissful ramblings of a Funk robot, that bassline just speaks to us. Alongside Gary Baldi, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra roll up for reMix duties and take things even deeper, before adding some 808 percussion and light House piano for a real smooth old school Chicago feel, and they keep the bassline! Good Work!

opus-label

LA based boutique Electro label Opus Label are staying true to their word and releasing the next in their ‘Opus Label’ compilation series just a couple of months after the first. ‘Opus Label Two’ continues in their new tradition of delivering well thought out collections of some of the past few years best Indie-Electro, ElectroPop and Nu-Disco.

The line up for the new record is pretty stellar. More than a few electronic rumors alumni feature amongst the twelve tracks, including The Tapeaters’s awesome last single ‘Echo’, Metronomy’s ‘The Look’, Gypsy And the Cat’s modern Indie-Electro classic Jona Vark’,  Jensen Sportag’s Everything Good’, The Whip’s comeback single, ‘Movement’, Jean Tonique reMix of Chateaubriand and Destronics’ ‘The Sunset’, Amtrac’s ‘Distant Heartbreak’, Opus head honchos Miguel Angel Jiménez and Jeremy Wineberg have done an amazing job curating this collection. There’s a definite summer vibe throughout with some of the chilled tunes from the last couple of years featured. As with ‘Opus Label One’ the package comes with a booklet featuring the work of a particular photographer, in the case of ‘Opus Label Two’ it’s Frenchman Yougo Jeberg who contributes his style to the packaging.

Mitch Murder’s new EP

Mitch Murder

Mitch Murder, the master of all things SynthWave, dropped a new EP over the weekend. The amount of new material Mitch is treating us to is amazing, and all of is literally blows the cometition out of the water. The ‘MARS’ EP is Mitch Murder on fine soundtrack form. Hold on to your space boots, we’re in for a wild electronic Sc-Fi ride.

The ‘MARS’ EP is somewhat Mitch Murder’s tribute to the artist and designer of the future Mœbius, who passed away recently. A red planet themed journey through science fiction soundscapes in that way only Mitch Murder can. The man’s skill with a synthesizer is only matched by his production chops. ‘The Deimos Incident’ is good indicator of what the EP holds, it’s a moody atmospheric peice, ominous like the planet itself but shot through with the optimism of exploration. Mitch has totally nailed the reflective ‘80’s drums and dreamlike synths. ‘Valles Marineris Pursuit’ is a twisting, sparkling slice of synthesizer gold, much like it’s EP companion ‘Phobos Gun Run’ which we featured previously, it;s got a strong Vince DiCola flavour realty capturing the ‘80’s futuristic mood with it’s lush stabs and winding melodies. We can’t really stress enough how Mitch Murder is the cream of the Synthwave crop. Flawless production & musicianship to such a high level he leaves others in his dust. Go pick up this EP right now if you are at all into electronic music.

Breakbot & Oliver

breakbot

We all got hold of the surprising B-side to French groover Breakbot’s new single a while back. Now we can check out the singles lead track which sees Breakbot back together with Irfane and sounding a bit more like the Breakbot we all know and love.

‘One Out Of Two’ is a gorgeous slice of late ‘70’s synthesizer Funk which, like the B-Side, Programme’ sees Breakbot working some interesting instrumentation into his tracks. It’s some seriously smooth, lazy Disco with a uplifting catchy chorus. Also it sounds like a wacky late ‘70’s sitcom theme. The standout of the single is easily the reMix from LA Oliver themed duo Oliver, who consistently blow us away with each new track. Here they bring a sexy late night vibe to the track with that mix of Disco and Dreamwave that Oliver do best. Wicked Disco licks and strings sit next to bouncy retro synths as Oliver work the vocal and make it even more catchy than the original.
