[Audio] Lifelike reMixes Alan Braxe & The Spimes

Alan-Braxe

French Touch legend Alan Braxe is back and kicking off 2013 with a brand new single, not on his own Vulture Music imprint, but on the ever hip Scion Audio/Visual. Not only that, but the entire release is free too!

Once More Chance is a collaboration between Braxe and fellow Frenchmen The Spimes (what old school Kitsuné dude Romuald is doing now), and it’s not necessarily what you’d expect from the Nu-Disco pioneer. Slow and atmospheric, One More chance seems to share more common DNA with Chillwave that Braxe’s previous floorfillers. Don’t let that put you off though, it’s a beautiful, enveloping track that echoes with big reverby drums, swirling synths and Romuald hazy vocals. Oh, and there’s a Lifelike remix too. Boom. This sounds more like that track you were probably expecting. Gritty French Electro bass, and buzzsaw synths amidst a pounding beat. We could have probably done with a tiny bit less of the record flutter effect though, which gets a little tedious after three minutes. Still, you can’t say no to a rockin’ Lifelike reMix.

[Audio] Goldroom reMixes Charli XCX

Charli XCX

We’ve been rocking to this track all week. Premièred last Friday on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show, we first heard wind of it the week before. Back before we heard it we asked Josh to describe his reMix in three words, his reply was “heartbreaking, lush, neon”. What more can you ask for in a tune? This is Goldroom’s reMix of Charli XCX’s ‘You (Ha Ha Ha).

So, it’s a combination we have been pretty excited about. It no secret to regular readers that we are particularly enamoured with Charli, and we’ve been following Josh’s career since the good old NightWaves days. Both very different artists, but if there’s one thing we love, it’s two different styles that we are big fans of coming together. Charli’s Gold Panda sampling You (Ha Ha Ha) gets the prefect Dreamwave treatment. Goldroom takes an abrasive, intoxicating ElectroPop track and morphs it into a nostalgic dream. Sprinkled liberally with a Disco groove, the reMix becomes a rolling wave of lush beats, a swirling cloud of intricate sounds, pinned down with an infectious piano hook. All of which lends a new inflection to Charli’s vocals, stripping them of some of their angst, gently bringing out the lament and enhancing the longing. Stellar remix.

[Audio] Pyramid’s ‘Wolf’

Pyramid

It’s that time again, Kitsuné Music are about to release their third Kitsuné Parisien compilation. Put together by Kitsuné main man Gildas and graffiti artist André to showcase French talent, and of course you can’t do that without including one of France’s premier SynthWave talents, Sci-Fi synth explorer Pyramid.

Wolf, Pyramid’s new track, is four minutes powered by chainsaw synths and wailing solos. But this is no harsh Electro tune, Pyramid uses his abrasive sounds not to create aggression, but to instil beauty and wonder. A pulsating Italo Disco bassline underpins the track, allowing Pyramid to concoct an enigmatic dark future soundtrack where machine stabs play against soaring melodies.Robotic and atmospheric dancefloor soundtrack stuff.

[Audio] Oliver’s ‘Mechanical’ EP

Oliver

This week lauded LA Dreamwave duo of Olivers, Oliver, released a brand new EP on A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold Records imprint. An EP that had been pretty polarising amongst fans of their smooth west coast Disco sound. The Oliver’s had been hinting that they would be branching out, style wise, for a while now, but delivering an EP containing hard hitting Electro tunes has raise as many eyebrows as it has smiles.

So, how is it really. Well, for a start it;s very good. even if it’s not to your taste, there’s no denying that it is an amazingly produced EP, these two are really at the top of their game, and on the whole, despite the odd cheesy Electro riff, Oliver’s should does shine through in the track. MYB is about 70% standard rave tune with the occasional glimpses of the Oliver brilliance we know and love. Similarly Night On My Mind  promises to be a deep, moody, SynthWave tune, until the big early 2000’s Electro-House riff kicks in to ruin things. All is not lost though, the EP’s title track, Mechanical, is an absolutely beautiful, growling, synthetic ballad. Haunting vocals, lush synths, big retro drum fills, it;s an amazing tune. Alongside which sits Control, the track most people seem to have picked up on. A rapid fire, Funk laden, assault of arpeggios and vintage keys. Infectiously danceable and packed with more robo-boogie than a robo-boogie factory. Oliver’s Mechanical is a mighty fine EP, it just might not be the EP you were expecting.

