MiGHty mOUse reMixes Figure Of 8

figure-of-8

Y’know, I thought I’d already posted this, I’ve been digging it for ages, even played it out. Here we have MiGHty mOUse reMix of the awesome Figure Of 8 single ‘No One Cries For Me’.

The whole reMix package for the single is fantastic with the likes of Worship and Bright Light Bright Light rubbing shoulders with MiGHty mOUse bouncy Disco workout. Filled with layer upon layer of twisting, funky synths that roll along to some lilting guitar and some trademark MM synth squelching and shimmering strings. The track is also featured on MiGHty mOUse must-have ‘Disco Circus 3’ compilation.

Goin’ Old School: Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force, Mantronix & Egyptian Lover

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

This week on Goin’ Old School we’re going back to one of my first love B-Boy Electro, Electro Funk, Electro Boogie or whatever you want to call it. The Problem is most of the classic cuts from back them don’t have videos, but luckily we can kick off with the quintessential Electro jam, Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force’s ‘Planet Rock’ from 1982

We love some Mantronix round these parts, I think ‘Bassline’ from 1986 is the only classic Mantronix video we haven’t featured yet.

It’s a pity there aren’t more old Egyptian Lover videos. 1986’s Electro Funk fueled ‘Freak-A-Holic’ seems to be the only video he made back then

Simian Mobile Disco’s new single

Simian Mobile Disco

I still have Simian Mobile Disco to thank for one of the best night out I have had in the last ten years and while their last album didn’t grab me as much as their début I still follow their career with interest.

‘Seraphim’ is the first single from the duo’s forthcoming album ‘Unpatterns’ and is an interesting peice of electronic music after my own heart. It’s a deep track that although strictly a House track contains a lot of Trip-House and Bristol Beat DNA, especially in it’s vocals and it’s dubby use of spacious, buzzing synths.  Even the Acid line just adds to the multi-layered texture of the track. A promising start!

Ronika Vs. Lovers & Gamblers

ronika

Are Lovers & Gamblers still Little Boots’ personal DJ army? Or have they evolved beyond that (not that there is anything wrong with being Little Boots’ personal DJ army, I’d sign up!). Well, whether they are or not they still turn out a mean edit, and this is the second time they’ve reMixed a track called ‘Automatic’ this one, the better one, being the new single from Madonna Of The Midlands™ Ronika.

L&G strip the track down a bit, turning it into a slightly more minimal Piano led House track. Upping the tempo and adding some shuffling percussion add a sense of urgency (for some reason I kept expecting the track to drop the Paid In Full beat?) but keeps the funky vibe of ‘Automatic’. It’s a nice, ‘90’s flavoured, House compliment to the Disco groove of the original.

Mitch Murder’s ‘Best Of The Best’

mitch-murder1

The reigning heavyweight champion of SynthWave, Mitch Murder, is back with another new track. Where the man finds the time, I have no idea.

‘Best Of The Best’ is his latest. What can I say about Mitch Murder that I haven’t said before? The man really is the shit, both in terms of production and musical ability, and this tune is no exception with it’s  big emotional retro synth chords and ‘80’s Pop drums, but that’s now where the gold in this tune is. The real hairs-standing-up-on-the-back-of-your-neck aspect to ‘Best Of The Best’ is the soloing. Mitch let’s rip on this track. Soaring to the stratosphere, with Malmsteen moments, Mr. Murder shreds his synths and sounds like he’s having real fun with it too. We love a good synth solo here and Mitch’s rally are ‘Best Of The Best’

Cosmonauts & Kolombo

Cosmonauts

This month Cosmonauts release their latest single, ‘Stardust’. The single features a reMix from a producer who’s been really stepping up his game recently, Kolombo.

Kolombo’s reMix rests on a analog bass groove that you really can’t not nod your head to, it’s irresistible. Deep and pulsating the rhythm section is both hypnotic and funky and is the prefect playground for Kolombo’s big retro synth chords. An stunning meeting of Nu-Disco and retro synth work, this is the standout of the single which features the likes of Linntronix and The Deadstock 33s.

‘Stardust’ is released 19th March on Cosmonauts own label, Super Trooper.

Shit Hot SoundSystem’s new EP

Shit Hot SoundSystem

Nu-Disco producer Shit Hot SoundSystem has just dropped his new EP, ‘Music & Lights’, it’s four tracks of groove laden electronic goodness!

The EP kicks off with it’s lead track, ‘Gimp Disco’, a track that takes in both the Disco and the Cosmic in Cosmic Disco. Funky down to Earth riffs and hook trade blows with Sci-Fi synths. A hypnotic vibe keeps the masses in check while the track rolls out it’s undulating groove. ‘I Got Love is an old school ‘80’s Pop Moog Funk track that The Time would have been proud of with some lush synth bass and a huge vocal hook. Guaranteed to bring euphoria to the dancefloor. the EP rounds off with ‘Girls’ and ‘2getha’, two top notch Nu-Disco tunes with a summery beach style, ripe for being rocked at LA beach parties.

Binalog Frequency with Medora & Songdreamer

binalog

A while back we wrote about Binalog Frequency’s science fiction breakin’ beats ‘Neon Funk’, now he’s used that track as a starting point for his version of Songdreamer and Medora’s ‘Be On Your Way’.

‘Be On Your Way’ is originally a collaboration between vocalist Songdreamer and hard CORPS’ Clive Pierce’s Medora project that Binalog has worded his Electro magic on. Keeping the Bleep House-esque ghetto bass of ‘Neon Funk’ and lairing it with Songdreamer’s’ vocals (which are slightly reminiscant of one of my favourite voices, Martina Topley-Bird’) makes for an interesting and involving mix. Soulful vocals and rapid fire robo beats? How can that be anything but awesome?