[Audio] Com Truise reMixes Maroon 5

Maroon 5

Maroon 5. Yeah you heard us. Bet you never though you’d visit electronic rumors to find an article about Maroon 5, did ya? Honestly, neither did we, but the amazing Mr. Com Truise, SynthWave legend, had delivered a thoroughly awesome reMix of their track One More Night, that’s had us listening to Maroon 5 all day.

So, we have no idea what the original sound like, or if it’s new or old. What we can tell you, though, is that this track is pretty damn cool. The combination of Truise’s spikey synths and vintage beats with what are some surprisingly soulful vocals is pitch perfect for a dreamy SynthPop track. Truise manages to keep the Funk going amidst analog synth slabs and rolling arpeggios, meaning a track that could have sounded quite cold, feels warm and nostalgic. In this context the vocals are actually really enjoyable. Imagine if Maroon 5 really sounded this good.

[Audio] Du Tonc’s ‘Darkness’

Du Tonc

We’ve been waiting on this on for a while now, ever since London Disco guru MiGHty mOUse hinted he was working with Van She’s resident bassist and solo ElectroPopper Matt Van Schie. The result is finally here, premièred on The Magician’s Magic Tape this month, this is Du Tonc’s Darkness.

Darkness isn’t nearly as ominous as it’s name suggests, if fact it’s a pretty playful mixture between intelligent cosmic Disco and Indie-Pop. You may think that moody 80s Indie track, and a slightly Tropical flavoured Nu-Disco tune would make strange bedfellows, but in Darkness’ case the two sit together perfectly. Neither aspect of the song’s character overwhelming the other. A strange juxtaposition between the introverted and extroverted, that results in an insanely catchy sing-a-long chorus and a rolling dancefloor groove. We can easily see Du Tonc producing some of the more intelligent Disco tunes in the coming year.

[Audio] Ryan Riot reMixes Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club

World dominating IndiePoppers Two Door Cinema Club are starting to sound a little samey if you ask us. There’s only so many combinations of frantic off-beat hi-hats, syncopated riffs, and summery leads. just take the track Handshake, for their last album, Beacon. It sounds like a Two Door Cinema Club song, like someone’s worked out a formula for that. At least we can count on the likes of Swiss Dreamwaver Ryan Riot to spruce things up a little.

Ryan does the job properly, adding a bouncy synth bassline and some kicking dance drums. Most of the original song is still there kicking about, but Riot elevated the track to new, exiting places with a few well-placed dance music tropes. On the whole it’s a decided improvement on the track, which becomes an exciting Indie-Electro floorfiller in Ryan Riot’s hands.

[Audio] Jupiter reMix Yan Wagner

Yan Wagner

French producer Yan Wagner’s recent Forty Eight Hours album didn’t leave out MP3 player for very long in the latter half of 2012. A Housey, ElectroPop opus that deserved wider attention. Yesterday the single Changed from the album was released, and alongside reMixes from Arnaud Rebotini, The Hacker and Tristesse Contemporaine sits this version from one of our favourite ElectroPop duos, Jupiter.

Jupiter get busy with their playful DiscoPop style all over the track. Their now trademark bouncy bass is at the fore of the track, providing a rock solid, funky, bedrock for layers of spikey tones and cosmic synths to dance around the tracks four and a half minutes. A stark contrast to Wagner’s deadpan, Factory-esque style, this meeting of styles works infinitely better than it should, more power to Jupiter for pulling it off. By the time the reedy synth solo kicks in you can;t help but be totally hooked.

[Audio] Disclosure & AlunaGeorge

Disclosure & AlunaGeorge

This is White Noise. It’s a collaboration between awesome House duo Disclosure and even awesomer Electro R&B duo AlunaGeorge. It reader it head last night. It broke the internet.

And you can see why, the amount of talent featured in this track isn’t wasted. Disclosure create the perfect, otherworldly, soundtrack. Part Acid House, part Bleep House, all warehouse, White Noise is a nostalgic trip for anyone who was raving in 1990, but the addition of Aluna’s vocals give the whole affair a soulful Pop twist. No-one really thought of ElectroPop Bleep House back in 1990, maybe if they had the scene would have lasted for longer than a year. this is the prefect melding of deep Dance Music vibes and Pop sheen. amazing. (P.S. I refuse to call Bleep House ‘Yorkshire Bleep & Bass’, we called it Bleep House at the time, and I’m sticking with that!)
